Best version of this song.
❤
This is the GREATEST version of Lake Marie, imo.........
I've played this song for many years but never knew why I couldn't quite get it to sound at least similar to John Prine. After seeing him play it live I finally knew why. He plays it with a capo on the 7th fret! It's the only acoustic song I know with the capo that high. I thought Never Going Back Again by Fleetwood Mac had the highest capo placement at the 6th fret. Nope. Prine wins that one! It's the only way to play the same fingerstyle patterns as he does. If you try it anywhere else on the neck you have to use a different fingerstyle pattern that doesn't quite sound right.
I will never forget listening to Suzzy Roche in solo concert at a small venue in the Catskills back in 1998. Fell in love~~~~Arthur Ogawa
Beautiful positive bitch y😢

Beautiful
Good one Jack.
I saw him at this concert. I do not know if it was the same year as this. I saw them after dark he was playing acoustic with a friend miked up.
Love this .. only as beautiful as the gemstones from the earth you collect and try to better oneself in time to become beautiful and to know yourself 🙏💯💪
I saw him back in 98. I was only 19 but I was raised on his music. I learned that he was performing at the theater a few blocks away from the homeless shelter that I was staying at. I had to to see him. 3 years later he left us. I am very grateful that I got to see him. I own 300+ phonograph records, mostly from my childhood.
Huun Huur Tu | Live at Philadelphia folk Festival (Aug Sept 2006). This video is simular to that regular video from channel tastnev. This video has recorded.
Hello !!
they opened for Leon Redbone at the Maple St Bar in New Orleans, uptown in 1977 or '78. Unforgettable. So glad to remember them again. Love to sing along with them!
That’s Mairtin O’Connor on the accordion. Probably only the Bothy’s could boast a line up like it. . .
How clear they both play !!! love it :)
Great singer, and guitarist.
Give the drummer some!
…I love those newly adapted lyrics here and there in the song. I was playing his records to death in the ‘60s; never once got to see him.
The Live Tapes songs are the best ! I remember anticipating the studio versions but was disappointed that they were so over produced. Still great writing but lacking the raw emotion of Live Tape! Still tugs at the ❤
The best singer/songwriter most people don’t know and an absolute treasure to those of us who know the secret sign. ❤ Shawn Colvin ❤️
Can’t believe this has been on CZcams as long as it has and I’ve not stumbled upon it til now. Archie Fisher and the brothers Rogers are my favorite folk singers bar none. Thank you for sharing this beautiful moment.
Love you John. Thank you for raising me up
Maddy is pretty darn good on the spoons!!
❤❤
❤
He was great on old Ernest Tubb stuff
Amazing duel harmonies!
I was lucky enough to see The Queen of the Blues in the early 1990's at a bar in Indianapolis,Indiana.
Happy New Year! This needs to be treasured; it’s the best version.
I always like this song. 2007? That's a while ago.
💔❤❤
I live in New Zealand. Got to see Mavis at Womad It was a hundred percent of spiritual experience for me I knew the lyrics to everyone if her songs I sung my heart out As soon as the concert finished. The woman standing in front of me turn it around and kissed me It was a lovely outdoor venue. Which is a park set up for concerts People come up to me afterwards from the back of the arena Saying was that you we could hear you sing singing over the PA. I said oh I'm sorry. No it's ok you have a beautiful voice. You got to sing with one of your heroes God bless you Mavis 😢❤️♐😢
I'm so Glad I've seen all of those Signs!🙏🌹
RIP Bob Johnson
Sleepy Biden Told the Nation...
Now this is how I remember her :)
That applause makes me so happy. I’ve seen her do this tune live twice before.. it’s the best!
First tune is a strathspey called “Mary Scott”, followed by the infamous “Tullochgorum” strathspey with its infinite variations.
It’s so fun to play along with their old recordings, the only issue is having to tune the fiddle a half-step sharper than standard! As I’m assuming Mr. Gavin did for years, or at least he maybe had a special fiddle(s) reserved for the band. Dervish is another band that records & performs nearly all their stuff a half-step sharp.. but De Danann also tuned a whole step sharp or flat on certain tracks, as well. Thank God for the Amazing Slow Downer app, it’s a blessing. On the album “Tunes” by Sharon Shannon, Frankie Gavin, Mike McGoldrick and Jim Murray, they’re all playing predominantly in De Danann’s 1/2-step sharp tuning. Presumably Sharon has an appropriately pitched box, Mike has the right key of flutes and whistles, and Jim uses capos. So if you’re okay with alternate tunings, and more importantly, if your instrument is okay with that, it’s a wonderful feeling playing sharp! SO bright and vibrant..don’t know what it is! But the tension on the fiddle stresses ME out a bit.
Interesting observation on what they are switching up. I played a rendition of turkey in the straw that a bluegrass player posted on YT for my daughter (an NYY opera performance student) and she said he was playing on the upbeat which I never noticed until a music theory student pointed it out.
Wonderful song by an excellent musician.

I WISHED CLARENCE NEVER PASSED AWAY. I CAN WATCH HIM OVER AND OVER UNTIL I DROP. HE'S A PERFECT PERFORMER. PUTS A LOT OF FEELING INTO HIS MUSIC. LOVE HIM.
