RESTATING THE IMPORTANCE OF HISTORY AND FREEDOM - PRESIDENT UHURU KENYATTA'S 2021 JAMHURI DAY SPEECH
Kenya's fourth President, Uhuru Kenyatta, gave many speeches during his two-term presidency. One of the most important speeches is the one he gave on Jamhuri (Independence) Day on December 12, 2021. This was Uhuru's last Jamhuri speech as President. He used the speech to re-define freedom and link contemporary challenges and prospects with the struggle for independence. This is a profound speech in which Uhuru puts a strong defence of Mau Mau and other freedom fighters in the liberation of Kenya, emphasizes the importance of history, and restates the vision of Kenyan founding fathers for future generations. He says that Kenya's independence, when it came, arrived in stages: Internal self-government, independence and finally, republic status, all of which happened within a space of 18 months. This speech is also important because it marks the inauguration of Uhuru Gardens, Kenya's greatest monument for freedom. The monument, which was built by the Kenya Defence Forces, is a true work of art with galleries, statutes of heroes, pavilion, boulevards, national trees, and a library. It is a huge contrast to the Mau Mau monument that was built with the sponsorship of the former colonizer. #maumau #uhurukenyatta #uhuru

HOW WE SURVIVED IN THE CONCENTRATION VILLAGES - MARGARET WAITHERA WA NJAGUA
zhlédnutí 564Před 4 hodinami
Margret Waithera, the wife of Mau Mau veteran Njagua Mweru of Murang'a, is a veteran in her own right. She took the oath when she was a young girl and served in the war as a messenger; she used to take food to Mau Mau fighters in the forest, while she lived in the concentration villages with her mother. Life in these villages, which were essentially detention camps, was hard. The villagers were...

He did however organize civil disobedience in Zambia after meeting Martin Luther King Jnr who impressed upon Kaunda the virtues and morality of peaceful, non-viole...

    Jomo Kenyatta did an evil thing of denying mau mau land . The genz are their great grandchildren. That's why they are very bitter. They're a time boom . Myself I am direct child of a mau mau. My father and my grandfather were in mau mau movement. My father used to take us around the land he lost . 4yrs I took my children to the same , narrated to them of what happened etc. These are scars which will ever remain.

    This is a very rich untold history. All the regimes apart from Kibakis' hide it. What I learnt from Bildad Kagias' documentary is that Jomo Kenyatta wasn't a mail may , no wonder that's why he acquired junks of land without even caring for those who fought in the forests . My question is very simple; how could a person from the forest get money to buy land ? That's why generations of may may are still poor even today.

    Where on earth could people who had come from the forest fighting could have raised money to purchase land ? I'm of the opinion that Jomo Kenyatta's regime was largely constituted by the home guards , and their families,who had grabbed that opportunity of a young nation. I'm perplexed by the fact that , the land injustice roams even today .

    There is a lot of difficulty in following the stories at times. First, to say that Harry Thuku introduced the Mau Mau spirit is unlikely. Harry was completely opposed to Mau Mau. I equally find it conflicting to hear Kenyatta being the center. Every written source even by Africans show that Kenyatta was pro-independence but anti Mau Mau

      Which Harry Thuku are you talking about? The one before or after his banishment in Kismayu? Also, please understand that the spirit of Mau Mau is the spirit of freedom. Hope we are asking too much from a self-hater. Equally, contrary to the meagre residues of your primary school history lessons, Kenyatta's relationship with Mau Mau is not as simple as you imagine. Many of the veterans we have interviewed give him credit for inspiring the movement, while others are convinced that he was fully behind it. Some have even said that Kenyatta commissioned the first Mau Mau commanders: Kimathi, Mathenge and Gen. Ruku. You can choose what you want to believe based on your own personal motivations.

      @@maumauchronicles4296 I have religiously followed through the interviews. I am capable of making my own conclusions from the interviews. The Kenyatta Factor in Mau Mau is very controversial. The interview of Bildad Kaggia that was copied on this channel seems to bring too much unsettling in the matter. He is supported by others who were at Kiburi House who highly dismiss his involvement in the Military struggle.

    • @muriithinyawira1850
      @muriithinyawira1850 Před 9 dny

      @@maumauchronicles4296 my history is beyond the Primary school though. I had followed the writings of Wagatta on Senior Chief Waruhiu whose meetings and burial Kenyatta actively participated in. In one meeting, they all condemned the Mau Mau and the guerrilla warfare of the time. And yes, Harry Thuku is the gentleman I am speaking about. He, like Mahatma of India was fully opposed to violent means of agitation. He insisted on the path he had started way earlier on moderate and constitutional means of agitation.
