This is AWESOME! I got in for the 2024 NYC marathon through a charity called The Book Fairies, so pumped. Thank you for the inspiration.
@@tomfurman7419 congrats, that is awesome! You are going to have a blast.
Just over an hour to finish dang! Thats a tough race! I'm impressed you were able to keep the donuts down
@@laserpace oh believe me, I felt like hot garbage for the rest of the day.
great job.., this race is a challenge. would be a lot easier to eat a dozen donuts over the course of a marathon.., or even a half marathon..
Totally, I think I can do better with the donuts. I tried to one at a time them. I think smashing and stuffing as much in at once is the way to go.
Looking forward to the Krispy Kreme challenge
Ur wack
Hell yea bro put it right in our faces❤
Lmao
Eh, what you going to do? Those are my Saturday shorts, ha.
digging the tunes.., keep it going man

Nice job 👍
Happy to see you’re doing good. I’m still over here training for my first marathon. Your NYC videos were motivation for me since the beginning. 57 days to go!
Thank you. That is awesome. Good luck and let me know how it goes!
Good to see you back. Agree it's hard to train and make content. Just do what make you happy 👌
Good to see you're doing alright! Looking forward to more videos no matter how you end up formatting and scheduling them
Thanks!!!
2 legit 2 quit.
Congratulations!!! Good race and great video. Keep up the good work. NYC Marathon is on my bucket list. Mind if I ask where you got your personalized running shirt from?
Thanks, I made it. Those are iron on letters from the craft store.
@@obierun Thanks! Entering the lotto this month. If that doesn’t work going to try to get into the virtual race with guaranteed entry for 2025 - which is also difficult, from what I’ve read
What is your goal time for the marathon? 50 mile weeks respect!
I am still a little too far out to have anything super set in my mind. I still have unfinished business with something in the 3:45-3:50 range, but I always challenge myself not to put a time limit on what I am capable of.
Wow that much of a weather difference between North and South Carolina? I built in a half marathon into my training plan when I visit family in Florida in February. Living and training Minnesota, I’m dreading running in the heat!
Yeah, it was wild. Nice change of pace from the cold, but I seem to have brought the warmth back with me this week. Florida is on another level for heat and humidity. Good luck with the half!
Good to see the consistency 👌
I🤜🤛
Congrats on the finish.
Thank you!!!
You had me with the title not going to lie. Tricky! Keep at it dude, love the grind
Haha, I mean, South Carolina is a wild place.
great stuff, how bad was that rain ? what watch are you using ? keep up the good work.
Thanks, rain doesn't bother me too much. I have a Garmin 265 that I picked up after my Vivoactive 3 died.
What camera mount are you using for your runs?
It's just a $30ish selfie stick with a GoPro mount from Amazon.
Killing it. I've started listening to David Goggins' book while doing my runs the past week. Pure motivation. Stay hard.
Funny enough, I was just listening to him on a podcast last week. He has for sure figured out what he needs to build motivation. I think the thing I picked up from him is that it is a very individual thing and self reflection is key to figure out what it is for you.
@@obierun 💯!
Great job with the consistency 👌
Thank you 🙌
Great job ObieWanKenRunbie. (Sorry for the bad joke). Didn't realize you live in an area where Ice Hockey is popular until the very end of your video. Most Finns are crazy about Ice Hockey. FIN vs USA in the Worlds is always a highlight.
Thank you! Hockey isn't traditionally popular here, but it is growing. I picked up the habit elsewhere in my youth. USA and Finland played in the semi-finals of the world juniors last week! The tournament was really fun to watch this year.
Fun stuff! Congratulations on a very successful year and all the best for 2024.
"You crazy for this one, Rick!" It seemed like December was a challenge for me too, a lot of chilly but not really cold days when it never really felt great outside, and no big goals that I was chasing. You totally crushed New York and you can't expect to bring that level of commitment to every race, and it's probably tougher when training is one of many things, not the thing. But you're carrying much better fitness into this training cycle and I expect another great race if you keep just showing up every day. And yeah that might apply to a lot of stuff in life. Good to hear that things are looking up.
Thanks, things are moving in the right direction this week. I think the holidays just got to me.
Looks wet! Completed my 5 miler on the snow covered road today. Thinking I might need some waterproof shoes for winter conditions…
I feel you, my socks were soaked. Warm shower after was awesome though.
Way to go! I was hoping for some actual ice this morning TBH. It was never quite cold enough here.
Thank you. Yeah, I feel like it would have been a bit more tolerable as ice or snow. The cold rain was brutal.
Hi
Howdy
How are you doing with training?
Not too bad, getting better everyday.
this is good
Just keep turning up, consistency is the key 👌
🤜
Dude. Thanks for speaking your mind and being real. I’ve gone through the same ups and downs. Like you said, I think it’s part of the overall process. Over the years, there’s dips in your S&P 500 retirement fund, but over the course of 40 years of saving and staying committed, the general trend is upward. I have to remind myself of that with my running sometimes. Also, you gotta throw away those natty lights. No wonder you’re hungover. Also, Matt Stairs owns the Dodgers #2008 #intothenight #JonathanBroxton #GoPhillies
That is a great way to think about it. I am for sure in it for the long haul. And excuse me, I only drink the best... those are Keystone Lights, haha. Those are my after hockey beer. Ahh, the Phillies... that was one of my favorite Dodgers eras with Kemp, Eithier and Manny. At least we can both have love for Chase Utley.
The frustration is real!! I have put on 10lbs ever since i had shoulder surgery over a year ago. I am not as fast a runner as before. Take it day by day. sometimes we need a mental break. We put too much pressure on ourselves as runners!! You are not alone! Keep moving forward!
Thank you! I am trying. This week has been a big improvement.
That looked like a lot of fun.
Dressing up with surprisingly fun!
@@obierun I should run more often in a costume.
I’ve only seen a couple of your videos, my 2 cents. In my opinion you run among a lot of distractions from the endeavor (on the sidewalk at store fronts for example). I too am a road runner - but I run at very early hours while it’s still dark, few if any cars and I run on the crown of the road where it’s even - as opposed to the sides (high visible vest & running lights, safety). Running is solitude and I would never wear anything in my ears for a myriad of reasons including safety, I need to hear my foot strike, I need to hear my breathing….running is constant self-monitoring with all your senses. Running is solitude, it’s ‘ritual’, find some value added benefit to the pursuit. I consume 1 g of protein for every lb of body weight, and drink 3 protein shakes/day to achieve that. The older you get, the more protein you need to repair your body nightly - you have to prepare yourself nutritionally to be successful. And even after all that I can have a bad day running, but the moment passes and tomorrow is another opportunity to have an awesome run. Never too high, never too low, even keel….and it’s always about the journey. There are some great inspirational running books out there - find one. Regroup, repurpose and you'll be fine. Best of luck.
Appreciate your thoughts. I will for sure think about them going forward.

@@cholulamurph769 Sorry to disappoint you, just an OG in the game, been doing this 45+ years....
Happy New Year. You are going through the normal post holiday's weight gain phase, like me. We shouldn't think of this in a negative way. Food is awesome. I go through a weight gain and weight loss cycle every year and it's totally fine. Just by training for our goal marathons and switching to our normal diets, it soon will be only burned energy for our aerobic engines. But I wonder what does a typical american road marathoner's diet look like? As a hobby runner from Finland I don't have a clue.
Happy New Year! Thank you, that is for sure part of it, and I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am back at work and getting back into my routine. I'm not sure I can speak for the typical American diet, but I try to include as many lean meats, fruits and veggies. Though tacos, pizza and wings do happen,. Favorites with my kids... and my wife and I.
@@obierun It would be fun and educational to watch a video about the diet of the normal American runner.
I can work on that. Also, I love your handle. I just love puns.
Just run.. that's all that Life asks of you. Truly Inspirational.
Thank you!
1 year composed in 360 seconds. THANK YOU FOR THIS EPISODE. The inspiration to endure is in this video. No filters.
It's all about the process!
lets goooooo
Taking off some pressure helps me when the slump hits. Just finding ways to keep it fun and mix it up, and remembering why you started. Could be running on some trails, without a watch, just whatever works for you. Could luck with training! 👊
Thank you, I am hoping getting back in the office post holiday will get me back in my routine.
@@obierun routine helps a lot, same boat here!
Feeling disconnected? Not uncommon for weekend warriors post NYCM & Winter's arrival. Once the race is over, no matter the race, it's over, yesterday's news...and you have to move forward. More times than not that country wisdom is true, 'if you keep doing what you're doing you're going to keep getting what you've been getting'. Switching things up can go a long way in getting you through the Winter. Get off those roads you're running on in these videos and hit all trails. Run in darkness & by the stars instead of daylight. How and where you explore change is up to you - but press onward...
Thank you, recently I've been trying to do some cross-training to break things up. Maybe some trail running would be good too.
Oh hell nah. Obie ain’t no weekend warrior
I'm a huge fan of runners exploring all of the options. Road, trails, 5ks, 50+Ks, obstacles, relays, etc. Running is a big fun challenging world of options. After decades of mostly road running 5/10ks, my entire running life changed when I discovered ultras. What's old is new again! And I used to do MMA, incredibly fun and a hell of a workout!
Hi
Hey
Just got sick this week and resting. Worried what it will do to my training (just completed three 30 mile weeks in a row). Nice to see you come out of your sickness ready to rock. Any tips?
Sorry you're not feeling well. My best advice is just to ease back into it. Half the point of running is to be healthy, and as Daniel Tiger says, "Rest is best."
GO GO
Get ready for the next one
Got the next one lined up, now I just need my kids not to get me sick so I can train, haha.
Congratulations on the Race man.
Thanks!!!
i fuck heavy with the rebels
Right on, I like them so far.
I bought 2 pairs of endorphin pro 3. (REI, saucony website)...not a fast runner at all...but really wanted to try the pros. And I bought a pair of asics glide ride 3 and saucony shift 3. I can pass up a bargain😂😂
That's awesome! I've only heard good things about the Pro 3s
Pretty decent haul! I got a pair of saucony ride 15s for $40 that should hopefully last me most of next year
Dang, $40 is a great price!
Nice haul! Great job with those gym workouts too. I skimmed the Black Friday sales and didn't see anything I couldn't live without, but I've loaded up on clearance shoes combined with sales and discount codes all through the year so I'm well stocked. And the whole wardrobe is getting into the act now that we're back to the NC winter weather rollercoaster, 20 degrees warmer or colder from one day to the next. I could have gone for a new running jacket if I'd found a good deal because both of mine are well thrashed at this point but I'll keep looking. Rock on!
I know, hats and gloves one day and singlet the next.
