Robert McNamara is responsible for the Vietnam War
zhlédnutí 1,2KPřed rokem
McNamara was the eighth United States Secretary of Defense (1961 to 1968) under Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. More than anyone else, he is responsible for the Vietnam War, always pushing JFK and LBJ for greater US commitment, until 1967 when he suddenly realized he had been incorrect and America would not win the war. M16 Rifle - Iconic Weapons of the Vietnam War
zhlédnutí 2,8KPřed rokem
Music by The Who. The M16 rifle: iconic and controversial. Was it better than the AK-47? Was it better than the M14? The debate continues. The initial M-16 used in Vietnam was prone to jam. A Vietnam veteran told a Time Magazine reporter in 1967, “We left with 72 men in our platoon and came back with 19. Believe it or not, you know what killed most of us? Our own rifle. Practically every one of...

American artillery in Vietnam - compilation of genuine color footage

Music by Black Sabbath. The most common artillery used by the USA and its anti-communist allies were the M101A1 and M102 105mm howitzers. Both were towed (and could be airlifted by helicopter), and fired a 35lb shell to over 12,000 yards (11 km). The anti-communists also commonly used two larger 155mm howitzers: the towed M114A1 and the self-propelled tracked M109. Both fired the same 95lb shel...

Music by Black Sabbath. Remember, the pilots were doing their jobs and risking their lives to help their groundtroops. Napalm is a horrible weapon. War is horrible. The M60 Machine Gun - Iconic Vietnam War Weapons
zhlédnutí 6KPřed rokem
The M-60 machine gun was one of the most iconic weapons from the Vietnam War, right up there with the Huey helicopter and the M16 automatic rifle. The M60 fired a heavier bullet than the M16 and had a greater range. It was nicknamed 'the pig' as it was heavy, loud and ate up ammo. But in a firefight it was priceless as it could lay down covering fire for riflemen maneuvers and penetrate enemy c...

I was too young to go. Had a cousin in the Marines there 68-69. My brother was in Air Force, was there in Danang 69-70. I ended up joining KYARNG in 76. MOS ,67 November. UHIH crew chief/ mechanic. Always watched evening news to keep up with that crappy war. Listened to a lot of vets that were there before Westmoreland took command. From what I gather, he didn't know his ass from a whole in the ground about how to run a successful war. Just saying.
They don’t make helicopters this rugged anymore. I remember my dad told me a story where the only spot he could come down was this bamboo forest, and you couldn’t even hear the engines, all you could hear was these Huey blades thrashing through bamboo sticks. Helicopter took off and worked just fine after that. Thank you to all who served. “We the unwilling, led by the unqualified to kill the unfortunate, die for the ungrateful.”
fortuanatly im canadian so didnt have to go over.but there was many people in canada who thought the whole war shit was wrong.freedom isnt free.kinda wish i could of went and see if was god enough.fucked up?probly
Great footage but you’ve stretched it to fit widescreen. Shame
My grandpa 1st armored in nam pasted last week rip to him
My deep respect for all soldiers, veterans and victims!

No hay que sobreestimar a los veteranos que volaron en un Huey. FAMET, UHEL IV. Unidad de helicópteros UH 1H 1975 en adelante. España.
To all those that served.. I'm so sorry you went to war in Vietnam. I'm also sorry you got no support when you got home... You are all heroes. Every One of you!. David (Perth)
One more bottle of Boons Farm one more day of body counts on CBS news one more day of waiting for my brother Dave to come home from Vietnam. 1969.

Landed in bien hoa airbase in 1968 18 years old . Hopped on Huey to the 129th ahc to a son.bless all the pilots , crew chiefs and mechanics . 8:27
Shit Music !!!
Can anybody tell me what are this things sticking out on both sides of the front in Huey showed between 4:57 and 5:10. Kinda look like 50 cal. but I wonder if they wouldn't be too big too don't disturb the pilots. Is that was some field modification? Never seen anything like that. Edit: I noticed, that many of them, including some medevacs, have it, so I'm assuming that not a guns...probably. Still, don't know what is it.😅
I have 1013 hours flying chinooks in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division in 1970-71 as a 20 year old kid. Couldn't vote or drink at a bar back home.
My dad , Nam Vet USMC 2 tours(2nd tour with a LRRP UNIT) during a patrol with his LRRP UNIT they were hit only him and another guy made it out he said he's alive bc of the danger close air support(gun ships) and arty
this reminds me of the movie Good Morning Vietnam with Robin Williams. Great flick.
M-16, was a P.O.S. No way, shape, or form, should it have been issued to any troops, any where, and I don't care what anyone says, about their M-16, the ones that were issued to us were P.O.S. , RVN '66-'67, 1st Mar Div. Anyone who disagrees with me, can kiss my butt.
Great footage but the music is beyond played out. Of course it's always gonna be either "We Gotta Get Out of This Place" or "Fortunate Son". There's other songs, too. Not every CZcams video of helicopters in Vietnam has to have the same two or three songs over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over for the rest of time.
I was a kid growing up in the sixties and I can still remember My Father turning on the CBS evening news and the war was brought into our living room as we were getting ready to sit down to supper and they showed a downed huey and the dead pilots and crew and all of these Vietnamese children gathering around it.
On 7 January 1967, John Steinbeck was at Pleiku, Vietnam, where he flew aboard a UH-1 Huey helicopter with D Troop, 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry. He wrote the following about the helicopter pilots: “I wish I could tell you about these pilots. They make me sick with envy. They ride their vehicles the way a man controls a fine, well-trained quarter horse. They weave along stream beds, rise like swallows to clear trees, they turn and twist and dip like swifts in the evening. I watch their hands and feet on the controls, the delicacy of the coordination reminds me of the sure and seeming slow hands of (Pablo) Casals on the cello. They are truly musicians’ hands and they play their controls like music and they dance them like ballerinas and they make me jealous because I want so much to do it. Remember your child night dream of perfect flight free and wonderful? It’s like that, and sadly I know I never can. My hands are too old and forgetful to take orders from the command center, which speaks of updrafts and side winds, of drift and shift, or ground fire indicated by a tiny puff or flash, or a hit and all these commands must be obeyed by the musicians hands instantly and automatically. I must take my longing out in admiration and the joy of seeing it. Sorry about that leak of ecstasy, Alicia, but I had to get it out or burst.”
I have a hutch nobody fought that war to music.
I liked deer hunter as a film but not as a vietnam War film if that makes sense lol
1 cuộc chiến vô nghĩa. Các bạn có bao giờ tự hỏi chính bản thân mình vì sao lại tới Việt Nam. Và chiến đấu với lý tưởng gì không?
The last great generation that experienced a real war. A Generation that was born doing WW2 and after it too. Imagine fighting in a war with those that fought in WW2 and the Korean War.
Amazing footage. But ( I am British) did anybody over there really listen to the Rolling Stones?
Thank you for this video. My father was a door gunner and crew chief in Camp Halloway near Pleiku from 1971-1972. He loved his slick. Cant' imagine what was asked of a 19 year old at that time. He passed in April of 2024 and never spoke of his time in Nam. He was a humble but extremely proud Veteran. Served with the HHC 17th CAG in Nam.
The kids these days have. No idea that this was real and how many lives were lost and effected by this war. Schools don't teach history that matters anymore. The new dem party is erasing all of what matters. So sad
I remember as a child in the 1960s and early 1970s every evening the 3 news channels all showed a lot of this footage during the war brings back my younger days
Huey PIC/MTP. Trained by Vietnam era IPs. Its an honor to be hear. As an Army Aviator that graduated in ‘84, there have never been nor will there ever be Army Aviators of the caliber of Vietnam.
4: 57 - "If the guys run away they are VC".
If they don't run they are brave VC.
I had two tours flying Hueys in Vietnam (and some flying in another place against international law), and while it was hours and hours of boredom interspersed with moments of sheer terror, the camaraderie was an incredible comfort. We were all in it together and looking out for each other.
Poor boys
They fought as good as the Viet Cong
The character "Animal Mother" in Full Metal Jacket had "I am become death" written on his helmet, in reference to Oppenheimer. Always thought it sounded cool. Another cool one is: "Don't shoot me, i'm too short!"
Pl show footage how Hueys were destroyed by Viet cong
One of my best friends, Cpl. Rodney C. Rubisoff, was a door gunner on a Huey in Nam with the 101st Airborne, 1969-70. RIP Rube. 🤠✌🏻
Thanks Diggers. Well done, boys.
💯
this war was one of the most horrifying abominations america ever took part in. i wish our rose tinted glasses could see through the 'war is an adventure' lie. im ashamed that my country is proud of what we did to vietnam
That’s true Vietnam was, to quote a book title on the subject, ‘an epic tragedy’ 💔. The vast majority of the troops did their best in impossible circumstances 💔
I imagine in the Vietnam War, young pilots, in their early 20s, crossing the dense forest, flying these steel birds, receiving artillery and still landing in clearings to rescue their war brothers in the middle of the fiery hell. Courage, skill and a little luck why not. These soldiers never got the respect they deserved, to all Vietnam veterans: I SALUTE YOU!
My father was 25th ID Huey Shotgun Rider tdy to Vietnam 64-66. Gators/Crocks

Great quality stock. Either Fc Kodak 16mm, or enhanced and redone. Either way thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching. I think it’s mostly colourised and enhanced, I’ve compiled it from various documentaries, but that’s interesting to hear that some of the Vietnam footage was shot in colour on the Kodak 16mm. I’ll read more about it. Cheers 🙂
I just wanted to give my admiration and respect to all these Huey pilots and door gunners..all the lives that they must have saved, and just the bravery that they displayed often under the most dangerous conditions..you will never be forgotten, thankyou for your outstanding service from Australia!.
Thank you y'all vet's for y'all service amen 🙏💞💖💖💖💖 David
I'm not American but I was a teenager here in the UK when the Vietnam war was going on. A lot of us thought we'd be😅 conscripted. I've always dreamed of having a flight in a Huey. It's my favourite aircraft after the Spitfire. Respect to you who served in Vietnam.
The sexy sound of the Huey replace by some dumb music
You’ve watched too many Hollywood movies. This is real footage. They rarely recorded with sound. Even if they had recorded sound, what do you think it would sound like in a Huey, it would just be loud noise of rotors, engines, M60s etc. The sexy sounds in films and docos are made in post production, they’re certainly not made with 1960s technology sound recorders sitting in an airborne Huey during a war.
@heartsandmindswarhistory what I want to hear is the whirring sound of the Guey, mot music
@@kitcarsonscout7737 so you want fake audio put over real footage? This is real. If you want to watch fake stuff with nice crisp post production helicopter effects then watch a Hollywood movie. I’m not going to put fake audio over real footage. It’s either music or silence. People who prefer silence can press mute.
My brother was in the Australian Regular Army serving along side the American infantry in Vietnam. He would always write and tell me how fantastic the American door gunners were, keeping the enemy at bay while he and his men landed or got back on . He was unfortunately shot and killed in Phuoc Thuy Province April 1971 and passed away just as the men put him on the Huey. He told me what a great bunch of American troops he made friends with talking about the U.S and Australia.
