Encased Murrini Glass Art Lampwork Charm Bracelet Bead - Demo
Watch me make an encased murrini glass art lampwork bead from start to finish. :)
One of my MOST favorite styles of beads to make is encased murrini beads! I love to create little worlds under glass with tiny elements that create an intricate design so the person who wears the bead has something interesting to look at from every angle.
In this video I feature murrini chips in shades of aqua, gold and amber that are reminiscent of the ocean and all the treasures you'd find there.

What is Lampworking? It is the art of creating small glass beads (and other glass elements) by melting rods of colored glass in a flame, then winding that melted glass around a steel rod (mandrel), which creates the bead hole. After the artist is finished making the bead on the mandrel, and the glass hardens back to a solid state, It is placed into a pre-heated kiln to soak for a length of time which strengthens (anneals) the glass. After the annealing process in the kiln, and the glass is cool, it is removed from the steel mandrel and a bead has been created! After some cleaning, the bead is now ready to be used in any jewelry design.

Great tutorial. Did you use a slightly cooler flame when attaching the murrini chips? Loved the finished bead. They are magical. Remind me of coral under the sea.xB

Thank you! I like to keep the flame full most of the time so it creates a lot of residual heat all the way around the bead, including the mandrel. But, I do use different parts of the flame for different things and control the heat that way. :)
