Odd Behavior for a White-breasted Nuthatch, by Bruce Wunderlich
zhlédnutí 673Před 2 lety
Video by BWD Production Director Bruce Wunderlich. While photographing nuthatches bringing nesting material to a cavity, I noticed a male bring a significant chunk of something. Zooming in, it appeared to be rust-colored fur from an animal. He carried this material to a fork of a tree, where he pounded it with his powerful little bill. I assumed this would probably become “tenderized” nesting m...

Thanks. I'm a birder from Sri Lanka.
All birds are Tom's wife.
Wow, I've never seen one of these before! New subscriber here ✨
I made this for the 1st time this winter and let me tell you, this is the BEST suet recipe out there!! The ONLY changes I made was: I added 1 cup porch and deck shelled sunflower seeds and 1 cup of unsalted peanuts (I grind both up in our kitchen grinder and just add to the other dry ingredients) I also grind up the oats and even the chick starter in the kitchen grinder also. I have had robins, woodpeckers, blue jays, warblers, blue birds, crows, sparrows, cardinals, chickadees, thrashers, mockingbirds...I mean all the birds love this suet!! I put this out along with dried meal worms, raisins and unsalted peanuts and everything is gone..not a drop left by the end of the day. Thank you so much for providing this wonderful recipe!
Even for an ivory billed woodpecker???
Great info and video. And what a joy to see the wonderful Bill Thompson again. You are missed Bill; RIP.
Nice
The stove pipe works good. I would rethink the rebar post . A good wind or a curious and deer and..... disaster!
Well documented, kudos for the effort. Happy Birdwatching.
Even for an ivory billed woodpecker???
How do I order ?
Are you using a peanut butter that contains no salt or added sugar?
I love u from India❤❤
So nice
Hey dear I love it
If you take a 4 cup container fill it with 2 cups of water, add lard until the water line reaches 4 cups. Easier than scraping lard in a new cup
Got my first pair of binoculars, a bird journal and field guide for Christmas, I am going birding tomorrow to see if I can find anything cool! Awesome video on how to focus the binoculars, thank you. 💖
Thank you mam for nice information about binoculars, Love & respect from India, Bangalore...🙏🙏
Why the flour? That seems like empty calories, but I've seen other recipes calling for flour. Just curious.
It looks like its anting the tree
What location is this !! fascinating ! Thank you

I'm in Texas. Hot. DRY. So dry that there are almost no mosquitoes, flies or fleas. I have water bowls for these beautiful birds. All of the wild livestock are suffering. There are ponds near by that still have water. But not all the birds and little critters can crawl, hop that far. I am putting out old frying pans with water and a couple of rocks. If anyone has suggestions on inexpensive shallow water containers, I will appreciate it!!!
Have you tried adding freeze dried meal worms to the mix for protein? I get them at the feed store (or Walmart) and add them to the birdseed in my feeder. And I buy suet blocks with the worms included.
cool video! nice to see the spectrogram
Sometimes I wonder if I'm truly a birder, or just love all things with wings 🤣, great video
We love birds also, great video! we work in Peru czcams.com/video/UmC9KZOMdQQ/video.html
An ivory Billed? I'll take the ticket
The husband is funny. Love you and the dog too! Thanks for teaching us the right way to feed birds.
How come, 5 cups lard + 5 cups peanut butter???? How come wittle tiny birds can eat lard & peanut butter, with No problemo, & us big humans Can't???!!!! 🤷🤷🤷🤷🙄😄😄😄😄♥️💖
Spotted one!
I once spent a lot of money on a Lindblad tour in Alaska to see puffins nesting and some idiot on the deck below was blathering on and on real loud with some fellow passenger about some bs about his job. Would have been nice to listen to those birds.
How does one clean mold growing on the inside of the big lenses?
very nice and helpful 👍
Beautiful bird 🐦
I visited new Zealand in 05, my dream was to see a brown kiwi in wild, many locals said go to Wellington zoo, I don't like zoos , they have switched the day/night cycle so the kiwis come out in day! Anyway 1 month later on Stewart island bumped into some local hunters, we had a great booze up , they had a huge piece of beef in a coldrum on open fire with onions and carrots for supper ...it was delicious, 1 guy said you really want to see a kiwi in wild? We walked 40mins half cut to this open area,! Then something hit my shin, then another on back of leg! Then again on leg! It was amazing watching this play out as males and females where trying to find or show off to get mate! I couldn't thank my drunk friend enough! Then more pot roast beef on returning, Just remembered on Cebu Philippines, I found a black shamba in alchoy forest because of a drunk taxi driver! , But that's another story 👍👍🙄
Birds!!!!🤘
Are there any places that have free field guide? I need one bad.
Now a sparrow deterrent
How did you know the birds had gout?
Thank you for the recipe. I'm confused about how this prevents gout in the birds. What was causing your bluebirds to get gout? Isn't gout in birds from too much calcium or protein?
I have had one of these for about 5 years and I love it. My bird bath is in the shade almost all day and this wiggler works great. At dark it changes colors from red to green to blue.
I just use a bottle of water, rinse the lens, use a hurricane blower to get the excess water off, then take a quality micro fiber cloth the get water spots off...clean. NEVER use a cloth or brush before blowing off particles or using water to rinse them first...easy way to scratch them up. I have Swarovski EL 10x42...and this is how I clean mine. I almost never use chemicals...don’t need to. But I take care of my optics and try to keep crap off/out of them...simple water, blower bottle, and GOOD, quality micro fiber. I do have a horse hair optics brush...a spec grabber, and optics cleaning solution....but I almost never have to use anything but my preferred 3 tools....water, blower bottle, and micro fiber cloth.
If you melt the lard before you add anything, will know exactly the amount needed as per. the recipe. Is there one suitable for spring/summer and how do you deal with insects coming to these feeders?? Whatever you put in these cakes should be FREE of additives and chemicals and NO BEACON drippings ... READ THE LABLES !!! Thanks so much.
Could you mix it with a heavy duty drill in a 5-gallon bucket?
Wouldn't be able to mix it on a cold day.
Weigh the ingredients! Quick, neat and more accurate.
Wonderful work! Thank you for sharing this with the world!
A small paint mixer on a drill would work great for such a large amount.
I go to Bulk Barn and buy shelled sunflower seeds, flax seed, Nigel seed, quickoats cornmeal as well as lard and peanut butter. Chick starter Ian really good idea as well. Thank you for the great video.
