    Having a zany hairstyle is one thing. But as far as I can tell, Riggins didn't start showcasing the zany side of his personality until after he started listening to the early-morning radio personality, the Greaseman, on DC-101 in 1982. Riggins would eventually become a guest co-host on that show, so that's how I know he was a fan.

    There was a better mix of plays back in those days IMO. You had power runners, like Riggo, finesse dudes like sweetness, and a good mix of talented tight ends making catches along with the receivers. Now it's just all about the pass, which is lame IMO.

  • @firstmusic00

    Very quick for a 6'2". 230 lbs back. Everyone wanted to make him a fullback. But he always wanted to be a tailback!

    • @marleneg8858
      @marleneg8858 Před 9 lety

      firstmusic00 Yes, his strength was obvious but his speed was very deceptive. Also "the diesel" put up better numbers when he was in his thirties, than he did in his twenties. Thank God for Coach Gibbs football wisdom, because if George Allen would have had his way, he would never have let him run. When you take into consideration the wasted years that Allen had Riggins in a football "straight jacket", he would have broken a lot more records than he did.

Also, does that make Jim Brown a better white bruising running back than Riggins...or do I even have to say bruising if I said white? Sorry to bombard you with all of these important questions...but i am just twrying to lern.

  • @hardcorehouse

    @hmasterpiece85 Před 12 lety

    It's not that white men "cant" play running back. I think outside of Peyton Hillis or Mike Alstott their just havent been very many good ones. Or they have changed positions to TE. Imagine Gronkowski as a running back?

    • @robjadick1545
      @robjadick1545 Před 6 lety

      hmasterpiece85 or...they have been stereotyped out of the position by scouts and coaches. I can tell you from experience as a coach that most coaches and talent evaluators subconsciously project excellent white high school backs into other positions at major colleges (mostly linebacker or fullback).

    @Ariamaluum Před 13 lety

    @doomsk8er. Riggins had agility and the ability to run to his left side. Likewise, what you mentioned. Lot of the white fullbacks took hits that he didn't take because he just knew how to avoid that head on collision. Likewise, he knew how to avoid taking shots to his knees that all straight on big guys took. He mentioned that him and Jim Brown were the only guys that could run like a plow.

    The Redskins won by running the football and passing the ball.They did both.With a couple of exeptions,the rest of the league went absolutely pass crazy.All of their plays looked alike and all of the games looked alike.Outside of the Redskins it was the most boring era of football I have ever seen in my life.All those incomplete passes dragging the game on 31/2 hours or longer.

    @kingm56 Well, my wife is black. I am white, and we both HATE how people constantly bring up race; whether it's from people like you, or the news media talking about election results. We are ALL the same color. We just have different shades of that melonen pigment that my wife has been so blessed with. We are ALL related. Some of us are just more closely related than other. We came from Adam and Eve. There is one race; the human race.

    • @douggriggs1499
      @douggriggs1499 Před 5 lety

      Great, great comment. I agree with basically all you said. But I would suggest that mentioning a person's race simply as an identifier is not racist. I am white, but it is a fact that nearly all the greatest running backs in NFL history have been black or minority. Not all, just nearly all. And that identifying the best white runners as a specific category AFAIC is ok.

    @FrsBigeasy 2nd best is only yet another opinion. The 2 top authorities on RBs to me are Jim Brown and Paul Z, neither of which have him 2nd. In truth, Csonka, Bo, Earl and Nagurgski were easily ahead of him.
