I am from New York, and now am in Northern New Jersey, so I don't get there nearly as often as I'd like to. I've watched this video probably three times now. Wonderful Video ! Had great experiences (OK some not so great - Soaking weekends) doing my 46. Started in 1985; finished in 2010 (after driving up from NC). Never got certified. That's how I chose my CZcams moniker, Anorthosite: It's the actual igneous rock type (not granite) that forms most of the Upper/Lower ranges. It's also what forms most of the Lunar crust. When you stand on top of Marcy, know that the rock under your feet formed 18 MILES beneath the surface, as the underpinnings of a Himalayan-scale range that formed more than a billion years ago. Remnants of the same, and related rock types, also outcrop more extensively to the north, in the Laurentian Mountains of eastern Canada. In surface outcrop, the Adirondacks connect to them via the Thousand Islands region. Since I was last there, there were numerous "fresh" rock slides in the High Peaks, from the hurricane that hit the region and New England several years ago.

Next Day, I (RE)did Haystack (which I/we had previously done in Cold/Rain/Wind/Near-zero visibility - still not sure WHY ! XD). 2010 Haystack summit: Clear Fall Weather - but the Foliage was mostly Gone. Roll of the Dice. THEN, Just as I returned to my base-lean-to (Near JBL), the Skies Opened Up, overnight and into next day (slept well, tho wondering where I might find my Garcia Bear Canister, next morn). Packed out in heavy rain...then drove to Noonmark Diner, to Feast/Celebrate. Perfect !

Great, great video. View from Haystack (3rd highest) is rated best view in the high peaks. You should do Algonquin, 2nd highest, easy day hike, incredible view of Marcy, Range, Colden, lakes below and all points north. 2nd rated view. Both are spectacular. In 1967 I took about 6 boys, started at Garden parking lot, and did Gothics, Saddleback, Basin and Haystack in one day. Came down Phelps trail. 20 miles. Weather was clear as a bell. 70 degrees late August. One of the best days of my life.

Thanks for the fantastic video, it really captures the experience of the Devil's Path! >>I grew up in Hunter, and a few years ago undertook the apocryphal 'local challenge' to hike the entire 30-mile, 6-peak trail from Platte Clove to Mink Hollow in a single day, with my dad -- definitely an experience to remember! We began by ascending Indian Head for the sunrise and ended with groping our way down the northwest flank of Westkill after nightfall, with flashlights (the night comes on dangerously quickly in the mountains and we got our pacing slightly wrong)... pretty exhausting! Let's just say it makes a much nicer hike split into two or three legs, so you can take in the stunning scenery and not have to cram down sandwiches on the go! ⛰🏕⛰

  • @strawberriebabieex3

congratulations for surviving the White Mountains. I have done parts of it but no where as close to what you guys did. adding the camping along the way made it even more challenging. and the video captures the exhilaration as well as the challenges along the way. as you said, it is "Epic" and it was.

  • @strawberriebabieex3

This brings back many fond memories of previous Adirondack hikes including Mt Marcy. great job in recording the feeling and special nature of the place and the event. you made it especially challenging for the extra destinations you added along the way. that goes beyond what I had done but wish I did. so glad you were able to experience the awesome challenge and satisfaction of seeing parts of the Adirondacks only a few will ever see.
