- Update: Appx 24-48 hours after publishing this video, many of the issues and confusions were resolved, including the erroneous notification from ED informing users "You Already Own This Product!" - Feel Free to Jump to 4th Chapter for an Honest, Unbiased Review featuring much of the London Area.
Additional Clarification: The Channel Map is a Separate product from Normandy (1 & 2). Areas of the Normandy 2.0 will overlap into areas of the channel map, as shown in this video. I mistakenly said that Normandy 2.0 takes the scenery from Channel Map - and incorporated this into its own. This is NOT the case, Normandy 2.0 actually features its own, unique scenery. Apologies for the confusion. The Channel map does serve to extend customers discount (by $5) - which was also previously contested by ED themselves - they did however decide to honour so that, and other information remains correct. Thanks to those subscribers who helped clear this up.

Resolving the Confusion 1st, We Then Fly Around to Enjoy Some of the most Beautiful Towns and City Scenery, in arguably the best map to date!
None of the video footage has been modified to enhance (or degrade) - this is a 1:1 WYSIWYG - maxed out settings. The later portion of this video just includes my rambling thoughts / review as I fly over the PAID for version of London.

Digital Combat Simulator and Ugra Media release this map that allows new things for the first time - the achievement, while impressive in scope, was accompanied by mixed messages at launch, and they depended on where you look.

I had no idea, i thought it's early access. Like they haven't done the roads and so on. Actually got me and couple of buddies off the purchase button, not just getting it for the hype but wait till its finished. To be clear, it would benefit Ugra Media more if the free one/trail one was full pass map! And to be honest YOUR video made it clear it's worth it!

The paid HD version of Normandy 2 is gorgeous and worth every penny. But it's still a bit of a confusing roll out.

Good vid for clearing up the 2.0 paymant .Although I fear this video may confuse people further in regards to the new mormandy 2.0 and the channel map.....To be clear the channel map is a completely different map/product. Period. Now the new normandy 2.0 map does encompass a large portion of the channel map but at a lower quality and missing the major landmarks and airfields on the "channel" map. So if flying on normandy 2.0.... yes.. the area of the channel is there but don't expect to fly over the portion the channel map covers and see all the landmarks and detail channel map offers. They are different maps. There is a clear photo in the ed forums showing the high definition normandy 2.0 map. Buy 1 buy both.....I leave that up to you.

Thank you! I had been spending the last couple months setting up a new channel. It's a commentary / casting on a really old RTS game I used to play (supreme commander forged alliance). As it happens, that game, despite being 15 years old, is still going strong, thanks to a good loyal community. I did a one off cast for the game, decided it was actually a lot of fun to do - so I created the new channel, and since uploaded several casts in the last couple months. I don't understand quite how or why, but I find myself really enjoying watching the higher skilled games, and doing the commentary for the games. While I'm far from perfect, and sometimes miss things, the videos have done well within the RTS niche. It got 14000+ hours viewing in the last 28 days, which ain't too bad for a channel that started from zero the month before. It shows there's still room in CZcams for new channels to come along, and grow to monetised status, should they wish, within a few months. It's not easy though, and people have to like doing the thing they do, and the first few video's will be lucky to get ten views, 1 like or 1 sub. Long babbling answer, but I appreciated your welcome, and I hope that explains it. Anyone at all interested in old RTS game, feel free to take a peek over on CZcams @FAFcast
I got the 2 week trial and will be buying it as I'm in chessington (for those that know) couldn't resist landing a harrier in Hampton Court Palace just for s and giggles. I will have another look later but I was so blown away with as you said the amount of buildings and being able to park a carrier right up the Thames and fly around the old town that I didn't notice if the trial is lower res. There shouldn't have been too much confusion, they explained how the new map was going to work countless times. In the weekly newsletters, on the forum, in social media posts from ED and other content creators.
True. The way Normandy 2.0 works is only confusing to those who could not had been bothered to pay attention to Newsletters and social media post from ED and some CZcams channels in past 2 weeks. I am very pleased with $10 HQ upgrade. Fantastic map in the same league as Syria. Paris is amazingly modeled.

This is what I needed to know. I don't have the earlier versions of these terrains so full price for me.
When you screw up a launch so bad it takes a 30 min video to sort it out.

They've changed the licence checking for the two existing maps now and it does correctly show V2 as available to buy at the relevant discount. Just bought it, plus the 109 and 190. I'll buy the Jeff, for my hangar, if it ever goes on 50% sale! The Normandy 2 map explains the recent enormous update (for everyone). It looks as if purchasing simply enables it. Will give it a try later!

I didn't have Norm. 1944. I had the Channel map, then paid 15 bucks usd to get Norm. 2. For me it was the best deal, as I got the Channel map on sale.
So I didn't have this problum.
I also saw the pre-order for the F-15e was on sale for 1/2 off for a short time.
The fun part about this is i was able to buy the upgraded version for my buddies as a gift (Steam) with the discount of owning both maps on release day, so ten bucks for normandy 2.0 (They previously owned none of the maps and now own Normandy and Normandy 2.0 - We checked in game, they have the high def. version.). Eagle Dynamics never ceases to amaze when it comes to their releases. This likely still works mind you if you navigate from your steam Library -> DCS -> DLC -> Browse -> and there should be the three channel upgrades if you own X map. Feel free to try, i own the upgrade now so i can't gift it anymore, thus i'm unable to test this. Good luck!

I didn't know a Beatle flies DCS! You must be from near Liverpool :) Yes, they should have made the release way more simple to understand. The low-resolution idea though, I think is nice. I wish they would all use this idea for EVERY paid map. That way there would be no separation/barrier online. Current;y, people don't join servers as they don't own the map.
Living in the south east UK I find all the red tones of the roofs and buildings very unrealistic. Need to have more mixed and muted greys. Also trees use only 4 or 5 types then copy and paste. The trees need more density in places. Outskirts of London has mostly long straight streets, the street layouts on this map not quite right. Too many horseshoe layouts.
But not bad overall, certainly more fun than the barren lands of the Falklands! Oh also not sure about central London, seems they just plonked landmarks like Tower of London amongst the generic houses, this is poor as central London has no houses that look like they are from the suburbs!

I've already own Normandy 1944 and Channel map. Is it still possible to buy an upgrade to all high detailed Normandy 2.0? Or I'll must pay full price for regular Normandy 2.0? Steam version.
This is the 2nd video that I've seen on this Texture/Graphics topic for the Normandy Map and I am STILL CONFUSED if not MORE CONFUSED.
I own the Normandy 1944 Map AND the Normandy 2 Map (upgrade price paid).
DO I or Do I NOT have the updated texture maps ? IF NOT ... how do I obtain them so all areas look the same ?

As an older guy from the states who is just now getting into DCS...I had purchased NORMANDY 1944, THE CHANNEL MAP & (WWII ASSET PACK) ...Initially, within 24hours of the release if this new map I began the process to purchase the Normandy 2.0 for $9.99. HOWEVER, I had the same warning or message appear even when I attempted to purchase....I read post and watched videos of people stating to ignore the messages and go ahead and purchase the new map anyway which I did. When I view my "MY ORDERS" THEN view my "Licenses" I became more confused due to Normandy 2.0 appearing THREE times on my ledger. I realize I should have checked or verified my credit card charges before posting this but it appeared as if I had purchased Normandy 2.0 twice.
EDIT: I CHECKED/VERIFIED what My Orders ledger displays now and Normandy 1944, the original does appear itemized and not as Normandy 2.0 as it did before. As I stated prior, Normandy 1944 was not listed at all in My Order section anymore....instead, Normandy 2.0 was listed 3 times.... which appeared as if I had purchased Normandy 2.0 twice and the third itemized Normandy 2.0 was actually the auto-upgraded Normandy 1944 and Channel Map...I'm not sure if this confusion still exists for someone that is purchasing now or if they fixed that bug but it was not unique to me....If that made any sense at all.... I point that out because I wasn't sure whether I had purchased the new map twice, maybe not all and or for record keeping purposes I was confused why Normandy 1944 was no longer appearing within My Order itemized ledger. In addition, I viewed my LICENSES section which also added to the confusion. REGARDLESS, I can report, at least for me personally these anomalies or confusion has been rectified by "everything" appearing as it should in both MY ORDER and LICENSES section.
ps. To add more confusion, initially after blasting past the warnings and purchasing Normandy 2.0 and noticing it being listed 3 times on my MY ORDER ledger....another item I purchased, the rare and limited edition bundle "MAVERICK" did not appear on MY ORDER ledger nor within my LICENSES ledgers... the F-14 and F-18 modules appeared but not the name "MAVERICK"....When I checked my account a few moments ago MAVERICK has reappeared in MY ORDER section & Normandy 2.0 only appears once as a paid module for $9.99....Normandy 1944 and Channel Map also appear again as they should BUT DID NOT within the first 48 hours of the release of the Normandy 2.0 module. Apologize for the Biden-Jean-Pierre-Kamala word salad.... Point being, there was an issue initially but has been corrected far as having the 1944 map defaulting and appearing as Normandy 2.0 on my ledger as it did initially (in addition to appearing as being purchased with aligned dates)... Perhaps ED has streamlined the verbiage to eliminate confusion but I posted on Reddit or maybe was ED Forum that the confusion is the 3rd or 4th release in a row with ED that has caused confusion...be it pricing or processes, etc...Hopefully, the F-4 release will be without any hiccups (or Corsair)....
Tbf though unless you're making movies or taking screenshots you wouldn't really tell the difference zooming past.
I paid the $10 But I cant tell if I have the textures or not. I have the highest setting on a high end PC.
Go down low, and if you see nice clear buildings, you got it. If the textures are very very blurry (see first screenshots in this video from mirage) then it's not. Difference is massive
Great map, but it is a pity Ugra Media haven't paid much attention to the airfields i.e. Kenley has only 11 slots from '43-'45 there was 3 Sqns stationed there, 350 Sqn ( Belgium '44), 421 Sqn RCAF Oct '43- Apr '44 & 308th FS USAF '43-'45.
something about the colour green they used... its very... bright fluoro, kinda ruins the look of the map. Granted the buildings do look amazing.
I am a big combined arms guy, that's the first thing I am going to do is drop a halftrack and tool around from the ground level. I don't even own a WW2 warbird other than the free one. So I am just going to go for the $60 version and be done with it. Then I will start getting some warbird modules.
Delete both old terrains in the module manager, restart, confirm the notification to install normandy 2

TBF, South Atlantic map looks more atrocious in most areas than Normandy 2.0 does in those low res areas. Last time I flew, the glaciers had white grass...
I figured it out driving around Paris looking for the Moulin Rouge, which I have yet to find. Then I spent the $10.
They did say they were working on the grass, lol!
It was the roll out that sucked big time. No communication , it's a simple thing we've done for thousands of years, but we still can't get it right.
They first failed to announce what they were doing, secondly they failed at a naming convention to distinguish what map you actually had, and they didn't even bother to change the icon. DCS is a visual media, help people help themselves, and you will profit! communication, it' so simple, but NO, we can't do that, despite all the hard work, they can't type a few lines to help their own customers. This is a huge embarrassment. It spoiled a great map rollout.

The Channel Map - still - has nothing to do with Normandy 1 nor Normandy 2. Normandy 2 just happens to cover the same area.
Can't believe how many people still say they are the same/linked. ED have said they are separate over and over again.
So how do I try out the Normandy 2 map if I already have the Normandy 1 and Channel Map?
When I tried to try out the normandy 2 It said I already have a license.
@@pogo1140 you can get an impression of the texture quality in the areas of the old map - which is updated to todays standard and you can get an impression of the size and layout of Paris and London, just without the high quality textures.
And last but not least - you can stop being a cheap chad and just spend the ten bucks.
@@pogo1140 Just load the map normandy and you will see the update. If you want all the extra areas buy the unlock too. I just ignored the warning.
Thank you for the extra clarification. Despite the overlapping portions in some areas, the Channel map is NOT the same as, or related to Normandy 1 or 2. I didn't mention this, and will update the description to reflect that point. The channel map, as far as I'm aware, is only related, in that it serves to obtain additional discount (10 Vs 15) - and overlapping areas should be seen as coincidental.
Pretty sick I really wish They'd fix the points system online though I've shot so many planes down in flames only to get no points or score at all

Some of the information in this video is wrong. Specifically, the Normandy 2.0 map does not include high detail in most of the area covered by the Channel map, even if you pay for the upgrade. Furthermore, it does not extend quite as far north as the Channel map.

Why are people getting so hyped up about a map on DCS? If you're after scenery go to MSFS2020...give me the performance instead

As beautiful as this map is we need the Dorniers, Junkers, Hawkers, and Spit I's to really enjoy it! Again ED this is not MSFS, without a period plane set what are we supposed to do with this map.
Looks good but it's a shame these maps are void of any life. Adding birds, cows, sheep and farmers on tractors would really help with the realism. Good review.
