Today I went fishing, which is my favorite thing to do. We were fortunate to catch a few po'opa'a and a few hagi. Both types of fish are delicious and made a wonderful dinner. We Pour Concrete Bridges On Big Island Hawaii

Today's video showcases pouring concrete for a bridge deck in downtown Hilo, East Hawaii. Unfortunately, the first two trucks had wet concrete with a 10" slump, and the inspector had to reject them. However, the third truck had the right consistency. Despite the blazing sun and fast-setting concrete, our professional team managed to hustle and get the job done. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy th...

Oh yeah hagi is one of my favorites! The poopaa are super ono too steamed!
Dang that stuff was think!! You must work for a massive finishing company man
The concrete was an airport taxi are so it needs to be plenty strong though as thick as it is youd think there would be more bare but im not no engineer. The company i work for is about a 12 man crew about half of us are finishers
Looks great, just found your channel! 👍
Heck yeah hope you come back! Thanks for watching have a great night

Great Job! big Bro !
Thank you for the support I appreciate it! The young man Rodney I was working with is an up and comer hes an absolute hammer. Teamwork makes the dream work!
Did you need to remove your old sealer before you reseal or did you just clean it
All I did was pressure wash real good. I had always kept it real clean so I didn't need to do much prep besides pressure wash. If the old sealer is flaky or super haze then I would have used my sprayer to mist xzylene on the areas and knock down the effected areas. But most times a good pressure washing maybe a little 30 sec cleaner does the job. Good luck on your project hope this helps more than happy to help again if needed. Have a great weekend
Killer work. But man that’s rough 2 whole trucks rejected… are they the main concrete suppliers for you guys on that side? Or the biggest? We have issues with some of concrete suppliers in my area but we have a select few we always try to go too. Less wait time between trucks, good drivers And great mud! Can’t get the top dogs all the time though. lol
They are the general contractors concrete plant. They are a road work company that also own a concrete plant. I feel like sometimes they probably just dont care about that end as much as they should. Yamada is the premier concrete distributor around this side Eastside island. West Hawaii concrete fir the west side
@@thatjuanshow4485 ah I see, we have the same thing with a road work plant and concrete side. They mostly do road work so I feel like they don’t care too much about the concrete side either. Keep up the good work. You guys are slaying it in paradise!
That turned out great , Juan! Hey I don’t think anyone can call themselves a concrete man if they have never used duct tape! Keep up the solid work, Brother, you got it under control. Thanks 🤙
Duck tape fixes most things and in this scenario it saved the day lol! Thanks for watching and commenting always appreciated! Have a great weekend
What was the slump on the approved mix design? Clearly its a pump mix and with a high range water they should be approving at 8 +- 1”. I would hav poured it anyway, you would have gotten a “non conformance report”. That concrete would still have passed its breaks at 28 day…
7+/-1. Government job. Couldn't use it.
Major waste of money that's for sure someone wasn't watching that water at the plant I'm assuming. Fortunately for us the general had to eat the bill for the concrete because its there own batch plant that delivered it to us. Im sure my boss would have disputed it otherwise. Regardless it was a big bummer to watch fully loaded trucks drive away
Very cool job! Any fish in that water?
There was lots of fish running up and down that canal. Its called the Wailoa river there was mullet and talapia that i seen . Probably 5 pound talapia passed through was a pretty cool spot to work.
@@thatjuanshow4485 Cool! Tight Lines!

Mucho Mahalos amigo!
That got exspensive in a hurry
Got that right two trucks at about 250 pluss a yard is a big ouch!
Mud was still crap after super stiff rocky and was blowing up
Absolutely beautiful. Question: did you pour footers for this?
Thanky for the great compliment! Answer is no footer whole piece was monolith

All that rain keeps the jungle thick and green but yes almost every day it rains a little on the Hilo side

It’s obvious you like what you do💪 make it look so easy. Gota be tough living in Hawaii. Great job man.
Yah make it look easy sometimes thats the 24 years behind me. I do love what I do especially on pour day! Thanks for watching have a great day
Nice job team! Love the duck tape fix broom. I try to tell them real concrete finishrs do what ever they have to
A little bit of redneck ingenuity always gets you where you need to be. Ive been told the tool dont make the finisher lol
10am mudd, sounds like some1 i know, i cant get it earlier 😂😂😂
If the pour is small late pours aint thay bad but a big pour will kick your ass in the middle of the day
@@thatjuanshow4485lmao when they say 8am it gets kicked back to 2 and u out there til dark😭 Big Up

Mahalo!
What ended up happening to the slab? Did you end up resurfacing it?
we ended getting a finish on it. Thank god it quit raining and we pulled off a decent finish right at dark. I have a full length video showing our day go check it out. It was definitely a miserable day lol

Typical Mexican hack. Only hacks trowel with a round nose. You should stick to domestic abuse and stealing bikes. Fool.
It takes a certain type of breed.. now for us finishers laborers we live for pour days
Got that right blood starts pumping as soon as you see the truck!
@@thatjuanshow4485 amen brotha keep doing your gig.. and bless you my guy thanks for giving us the time out-of your work schedule to show us the insides of what most finishers journeymen, about to journey out apprentices won't show, scared to lace other hard working worthy peoples boots!! Much respect dude 👍🏾
Thank you Juan... my contractor sent me a pic of what he originally used ... and Voila it is the same as what you used... have a great day...wish you much success! Regards from a small town in Ontario Canada!
Thanks for watching and commenting always appreciated!
How long do you wait before you pull forms off and begin cleaning up the damp surface?
There is no real time for concrete the timing is all about how it feels. The concrete tells you when its time to do the the required. But The way to tell Is to use your fingers to press on the concrete and when its hard enough that your impression are only about half inch deep then its time. If i was to put a real time when its hot outside like thay day probably about 1 hour before disassembly and finishing and if its cold like under 50 then your wait time would probably be around 3hrs before removal. Concrete work especially stairs are pretty complicated I have 25 years experience. But important to remember if pouring stairs use good form release for easy form removal if you dont a whole new nightmare will show up. Good luck if you have anymore questions id be happy to help
Yeah you hammAhz. Awesome team. Mean trick with the cut safety cone. Damn I done literally hundreds of bollards 4” and 6”. Tried all kine theorys. But that looks clutch with vibrator. Done deal. 🤯💪🔨 🙌🤙
