Hey David, My name is Michael, Addict. I've been in and out of the rooms for a decade... addicted to cannabis, benzos and eventually meth. I began experiencing much more serious manic episodes when trying to get sober once I got into meth. I was kicked from betty ford twice and have only been able to stay off the hard stuff by convincing myself the last two years that I can get by with Kratom and Cannabis...I even tried to solidify this belief by getting deep into the cannabis industry. Unfortunate or fortunate thing is I have a head full of NA/AA and cant forget the five amazing months I had in sober living, attending meetings everyday and working with a really good sponsor and truly surrendering...I have never felt a high like that. ..but every time I try to get sober now I'm hit with such bad kratoms withdrawals that I'm unable to work but being on the cannabis and kratom my anxiety is horrible I can barely work (as a server) either so I'm kind of in a rock and a hard place. I have a very supportive girlfriend and daughter and two sons from previous relationship but getting sober around them is very challenging too, so many different things to navigate..anyways, I just recently found your podcast this week and the stories are so comforting and I enjoy hearing the NY accents (I grew up in Long Island, NY) anyways if there's anyway we can connect, don't know if you could offer me some advice but I keep trying to get clean every 3 days but everything is different now in my 30's I don't understand like my mind has gotten so so so good at lying to itself and well I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. I am considering going to in-patient but i've been so tuff on myself in the way I talk to myself by trying to white knuckle these last two years that I'm hit with so much shame...it feels like I'm failing by going to rehab, for a 6th time. If there is anyway we could connect or if you have any advice for me that would be appreciated and if not thats fine just wanna let ya know that your show (specifically the episode with Jed) is giving me hope and showed me that geting off daily use of kratom extracts like 7-Hydroxymitragynine is a whole new beast and I'm basically dealing with some moderate to serious opiate withdrawal! Yikes.

OK, half the video interview here... some thoughts: - Dopey, I know this podcast has saved you in a way, watched the Rich Roll interview, so this is good in a big way, but listening to this and how normal everything is to you guys is freaking scary. I'm not sure if this is generally the "normal" in the US, I'm from Mexico City, there's a lot here of course but somehow I don't feel I'm that close to this kind of context of massive drug availability, dealers, and usage... although it most certainly exists! - Have you thought about the possibility of getting out of the narrative and explore new worlds outside the addiction context?... It really shocked me when yo said something like "of course most of the people are on drugs"... got me thinking what are "the worlds" we are choosing to surround ourselves with? Who are our friends? What activities and communities we're engaging with?... Hey, have you tried some endurance exercise? I can guarantee you that will lead you to another kind of addictive positive group of people and worlds and landscapes... same for Rachel. - Don't get me wrong, you are shocking me but you are inspiring me to do something, I'm a father of two girls and they attend a very progressive America School with many tools and programs and opportunities but of course teenagers and kids are the same everywhere, just thinking how can I help at school to prevent things like this to happen. - The other idea here is that what I get from your podcast/service is mostly within the aftermath of things or during the addiction, but how about starting more preventive conversations, like for example more alternatives on not dating the bad influence guy, about not trying weed, etc. cheers, thanks again. I think it's terrifying and terribly sad how the talk about hard, terrible, dangerous drugs is great and funny and normalized. This communication (even if you think was great at the moment "great good old days") is so dangerous and misleading to anyone watching this, specially 10 year olds, teens, etc. I don't think is any funny having "that picture" pinned in your social. So sad... and difficult. Dad here, sorry. It helps though, of course... I guess thank you.

the extracts and the even more potent form hitting the market, 7-hydroxymitragynine (7oh) are a problem for me, burning a hole in my pockets too. The problem is because its so available, 8am - 10pm every day at the smoke shop, whenever I need it.

I used kratom to get off suboxone it’s wild they prescribe it to come off of kratom. Wtfffffffff that’s brutal. Couple of days of pain or a couple MONTHS. lol suboxone is hard af to kick.

Treatment programs never worked for me.. meetings are helpful, western medicine always made everything worse. Psychedelics are the only thing that truly allowed me, in my mind, to bridge that gap where I could REALLY be sober long term and feel happy being alive! Iboga is the best one though by far.

I love the kratom sobriety meetings, and podcasts, dopey is cool too! However, I don’t understand his rhetoric that shots, vivitrol and Suboxone is better than kratom?? In my opinion is much more severe withdrawals are much more difficult to taper and have worst post-acute. next to properly tapering kratom Iboga is the only medication that allows for true freedom. It’s unfortunate when people get sober and then rely on making money from other addicts. The treatment industry in the United States of America has been my biggest challenge in maintaining sobriety. They are liars medication pushers, and it breaks my heart. It’s amazing to me that some people can use that model to have long-term sobriety.

smoked a pack a day for years and went to vaping. Pros: No smoke odor Cons: Just as addictive if not more. If you’re going to quit try champix before doing the genius move I did with vaping. 🙄💯😁

i understand everything but the sexual part it’s never affected me in that way i was too stimulated with jokes and humor . audible hallucinations, trap house loop, realms, visual hallucinations, hearing my friends talk shit about me then then the day after they actually betray me! seeing dead people walking the earth just like i saw on LSD

I'm really disappointed. Kratom saves so many lives and is such a safer alternative to such dangerous drugs. You've had a anti kratom bias for awhile now but lately it feels like you are helping to criminalized a plant that gave so many people their lives back. I've been a fan for years, but this has left a terrible taste in my mouth. Seriously, kratom safety profile is safer than all hard drugs, safer than alcohol, or tobacco. It's like the witch hunt against weed, dissapointing as hell

Nothing took me out quicker than kratom extracts. I could legitimately not stop if my life depended on it. Freaking no joke at all.

Those precipitated withdrawals were 100% from the tianeptine and not the kratom.

I take 2 grams morning and afternoon. Never more never less. No euphoria, no “high”. It makes me feel normal. Used to be addicted to opiates and was s*I dial and depressed. Kratom green maeng da got me off all meds.

Precipitated withdrawal is crazy !! Can be avoided with tiny tiny doses to start people always take way too much accidentally and too soon. My dumbass injected some suboxone 10 hrs after injecting H 😂🤦‍♀️ my ex was all “ don’t … bad idea …. Yup…. Told you”

Anyone think he’s saying Kratom because that’s what he told people what is probably more and kratom was a cover because it sounds better

I think it’s important to note that Kratom can be used correctly and not add to any of the anti Kratom rhetoric. I worry about that going too far…

It definitely has its place. I take 6 gpd after a heavy workout and it seems to do everything it needs to. Been doing it for around 5 years at this dose.

Krqtom saved my life.. I would still be on the street strung out on booze and pills with no wallet, no phone, no family... now I take kratom once a day, pay my bills on time, make time for my family, go to work every day, pay my taxes.... kratom has only done good things for me and I know of many other people that benefit from it... I guess if you have serious addiction issues stay away from it but I would also tell you to stay away from the nicotine pen you got... very addictive.. I would make sure I didn't consume any coffee either and nothing that feels good... cheers, everyone..
