What is Lampworking? It is the art of creating small glass beads (and other glass elements) by melting rods of colored glass in a flame, then winding that melted glass around a steel rod (mandrel), which creates the bead hole. After the artist is finished making the bead on the mandrel, and the glass hardens back to a solid state, It is placed into a pre-heated kiln to soak for a length of time which strengthens (anneals) the glass. After the annealing process in the kiln, and the glass is cool, it is removed from the steel mandrel and a bead has been created! After some cleaning, the bead is now ready to be used in any jewelry design.

Colorful Lampwork Twistie with Silver Glass Tutorial Recipe (& what changes I would make next time...) My goal with this latticino design was to create a vibrant rainbow striped cane that also contained exposed silver glass. I decided not to encase the silver glass so that I could reduce the glass before encasing and capture all those gorgeous colors in the glass inside a bead... I almost got t...

when I saw the thumbnail i thought this was about eye surgery 😳
Thankfully it's just glass 😅
i mean thats wonderful for sure, particularly teaching people about using picks, but you totally didnt explain the bundle build :( still great and informative dont get me wrong, i dont want you to think im dogging on this, it was great, i just would have loved the first half lol
Getting there! Stay tuned... :)
@@CCGlassArt look forward to it :)
Do you buy a lot of commercial stringer? What torch and source of O2 go you use?
I have a mini cc & oxycon - I buy commercial stringer occasionally, but it can sometimes be a bit too thick, so I'll just make my own as needed. :)
Love this!!! Thank you!!!
You are so welcome! Glad to hear it was helpful :)
I add a swipe of base (white) to the edge so I can get my pattern on
That's a great tip! Thank you! :)
Finally someone that shows how to use the mandrel globs left over from a twist. Thanks so much. Every twisty is a treat. Encasing black is always nice idea. Thanks so much.
I could not agree more! There can be so much extra glass left on the mandrels after making twisties - or even murrini cane. It's a great way to make the most of it! :) Love the idea of trying this cane over black - it should produce some nice colors with the Clio. Maybe adding a bit of silver foil underneath too...! :D
I feel so reassured when I see someone reattach the ends of a pull and go again. I'd love to see you use this cane in some beads.
Yes! There's a decent amount of glass left behind that we can still put to good use. :) I'm excited to test this cane in beads! :D
I am your 800th subscriber ..... love the videos !!!
That's awesome!! Thank you! :)
Wow stunning bead work!!
Thanks so much! :)
Neat! I wish you would have shown the completed cane at the end so we could see how the glass healed. Thanks for sharing this!
Because of the way I popped the bubble and smoothed out the surface it does not disturb the inner layers, so the design was not affected. You can see a close-up photo of this finished cane on the cover of my tutorial: ccglassart.etsy.com/listing/1637331198/tutorial-making-murrini-from-repurposed :)
@@CCGlassArt How wonderful it is! Thank you for directing me to the right space to see it, and sorry for the trouble..
These are so magical!
Thank you so much! :)
loved the vid . sorry for this q but did u need to anneal the cane after ??
Thanks! I don't anneal my canes, but then the chips definitely need to be fully pre-warmed before being introduced to the flame and applied to a bead. I use the top (or sometimes inside for larger chips) of my little curling-iron oven. :)
Turned out beautiful! It reminds me of a little coral in the finished bead.
Thank you so much! The ocean is often my main inspiration for bead designs! :)
Is there another part to this instruction? I'd love to see how you put it together

this is beautiful, thank you for making the video!
Great demo as it was nice to see how you encased them x
Really love your style must give this a go - well done x
Really loved the video but I agree with Noah’s.ark83 would have really like to have seen the whole process right to the end. X
I get it! Unfortunately, my camera died right before recording that step... But I have since added a new video to my channel that walks through my entire cane pulling process, (including detailed narration so you can follow along): czcams.com/video/zPafCcmCebY/video.html
How could you not show the pull!

Great tutorial. Did you use a slightly cooler flame when attaching the murrini chips? Loved the finished bead. They are magical. Remind me of coral under the sea.xB
Thank you! I like to keep the flame full most of the time so it creates a lot of residual heat all the way around the bead, including the mandrel. But, I do use different parts of the flame for different things and control the heat that way. :)
Did that bead crack? You must have glass as thick as the mandrel on either side of it.
It didn't crack, but in this case I wasn't concerned about the thickness of the base anyway since it was only used to demonstrate murrini application for this video. It was not intended to be a usable bead. For usable beads, you are correct, the glass must be even and thicker than the mandrel.
What color is the shard you are using? Thank you.
I’m pretty sure these were mottle shards which are made with thin layers of reactive glass like Raku, opaque turquoise, copper green, etc. then blown.
Thank you so much.
@@CristinaSchnellboegl You’re welcome 😊
Beautiful!
Thank you! I appreciate your comment :)
Just wondering what was the glass you used for silver and what is the striking technique
I believe it was an old stash of either Olympia Rain or thinly pulled Ecko from Double Helix.
hey man! what will you use this cane for?
Hello! I made this cane mainly to demonstrate this technique. But I also ended up using it encased in some round accent beads. Thank you for your question and watching my video! ~Christina
**To view photos of the beautiful colors in this bead that developed after kiln annealing visit my website: **ccglassart.com/2015/01/26/lamp..**. ** Hello! I hope you enjoy this video of my lampworking session :-) In this video I use colorful glass frit (tiny pieces of glass) dragged through pure white glass to create a feathery pattern on a simple big hole bead. There is no speaking or teaching in this video, it is just a demonstration for entertainment purposes only.* (Please excuse some of the background noise as I learn to improve videotaping my lampworking sessions...;-) To learn more about me and my beads, (and to see a photo of the finished bead after kiln annealing), visit my website: www.ccglassart.com.
**To see final images of the murrini after kiln annealing visit my website: **ccglassart.com/2015/02/05/murr..**. ** Hello! In this video I test my own handmade murrini chips on white glass. After making murrini I like to see how they will look and behave - I also use these samples for photographing the murrini for my Etsy listings. There is no speaking or teaching in this video, it is just a demonstration for entertainment purposes only.*
**To view a photo of the final bead after kiln annealing visit my website: **ccglassart.com/2015/02/26/gla..**. ** Blown glass shards can be a creative and fun way to add a lot of detail to your bead designs in one simple step! Often you can just create a single color base bead, wrap it with a shard, and have a beautiful finished piece without too much effort. Of course, it's also fun to add a little flair to shard beads by twisting the glass, adding raised dots or trapped air bubbles, and even embedding sparkly cubic zirconias. :-D In this video I show how I apply my own hand-blown glass shards to a small size round bead. It can be a bit tricky on this sized beads, but by using the heat of the flame carefully you can create gorgeous beads! Please note: There is no speaking or teaching in this video, it is just a demonstration for entertainment purposes only. As such, I will not be offering any advice or information as to the colors, tools or techniques I use. If you learn something new, that's great! But the video is really just for your enjoyment.
Watch me melt glass and play with fire! In this video I work step-by-step to create a hollow-looking murrini cane. I include narration throughout, so you might learn a little something along the way ;-)
Watch me melt glass and play with fire! In this video I create an encased bead using reactive silver glass. I add texture and dimension with raised glass dots on the surface of the bead. There is no narration, as this is meant to be more of a demonstration than instructional.
Watch me make a Purple Glass Latticino Ribbon Cane from start to finish. The final cooled cane is shown at the end of the video. *I apologize for the shaky video. I believe the camera may have been too close to my work area and the waves of heat affected filming. There is no narration, as this is meant to be more of a demonstration than instructional. But if you have any specific question don't hesitate to ask them in the comments below.
