F/A-18 Tutorial - How to DESIGNATE Ground Targets with RADAR.
The Latest DCS World Update Lets F18 Radar Designate Ground Targets.
We'll Find Out How Using the RADAR, we can both find and designate both buildings, as well as moving targets in the Hornet. We will not use TGP or predesignated waypoints!
The updated F/A-18 Hornet now allows GROUND Targets to be Designated and Tracked using the RADAR, without further intervention!
This Tutorial goes over the controls needed, and shows DCS pilots of all skill levels how to find & engage enemy tanks and structures, together with useful tips, recorded in real time.
This bugfix adds a whole new possibility, especially useful at night or poor visibility. Of course in most conditions, using RADAR would only be 1 in a series of steps, where ultimately the TGP would be the final designator of choice for most situations.
The F/A-18's Air to Ground RADAR was previously able to designate, but it was a broken feature that didn't track targets, and in some instances didn't work correctly, or at all. We fly over Egypt in poor weather hunting targets.
If you find the tutorial / guide useful, ensure to like the video and subscribe for more!

    4k doesn't really make things easier to see as distance. It just means objects at distance have more pixels it won't help if the individual pixels are so small you can't see them. You only really need ~100 ppi which can be achieved with 1080p. If you want to go for 2k or 4k then you really need to go for a bigger screen to benefit from the extra pixels. I'd say to to about 24 inches you can get away with 1080p Then up to around 34 inches you can get away with 1440p Above 34inch (basically TV territory) is where you start to truly benefit from the extra pixels 4k has. The reason you can see better in vr is because the screens are much "larger" as they sit in frint of your eyes. Uaing vr is essentially like watching a 60 inch tv from up close ofcourse you will see small details better

    Avoided watching the other big channels myself on everything about the F4, I've watched the promo movie stuff, but you're right about the hype from those who get the plane months before and for free, it sickens me now to be honest. I did buy the Plane as soon as it came on to Steam and first impressions are it looks fantastic cockpit wise, but it badly needs to be optimised. Overall it's like a midway between a WW2 aircraft and the more 'Modern' Jets in flying style. Think I will shelve it for a few months and hopefully hot fixes. My main fear with DCS overall is their reliance on players having to buy the latest graphics cards, more memory etc to disguise overall optimisation of the sim - A Pay your way out of problems attitude.

    As for landing.. I've done some really hard navy landings and some REALLLLLY HARD, bad USAF landings and haven't popped tires.. so I think you were onto something with having the crosswind helping out with that. AS for the master caution. The reset is just outside of your right knee. And for landing, pilots would raise their seat to assist with seeing over the nose. Small three way switch on the outside of your right hip, directly infront of the ejection handle.

  • @NyteStalker89
    @NyteStalker89 Před měsícem

    vapor and vortices are not "easy" to do.. That is two complex fluid dynamics simulations that needs some work to implement into existing modules. The FM, from what I can tell from reading combat recounting is very accurate for a sim. The Stab AUGs are accurate. The gauges and all other things being simulated don't need to be "super duper smooth" to validate them being simulated. There are a lot of sub processes running on the CPU when the phantom is running that no other modules aside from the tomcat runs. Animation smoothness is a poor marker to pick at to criticize what you define as simulated or not. The "elasticity" is something that gets negated with saturation and curves, and outside of DCS, not a lot of other sims have options to adjust those on a minute level. The "ground" effect you mentioned for choppers isn't applied to all fixed wing. some modules you do feel that cushion as you come in for landing. ^ Paying customer who has done a lot of reading and testing things. The Engine fire thing.. is a long lasting ED bug, not a HB inherent issue. Hard to fix what ED won't BUT its possible that their damage model simulated throwing something from the right engine into the left that cut fuel or something making it spool down.. And I don't think most people are going to know how to fight the phantom and will get into a death spiral, rather than staying fast and using the vertical. The average player is going to try and turn fight and get slow because they think they can power through it when in reality, the jet needs to be fast. Like 550kts fast. Boom and zoom tactics. 1 turn is possible if you really know what you're doing. As for the engine spooling. Its accurate. It was a responsive engine and HB tested, confirmed and recorded this on a flying F-4E in private hands here in the US. I am an admitted HB fanboy, but I think the module will get better over time. They are likely going to do some tuning of EVERYTHING like they did on the Tomcat, and it can hopefully only get better. Jester is laggy AF. Sometimes, jester ui responds instantly. Most of the time, jester ui takes 5-10s to "activate" with my VR headset tracking.

    Great review. I have exactly the same thoughts like you after some hours of flights. The phantom feels very instability. Would be great to hear some words from a real F4 Fighter pilot, how the simulation feels for him. Anyway…this plane makes fun and I like the old analog cockpit of the 70ies. And in VR airs amazing… :)

    • @NyteStalker89
      @NyteStalker89 Před měsícem

      Real fighter pilots view these as games and don't give full, objective feedback. They don't want drama and will say it seems fine. The FM was built and tuned with F-4 pilots and WSO's input. And the Phantom only gets unstable if you take it out of parameters. Pilot recounting of engagements in Vietnam back that up and call it a very stable platform when you fly it how it wants you to fly it. If you're seeing instability, then you need deadzone, curves and saturation on your pitch and roll.

    Ok, ........ so, ...... if you don't know why the stabilator is moving in what direction and why, then may I suggest you learn some basics about airplanes and aerodynamics. Also, I think you're confusing a "stabilator" and "stability augmentation" as the same thing. they are not. The stability augmentation is implemented into the hydraulically boosted flight control system to assist the pilot with maintaining "STABILITY!" The all moving tailplane...AKA "Stabilator" will ALWAYS move with flight control input, regardless if the Stability Augmentation system is in use. However, the "Hydraulically Boosted" flight controls WILL STOP working if you lose Hydraulic pressure in the system. Edit to add Off the top of my head, the stability augmentation system is probably most useful at high altitudes in much thinner/less dense air. Fast swept wing jets have several more maneuvering considerations at high speed high altitude flight. If one goes whipping about their "fast swept wing jet" at high altitude in the Trans Sonic speed range bad/violent things can happen. All airplanes have limitations, the stability augmentation system is a tool to assist the pilot achieve desired flight characteristics. Cheerio!

    The white "stuff" that looks like a shock wave actually isn't one. Due to plowing through the air at very high speeds you'll compress the air around you. This compressed air will expand again, and when it does that it will cool down very rapidly. This then cooler air can't hold as much moisture as it could before. That's when the moisture starts to condensate. Basically the same principle of what happens with hot compressed exhaust gases at high altitudes and very low temperatures. Though the reason for the compression is a different one. The same effect is the reason for vapor trails caused by the wing tips. compressed air, that rapidly expands, cools down and expels moisture in form of vapor. Which will then disappear when the cooler air gets to ambient temperature again and also when the vapor is consumed by the warmer ambient air.

  • @Th1235
    @Th1235 Před měsícem

    Everything in a game or a sim is computed in a more or less turn based manner(the clock rate). Reality = analogue, everything that happens inside a computer program = based on a clock rate. Even(of course) simulated analogue devices, or simulated reality itself. Depending on their importance different parts of a program might even be computed with differing clock speeds, but with a specific relation to each other. Like for example the wear and tear of an aircraft in contrast to the position update of the flight path marker. And when you slow down time enough even the smoothest running simulated hand of a gauge, computed with the highest clock frequency, will appear like it is ticking. Because you are essentially slowing down the base clock rate. Some things might become stuttery sooner than others, because they were computed with a lower frame rate than other parts of the program. But in the end everything will look like a slide show if you slow down time enough.

    • @Thuraash1
      @Thuraash1 Před měsícem

      Seriously. I appreciate the effort in trying to fact-check, but this video has sub-zero credibility on that front. Impressions are fine, but if the poster is saying a gauge is not simulated because it has a tick-rate, he's just dead-wrong, and in fact has it backwards. If it moved smoothly, then you could infer that it's an animation rather than a simulation. If it moves at a tick-rate, then that suggests it's polling something more complex than the game's object data. If you're going to essentially say Heatblur lied about what they're simulating and what they're not, you'd best know what you're talking about. I also have no idea what he means by "elasticity" or what it's supposed to mean. Or what the "dancing on the pedals" test is supposed to say. And it's the farthest thing from surprising that he's still seeing elevators moving with SAS off. You just changed AoA. That changes the forces on the all-moving tail. Changing the forces on the all-moving tail causes it to... move. That movement has aerodynamic effects, that feeds back into the jet, and that causes more AoA changes. This isn't that hard. And... as good as the Sabre at flight model?! The Sabre at least used to have a climb rate that could match the Tomcat.

      His title didn’t mention you or anyone in particular, so it implies nothing other than he paid for the module and is giving an honest review. Seems your comment is more angled to other viewers so that they are aware you paid.

      @@thomaspalmar2481 Anyone is free to come and explain themselves if they feel the need, or perhaps they should clarify in their own review videos. I believe any suspicion is warranted. Many, including myself, assume there is preferential treatment. It would be disingenuous to suggest that most people thought the hype men who received early access all paid for the module. Furthermore, most of these influencers likely recouped the cost of the module and more from the early access videos they released while eager customers waited. There are more and less polite ways to communicate, as evidenced by Tricker’s comment. My reply was to the clown with the Brady Bunch haircut above who specifically referred to the video title. I was pointing out that the title did not, in fact, mention or accuse anyone, so there was no need for him to be so defensive. “I just wanted to make sure he was aware of that”.

    So I watched your review and seemed like you did a pretty fair job, though this is early access s review seems kinda odd to me since everything is going to change. Anyway that aside I wanted to comment on the dials clicking or stepping when you slowed it down. I wanted to say though this is an Analog jet for the most part and they are simulating analog gauges etc., it’s being done in digital code. So maybe the way those dials work is by them stepping like you see when you slow it down. IDK, I am not a code writer but I am an engineer and I would think they’d have to do something like that for the gauges. Either way it doesn’t matter much to me. What I do find very impressive is the amount of failures you can have on this jet. Take a look in the ME and it’s very impressive. From what Sedlo (He has a channel and writes missions that are included in the F4 module) he told me no other jet has this many options for failures at early access. You can also change the wear and tear on each part. So I thought that was pretty impressive. So far I have only flown the F4 a little bit. Dropped some dumb bombs and shot some Mavericks! I found the Mavericks are easier to shoot than they are in the modern jets!! Too funny! Anyway, nice video. Thanks for taking the time to make it and share your opinion. I know it’s a lot of work, so thanks….Let me know what you think about the code thing I mentioned and if you know how it’s done let me know!!

      Thanks for this - since doing the video (literally my first thoughts / time flying the jet) and doing the tutorials, this has been apparent it's very well done, the way to use systems is NOT difficult. Now they do say next to everything "this is not how it was done in real life" so how much they've watered it down, I have no idea. The controls are well thought out too. They cover for every setup (there's often 3 ways to press a button, depending on your own setup - you pick what's best) If I find the time to do a "proper" edited video to follow up, I'll show this. The MB339 also is very well done in this regard, it reminded me of that. Compared to say the Mirage F1, which was... Perhaps not so well thought out. For example using toggle switches, or 3 way switches is REALLY helpful... Press once to arm, press again to disarm. No need to tie up 2 controls. Then the way the weapons are deployed is much easier than I feared, with one of the best in-game tutorials I've experienced in a long time. Sure there's room for more, but what's there was first rate (who remembers the early tutorials from the mig19?) Overall this thing could easily be top dog if it's implemented in cold war. 24x Mk82s!

I was a happy camper to say the least! So it's an awesome module. I couldn't believe how good it looks in VR! WOW. If ya ever want to get together and fly, give me a shout. I'm usually around. I fly laying down though and some days my pain levels are pretty bad but if they're not I'll be more than happy to fly with you. Maybe we could do a front seat back seat flight? Would be interesting! It’s strange and quite annoying that they require flags to be numbers and not (descriptive) strings. With numbers only it’s impossible to remember what they mean, without keeping notes outside the game. Is there any reason for them being numbers? For example, would you ever store a flag number and increment it? Edit: I just checked, and you can give the flags string names. They don’t have to be numbers.

      @DCSDigitalCombatSimulator Před měsícem

      And you can see it records (or streams) in 4K with no issues either. I'm wondering if there's a reason to even get the 5090 when it drops. The only reason I can see it benefiting me, is when I render out a longer video, it taking 3 minutes to do instead of 5. The games where I get less than 60fps, the bottleneck is almost always CPU maxing out a single thread. I have to say the 4090 is the first graphics card I ever had, where I'm sat here 18 months later thinking "I don't need to upgrade". Be interesting to see what they can do, perhaps if they come up with some new technology, that allows developers to stop relying on the CPU so much. Can but dream.

      Everything needs to be given it's unique name, so there's no way of getting the game to "do that same thing for the others" you have to literally name the objects/groups/units (whichever you're using) with their own name, and then add a new line into the triggers that deals with them individually. Then you could add a new line afterwards, that's basically checks in the conditions with something like: FuelTank1 is in TriggerZone DZ And FuelTank2 is in TriggerZone DZ And ..... FuelTank5 is in TriggerZone DZ then in the actions you can activate a flag that's called something like: SetFlag AllFuelInPosition = True

    Same thing with ground targets, but it seems a LOD issue to me. Do this test in VR: drop a GBU-12 from a A10C from 12k feet over a triple A and follow the bomb with CTRL+F6. You will see the HUGE target pixels as soon as you release the bomb, but as it gets closer, at a certain point, those pixels disappear and you don't see the targets "enhanced" anymore until the bomb gets very low in altitude. I don't know if this is something ED made on purpose to overcome VR's relatively low res.
