    Nice review. How often does it need a service? Id be doing 2500 miles a year commuting, do you think it would last at least 3 years doing that? Many thanks.

    • @vaughanbbrean71
      @vaughanbbrean71 Před 3 dny

      Yes the Pulse would handle that ok, is this to a place of work? what is the one way distance ? The Pulse has a removeable battery so you could have a battery and charger either end or recharge a single battery . Servicing is very simple, almost maintenance free really, there is a single chainring with 8 speeds but the chain and freewheel last for thousands of miles because unlike a mid drive, much of the power is applied directly to the wheel via the hub motor, as opposed to a mid drive all the power is transmitted via the chain often with an 11 speed cassette which run at more extreme angles so last nowhere near as long. Brake pads can be changed in just a few minuites. As a commuter the Pulse would be great because parts are straightford and most are generic, the BAFANG motor is basically the same as my brothers 10 year old Pulse and that has only required one bearing thet cost £2.63, other than that it has never given any problems. Just a thought is that if you were commuting like this you would need to get there with minimum effort (I am guessing) so you would likely prefer to use the higher assistance levels which obviously uses more battery power, so a battery at each end of your commute might make sense, the VOLT soaks up the bumps so would be a better commuter than my Specialized Creo road E-bike which is not as comfortable or practical, mudguards, lights and front suspension along with the carrier would all be useful

      Really good, I have a mid drive Specialized Creo too and my buddy borrowed the VOLT, we went out on a 35 mile ride and I couldnt actually keep up with him on the big hills, people worry about 250W but it will get you up pretty much any hill, big hills do drain the battery though like on any E-bike, the big difference with the hub drive VOLT compared to the mid-drive Creo is that the VOLT will do almost all the work for you and so if you chose to put in hardly any effort, it will still power up the hills, great for shopping, general running around, carrying luggage, it doesnt really have any drawbacks other than it is heavy like any hub drive bike with a big removeable battery, but its well built and durable, that walk assist throttle is great

I'm sure it's easy but I've never done it before and I don't want to do what always ends up happening when I'm supposed to drill just a single perfectly positioned hole... (at least three oopsie holes) I'd love to hear whether you've run into issues with the GRX derailleur. It's not always possible to soft-pedal with motor assist and so the thing has been subjected to quite a few full power shifts. At one point the hanger or dogbone or cage or something became warped and the bike would really struggle to shift into a slower/larger gear, causing the chain to jump off the front chainring and get wedged between the frame and the 'ring, scratching the crap out of the frame. I'm glad I don't have the carbon frame!

    What a great effort you went to - to save me hours of my own! - Thanks so much. I've just taken delivery of the Creo 2 - and Specialized themselves are woefully slow at updating the info we need as customers.... I had no idea about the computer it shipped with, and, when the bike arrived at the shop, it transpired that, for 'reasons' there are now NO kickstand lugs for this bike - so lying the bike down... or up against the wall, are really the only two options when out and about. Pannier racks have their own story too since there are no lugs on the seat post and a couple of other surprises too.... good bike though!

    • @vaughanbbrean71
      @vaughanbbrean71 Před 4 měsíci

      Glad that was helpful, its a neat trick manufacturers have pulled by convincing people that things like rear carriers, mudguards and kickstands arent cool. They cost money and time to include and fit and they have people thinking they arent needed and save weight and they can charge the same without fitting them, kind of like car manufacturers have done the same thing with spare wheels, but its an electric bike with a motor!!!!. You will have to try and locate a third party chainstay kickstand if you want one, they are very very very useful and I wouldnt like to be without one. The non-enthusiast focused E-bikes have gone the other way, so my VOLT Pulse includes in the price alloy full length mudguards, an ABUS rear wheel lock and a chain, a swipe card to disable the bike for anti-theft, front and rear lights, a rear carrier and a sturdy kick stand all included, but thats because they are trying to tempt previous non-cyclists who want these things to go shopping etc. But nonetheless, the CREO is a very impressive bike, the range with the extender is amazing, but I still find the VOLT Pulse more useful for general chores and running around, I can also lend it to friends and they feel right at home straight away, doesnt have the range of the CREO though

    • @vaughanbbrean71

      @@HunzaFolk Massively depends on your rider input, these rear drive bikes will allow you to input virtually no effort and so long as the pedals are rotating the motor will do all the work, if you use it like that then obviously the mileage will be far less, maybe only about 25 miles, but if you pedal putting in about half the work, probably about 60 miles is realistic, If you ride off road that hammers the battery also but realistically, if you put in some effort (about 50% of what a non assisted bike would need) and on hills use full power, 50-60 miles, put it this way, I have never had the battery go flat on me, a 50 mile ride is more than most people will ever do in a day, VOLT did offer a higher capacity battery but its not available anymore because it was heavier and more expensive and most people just didnt need it, you can of course carry a spare battery but I cant imagine I would ever need to use it

      Yes I got mixed up!!!!! I was on the Creo and my Pal was on the VOLT and it was the VOLT that climbed better, the VOLT rear drive is much more powerful but obviously if you take full advantage of that power your battery life will be impacted, the CREO motor is less powerful presumably because it is aimed at seasoned cyclists that go furthur and use less assistance

      @@vaughanbbrean71Thank you very much - I was a bit puzzled.

  • @vincekerrigan8300
    @vincekerrigan8300 Před 5 měsíci

    Information about the range is ambiguous - it should be qualified. Was it 70 miles with the motor on all the time, or was it switched off, or being ridden over the cut off limit, for considerable periods of time? Just the bald statement means nothing. I added a lightweight assist kit to my road bike for help on the hills. This has a smaller battery, the limit of which, on full power, is 40km. If I do a ride of, say, 50km - quite long for me at 92 - and the motor is off for half the ride, and I come back a saying that I did 50km and had about 30% of battery left, that would be misleading. It would give the impression - to the uninformed - that the battery is capable of abouf 75km in total. A valid point, or not?

    • @vaughanbbrean71
      @vaughanbbrean71 Před 5 měsíci

      Totally agree, The Creo App tells me how much power average I have input myself, I average between 150 and 175W of my own power hence the battery lasts for many many miles as I am doing well over half the work, My other E-bike is not aimed at enthusiasts and most non-cyclist riders only get around 30-40 miles from a charge because their input is much lower, so I agree, it is as you put it ambiguous and actually pretty meaningless,. The Creo doesnt actually go any furthur on a charge than my VOLT Pulse, its all down to the rider, I can make the VOLT Pulse battery last just as long

    don't you as a rider already apply power through pedals, chain ring to chain and rear cluster. Wondering cause you said it was a downfall on specilized

    • @vaughanbbrean71
      @vaughanbbrean71 Před 6 měsíci

      Its not really a downfall, but the difference is that on the Specialized (or any mid drive) ALL the power, ie both your power and the power from the motor is transferred to the back wheel via the chain as the motor is connectred to the front chainring. On a rear hub drive bike like the VOLT the rear wheel is driven directly by the motor in the rear hub, you have to rotate the pedals to activate the motor but you can have full power from the motor while only putting in a tiny effort with the pedals. Advantage of mid drive for seasoned cyclists is it does feel very natural if thats important to you, but chain and rear cassette wear is much higher as ALL the power is transmitted to the back wheel using the chain. For the rest of us, the rear drive is simpler and less expensive, the chain and cassettes last pretty much forever, on the VOLT you also get a walk assist throttle which you dont get on a mid drive (I did a little vid on the walk assist throttle if you want to take a look), the Specialized may suite an experienced cyclist better but doesnt have any of the security features of the VOLT, mid drive bikes tend to be more expensive, but the rear drive bikes are also great, the rear drive on the VOLT has more torque or power so climbs hills easier with less rider input, the mid drive Specialized feels just like a normal bike in every way as thats how it has been designed so requires to be ridden like a normal bike, you have to pedal harder to make it give you more power, on the VOLT, you just need to move the pedals and the rear wheel is driven, I recommend you try both types, VOLT for example do the VOLT PULSE (rear drive) and the mid drive version called a VOLT INFINITY, try both and see which you prefer

    Fantastic video, Vaughans! The throttle/walk assist feature is hands down one of our favorites too! When dismounted, it's excellent for pushing the bike, especially uphill, acting as a walk assist. Once you're on the bike, it transforms into a throttle. Cruising at 3mph legally without pedaling is a sweet spot, but here's the kicker - if you press the throttle and start pedaling, it's like a shortcut to maximum power. Picture this: you're at a traffic light, and when it turns green, a quick press on the throttle combined with pedal power lets you zoom ahead, leaving all the traffic behind. It's the ultimate traffic-beating move! Love how it just takes you away effortlessly. 🚴‍♂💨
