How to Water the Tricky Dewy Pines/Drosophyllum
Dewy pines are notoriously tricky to water, sometimes wanting to sit in water, other times dying if left in water! Damon explain just how to water in this video. These plants are seasonally available on our website www.californiacarnivores.com
(Sorry for the vertical video! We film these in between a mountain of nursery work and sometimes we have time to film them vertically and horizontally and sometimes we don’t)

We’ve grown Sarracenia flava var. cuprea “Bill Hoyer” for over 30 years and it’s still one of the best cuprea clones! Prized for its exceptionally coppery lids and tall, large pitchers this is one of the most eye catching flava in summer! As if they couldn’t get any better, they hold this copper color well into the summer, long after other cuprea have faded. www.californiacarnivores.com

I'm curious about letting them dry out slightly in a humid summer. I am in New Orleans and have my VFTs in glass trays that will just catch the rain water. It rains basically every day ehre in he summer so they always stay wet. Would I be optimizing them more to drain the rain water out in the summer? Thanks :)

I recently, and rather foolishly, blindly bought two Pinguicula Weser plants, I just fell in love with them! But i noticed transit had made their leaves not very sticky, so I've been watering them with rain water, but mistng them too just to help them get back on track. But now im worried since i forgot to change the water in the spray bottle to rain water. I've only been spraying them a little for a few days. They look really happy, both currently sprouting new leaves, but I'm worried I may have hurt them. Have i killed my pings or am i being dramatic?? Lmao💀💀

Yes. I’ve seen the ads for “blue Venus flytrap seeds.” But I am aware of seed scams for other plants, so I did a little reading, and learned that blue Venus flytraps don’t exist. Don’t buy those, and don’t buy anything from people saying they have blue Venus flytraps, because they are liars.

Leaving water out for 24 hours won’t make it safe for fish, either. That’s very old advice, from back when tap water contained chlorine gas. Most tap water in the U.S. now contains chloramine (chlorine bonded to ammonia), which is much more stable in water. You have to neutralize chloramine with chemicals before the water is safe for fish or other aquatic animals.

Venus flytraps from seed can be tricky they do need a lot of humidity and you don’t want them to dry out. They can take up to a year to germinate from seeds as well!

I was wondering about this :). Ive had my pitchers and flytraps for 2 winters, last year i cut the flowers as i wanted them to promote growth. This year i collected some what i thought were seeds but it didn't make sense to why Sarracenia would seed so early in uk as the seeds need near 2 months in cold conditions (snow) before they would sprout. This year I have a few flowering and some flytraps :)
