Odes to a Temple is a docu-series that explores the rich heritage of India's deep South, a land of emerald rice fields and palm forests, dotted every few miles with magnificent temple towers. These temples, crafted by visionary rulers driven by faith, stand as some of the world's most remarkable stone treasures. Throughout history, revered seers and composers have dedicated songs and poems to the deities within, serving as a comprehensive encyclopedia of culture and spirituality. From ancient Saivite and Vaishnavite saints to the Carnatic Trinity of the 18th century, to modern-day composers, temple-inspired music remains central to Carnatic music. Each episode takes you through a temple, with a selection of songs rendered by ace Carnatic vocalist Ramakrishnan Murthy within the temple premises. The narration traces a Carnatic trail through the temple and highlights the harmonious interlacing of temple iconography, history, literature and music.
We begin with the temples of Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu and heartland of Carnatic music today. Episode 3 features Marundishwara temple, located at Tiruvanmiyur, in the south of Chennai.

The perception of aesthetics, beauty, and art can vary significantly from person to person and across different cultures. While there are certain universal principles of aesthetics that many people may find appealing, such as symmetry, balance, and harmony, individual preferences and cultural influences play a significant role in shaping one's perception of beauty and art. Cultural background, personal experiences, upbringing, and exposure to different forms of art can all influence how individuals perceive and appreciate aesthetics. What one person finds beautiful or artistically pleasing, another person may not necessarily share the same opinion. Furthermore, different art forms, styles, and genres can evoke varying responses from individuals based on their personal tastes and preferences. Some people may prefer classical art, while others may be drawn to contemporary or abstract art. Similarly, some may find beauty in minimalist design, while others may appreciate intricate and detailed artwork. In conclusion, while there may be some universal aspects of aesthetics that many people find appealing, the perception of beauty and art is ultimately subjective and can vary widely among individuals and cultures.
Her calm is reflective of her immense knowledge. Thanks, MOPA, for sharing this beautiful conversation. I loved the format, so calming and blissful❤
I laughed out loud when she talked about super singer contestants performance HAHAHA
Please do one with seetha narayanan maami
She's a poem 🌼
Just a note -- MMI used to sing rAgamAlika for kritis like sukhi Evvaro or intasaukhya in case he was NOT singing a pallavi in the concert. TKR however, has sung a short and sweet RTP in Todi after the garuDadhwani kriti
Such a beautiful production. To see the beloved Kapali temple captured so artfully, with some timeless music and succinct, insightful narration. Much bliss ❤❤
This is a beautiful look into the lives of two outstanding artists, outstanding people! I knew them from the time they were the stars on the Kalakshetra stage, moved on with them when they set up BHARATA KALANJALI in Shastrinagar, proudly becoming their first "Arangetrami"! Their families became mine, especially after I married Kunhiraman. What fun we had in those early years! Joining with so many great artists in performances. Those early years were truly the struggle they describe here. I love how photos and short film clips have been introduced, overlaying with the candid storytelling of their journey. They have had a blessed artistic life, survived surprising challenges, moved gracefully into old age. What a lesson for the rest of us! I look forward to watching more of these interviews. I now see to the side of my screen that my friend Leela Samson has been interviewed. Wishing the producers the very best in producing these films with artistry and honesty. Good job!
Please, please, does anyone have a video recording of her unforgettable performance at the Music Academy in December 1973, where she danced while singing neraval and Viswa performed neraval on the flute as well as vocal? It's something out of this world.
This series is just amazing!!!
Super, please post about Kurugaleeswarar temple of Koyambedu too
Well made and enunciated. Kudos!
Priceless view of a landmark phase in. Carnatic music. So nice to see such a progression to the higher peaks with such grace and lack of negativity.kudos
Simply superb!! Excellent presentation and rendition of kritis..looking forward to more such!!!!
Transported to a divine space 🙏
Karpagavallinin porpadangal is another iconic song on the Goddess of the shrine popular among Her devotees
the singing and art work were a beautiful touch to the film
Ram Ram Wonderful. No words to describe. Sri.Ramakrishna Murthy and Ms.Saviths have given an outstanding presentation. Very informative and arresting our attention. They must cover more temples. God bless.
Very well produced documentary on Smt Rama Ravi . The content was as rich as the lady’s innate modesty and simplicity . Kudos to MOPA
Lovely presentation depicting the temple histoey!!
Thank you for the immensely immersive experience... at once transformed and transported in time by the presentation and rendering into a different age and time ...
Excellent project. Please keep it going. I am Thiruvanmiyur for the past three years. All these points were great education to me. Regards
Good documentary of Marundeeswarar temple of Tiruvanmiyur.Nice photography and painting.
More of music, please tell about the temple without music.
Short, but Sweet & Beautiful Odes to Marundeeshwarar Kovil.🎉🙏 Excellent, top class singing by Ramakrishna Murthy full of devotion. Overall a Superb audio visual treat 👍👌
Excellent episode. Thank you.
Great, Ohm Sivaya Namaka.
Ahobagyam! Sri.RKM is also ( as we are) truly blessed to have darshan of our magnificent temples & glorify with his scintillating hymns
Another fantastic episode steeped in history elevated by the lovely Carnatic vocals of RKM. ❤
Another brilliant documentary ❤
Wowwww❤
🙏
Pranams to MOPA. Humbly request you to continue such Bhakthi drenched volumes about several temples in this land. Ramakrishnan Murthy Ji, we are truly blessed!! Mere words cannot explain my ecstasy!!
Yes the original sanctum sanctoriun is only of சிங்கார வேலன், அம்மை அப்பன் joined their Son after Portuguese occupation of Myilai. Did St. Thomas or Doubting Thomas ever visited Madras , if not according to many scholars, who is in the crept ? Portuguese Sailor by name Tome?
excellent presentation
Simple superb conversation. I like TMK for what he is. A simply intelligent, exemplary vocalist of the era. No where can someone come to him. What are controversies before this legendary carnatic icon just ashes isn't it?
The interview is one beautiful song!
Music is to enjoy, give peace some times whether you get the meaning or not. Majority of the listeners of this kind. Then why this lecture class!!! If Music is be a food of love , give me excess of it that surfeating appetite may die" Shakespeare's twelth Night play initial opening. So let us listen and enjoy those days genious creation, they lived their life in it and not for any benefits. Most of them their emotions and attachment to the god that they loved, seen in music. We don't need class room boring lectures in it in public
I was her student at Shri Ram Bhartiya Kala Kendra and Justin was also learning at that time both are very simple and down to earth now I am teaching my daughter what I have learnt from her her grace and perfection I am trying to teach her she is a great guru and great human being. my panama in her feet's

What TM Krishna said was 100% correct
Very very nice to listen to. I enjoyed this video very much.thank you for sharing🇨🇦
Like the first episode, top notch production values, interesting history, lovely song selection, great audio quality and of course RKM’s brilliant singing. Look forward to more! 👏🏼
Thank you for the lovely presentation.
Brilliant documentary ❤
Wowww.brilliant comparison between Thiruvotriyur and thiruvarur
Jai TMK sir. I am a surgeon and have very little knowledge of music, but when ever I see you sing or speak, I learn so much about music, including the strong thoughts band convictions you have and my English vocabulary also has improved.
Amazing!! Thank you so much for this! Looking forward to more.
Wow. All the five episodes were great, especially by shiv Kumar on the mastero.
Can’t we have Tamil narration? When you try to appeal to everybody in the South by speaking in English you lose the very essence of what makes temples and the culture worthwhile, the soul. What people from Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra want from Karnatic music is soul not garden variety bbc copy and narration. You don’t do justice to the amazing singing of Ramakrishnan Murthy. Please get Madhusudhan Kalaiselvan to do the narration
