Repair POD X3 Live footswitches A replacement switch can be ordered from SparkFun at: www.sparkfun.com/products/97 If you do a Google search for "micro tactile momentary switch" you will find other places to order them.
Gonna watch this later to fix a squeaky helix floor pedal I bought second hand from someone.
Thank you! I use the expression pedal all the time for volume swells. This video was a lifesaver.
You're welcome! Glad it was useful....
Outstanding video. Even though I have the full Helix Floor, your video was so well done that you gave me the confidence to take mine apart to lubricate the pedal. It squeaks. Bravo!!
Awesome! Glad it helped! 👍🙂
Thanks. Gonna do this later today for the same reason. Happen to already have my grease even!
Its pretty easy to slide out the bolt without having everything fall apart just have to be careful. I found some automotive silicone paste since its all I have. Squeak is gone but its not as smooth, I'm going to buy some of the lithium grease and redo it.
Thanks for the info. I like to separate everything and clean all the parts, but hey! If it works, it works.
Very good. Thanks!
I think mine was the ribbon pin might get removed inside since all of the footswitches stopped working, no lights and not functioning, but above buttons, knobs and display is working
I didn't know it was legal to post videos at 240p. But anyways, thanks for the info!!
Sorry if you had trouble viewing. I didn't realize that it was that low. I hope the video quality police don't see your comment...😂😂🎸
@@chuckbrand298 Haha! Well, it was a very useful video nonetheless! I ended up loosening the pedal and applying some WD40 because I didn't have any grease.
Chuck, thank you so much for this video! You’re a real Helix saver.
You're so very welcome! I'm so glad this has helped you! Keep on keepin' on! 🙂👍🎸🎶
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I greased my pedal tonight and it’s a night and day difference! Much appreciated
You're welcome! Glad it helped! 🙂
Can you use wd40 too?
I would NOT use WD40. Use a light grease. White Lithium grease is good. You can find it at any auto parts store and probably at Walmart. It's not very expensive. WD40 could possibly run into the electronics and other parts.
Thanks Chuck ! I followed your steps and it worked. Actually, Line 6 customer support referred me to your video !! My LT is a year old (squeaking after 6 months). My construction was a bit different than yours: additional separate bracket holding the inside pedal assembly; no metal washers next to the plastic spacer (and a lot of black paint rubbing on the spacer), and I had a small but significant gouge on the far segment of the bolt where it would go through the spacer-washer assembly. So it seems Line 6 is making incremental changes to this assembly over the years. Anyway - thanks so much for your help !
You're absolutely welcome! Thanks for the info on the updated pedals. Good to know. So glad that my video helped.
Thank you very much for sharing your experience and precautions, Mr. Brand. I'll try this.
Great vid. Thanks!
Thanks Shannon. Hope it was helpful.
Thanks man! I finally found the courage to open up my beloved Helix LT. Did exactly what you said, could not be happier! Subscribed!
You're welcome! Glad it worked. I've had my Helix for 4 years now. I've had to do this about once each year.
so glad you made this video. Made fixing it a breeze
Glad to hear that it helped. 👍
I let this go on "squeaking" too long to the point where the pedal actually broke. Here is my video on how to repair the broken pedal. Hope people solve the problem with your video so they don't need mine!! czcams.com/video/jRTOMywWI4s/video.html&lc=UgyGF1P_ubLTZMylE194AaABAg
Thanks for letting us know!
Bravo!
Thanks for taking the time to explain everything so clearly. All sorted with my pedal now. 😀
No problem. Glad it helped. 👍🎸🎶🙂
Great job buddy! Saved my life
Awesome! Glad this helped!
Hey Chuck, My Tweek And Vol LED"s Are Out. I See They Are Soldered In The Board. Can I replace Them With New LED"s? Someone Said LED"s Dont Burn Out. Is That True? If So , I May Have Another Issue. Let Me Know What You Think. Thanks.
I will say that it is rare for an LED to go bad, but they do. If you have a multimeter you can check the LEDs. LEDs are like diodes. They only allow current to pass in one direction. If you place the multimeter leads across the LED one way then the other you should only get a reading on the meter in one direction. If you find that you don't get a reading in either direction, the LED is probably bad. Also, many times, I have had meters that were strong enough to actually light the LED. If you do replace them make sure you put them in in the right direction. If you put them in wrong, they won't work. I would guess that if everything is working fine, except the LEDs, then it is probably just the LEDs. Good luck.
Hi Chuck! what size allen key do you use to loosen the pedal?
I believe it is a 3/16". Just checked... Yes... 3/16".
@@chuckbrand298 thanks so much!!
thanks
You're welcome.
It's possible to adapt DPDT momentary' switches?
Probably not. I don't think there would be enough room.
Still useful in 2019. Picked up a used HD500 at Guitar Center over the weekend. They told me it had a couple of known issues, one of which was a couple switches that would get stuck. I talked them into knocking another $20 off the price. Going to clean and/or replace the switches this week, as well as the toe switch. Thanks for the explanation and tips!
Thanks for the video. I used Silicone Spray, works wonders!
Awesome! Thanks for the tip!
Awesome! Thanks for the tip!
mine broke. they replaced it. now my replacement is squeeking and will probably break I thinl
Bummer... If you keep it lubricated, it should be fine. Also, make sure it's not too tight.
Thank you for posting and making this video! I just encountered the squeakiness!! I'm am going to work on my LT now.
You're welcome! Glad to help.
hey Chuck, thank you very much for posting this. i had the same issue and was able to resolve it, thanks to your video. cheers!
Awesome! Glad it helped!
Chuck Brand thank you for posting this video.
Hey Chuck; Any advice on the wah pedal switch? Looks like mine is busted.
JL B Sorry, but I don't have the X3L anymore, so I can't open it to see. I would log in to the Line 6 website and open a ticket. They might send you one. They sent me a couple of foot switches, when I had mine.
I want to buy that pedal in some weeks but recently I have heard that the expression pedal of this unit broke easily. What do you think about it?
Jonah Paz I have had no issues with mine. Seems pretty solid. It sounds amazing. You will need to get FRFR (PA type) speaker. It doesn't sound very good with a tube amp. If you want to keep your pedals and amp, look at the Helix HX Effects. All the same effects minus the amp models.
Haha actually I do not have an amp that good, But I had 7 amazing pedals in total. I want this because of the amps and the effects. I just sold most of my pedals in order to get the Helix LT. I still got my wah. But I think I'm not going to sell it because I prefer to use my wah instead of the wah (expression pedal of the helix LT) in order to make it last. Maybe I'll just use the expression pedal of the helix LT a bit as a volume pedal or another effect that I would't use as much as a wah I've seen a lot of complains about it.
My expression pedal broke after 5 months of use.
Chuck Brand thank you for posting this video. Is the Lithium grease safe on plastic. Someone on another site suggested silicon grease because the lithium grease contains petroleum and will deteriorate plastic after time?
@@CEJM12345 I think either would be fine. So far, I haven't had any problems with the lithium grease.
That little spring and button is available at fullcompass dot com as part of a new button assembly part number 50-03-0129.
Hello Chuck! Thank you for such a great explanation! I recently got one of these used. However, during shipping, it suffered some damage, listed below: 1. One of the foot switches on the top board went bad. I wouldn't care much about it, still, would like to repair it. The spring feels fine, so I'm suspecting that little black piece is worn out. How do I open the upper board? 2. The protective bar below the screen came off. The bar itself is fine, just the screws got loose. I can hear them rumbling inside the case. Now, the whole circuit board would be in the way of the mounting holes. How could I remove the board? Sorry for the long text. Regards.
Rhitosparsha Baishya The video shows how to disassemble the whole unit, including how to remove to switch circuit boards. Watch the video carefully and I think you will figure it out. Just be careful. Good luck.
+Chuck Brand Thanks for the reply! I think removing the board for upper row foot switches might be a bit tricky. Actually, what I was saying was that I had to fix one of those chrome handles which came off. To reach the holes on which they're mounted, I'd have to remove the main circuit board too, not just the board for the foot switches. Any idea how I can do it?
Rhitosparsha Baishya Rhitosparsha Baishya Oh, I see what you're asking. I don't have a X3 Live anymore, so I can't open one up to help you. However, looking at the video, it looks like you will have to take all of the nuts off of the input and output jacks, then remove the screws holding the circuit board. It looks time consuming, but it should be doable. Take your time, don't force anything, and keep track of any nuts or screws that you remove. I would also take a couple of pictures of the inside for a reference on how everything looks now. Let me know how it goes. Pliers should work to take the jack nuts off (carefully).
+Chuck Brand Thank you so much!
I have a question for you if you would send me a email please. tskidmore7@gmail.com
Great tips...thanks Chuck see ya at church!
Tim Skidmore Thanks! Looking forward to it!
good work, that's fine :)
Hello Mr! I really enjoy all the video... So helpfull! Hehe do you remember the correct size of the micro switches? I was looking in ebay for it... But Was checking are diferent sizes...so if you may share it...i really apreciate! I was loking in 6x6x4.3mm is it ok?
That is the correct dimensions. Make sure you choose a switch that has the same size button. Some switches have tall buttons, some have very short buttons. If it is a 6x6 and looks like the picture they show, it should work fine. I hope that helps.
+Chuck Brand thanks for asking! I will check it!
hey Chuck my hd500s tunner and looper comes automatically could that be a switch problem?
It certainly is possible. I have seen button switches go bad and be constantly shorted. I don't have a HD500 so I can't offer much help. There may be others that have posted videos by now. You might want to do some searching on the HD500. Thanks for your question though. Good luck.
Thanks so much for the video, I think I just repaired my M13!
Your welcome! Awesome!
hi Sir! I really apreciate your time fot do this video... in this momment I am a owner of this x3 live... and I very happy with the pedal... have a nice day... i will consider your recommendation someday in future if I need repair something in my x3 live!!! regreats from Mexico!
Andre Berrios, For some reason I cannot reply to your question, so I hope you get this. My guess is that if all of the buttons are not working, it map be the ribbon cable that connects the foot switch boards to the processor board. I don't think that all of the micro switches would go bad all at one. The ribbon cable may have come loose or fell off. If that is the case, put it back on and use a hot glue gun to hold it together. just put a dab of hot glue on each side (not too much). If it's not the ribbon cable, then (sorry to say) it might actually be something on the processor board. I sure hope not. Good luck, and let me know what you find.
Hi, Chuck Thank you so much for your insight! I hope it's just the flex that may have come loose... I'll crack that bad boy open and I'll let you know what surprise I find there :) I hope it won't be a really bad one! Andrés
Hi Chuck, I'm Andres' friend, I'm actually the owner of the PodX3L that he had issues with. We managed to dissasembly it and we discovered it was indeed the flex what made all the buttons break at the same time, the flex was disconnected. We put the flex back in place and all the buttons started working again. The only problem we had is that the plastic clips that hold the "top" board in place were broken (probably because of ageing, the pedalboard is around 7 years old) so we had to "improvise" something that could hold the board in place. and now my PodX3L works perfectly. As Andres said before, thanks A LOT for your insight and your tutorial video on how to fix the pedalboard! Really helped us find the courage to dissasembly it and finally fix it! :D
JEUS2010 Awesome! I am so happy that this helped you. Perhaps you could make a video to show how you reattached the board, since the clips were broken. Thanks for the kind comments.
Hi Chuck, I hope you're doing great. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. You know, I have a similar issue with my POD X3 Live. But in my case, all the switches broke down at the same time, the only thing that still works is the expression pedal (the wah on/off switch still works, too). The LEDs won't turn on even if I toggle the effects on/off manually from the main board. Do you think it's the flex that connects the main board with the footswitch boards or the individual switches? Maybe a short because of humidity? I'd like to think it's the switches but I can't be sure 'cause all of them stopped working at the same time and that's too much of a coincidence for me to buy it. Thank you in advance, Chuck. Andrés
Hello sir, can you tell me what hex key you use to open the Pod ?
It is a Torx bit, and I believe it is a T15. The allen wrench and Torx look alike, but the are different.
Hi everyone! please help, my x3 live reverb pot goes randomly crazy from 0-100 %, recalling edit mode everytime :( I tried everything from disabling it (reverb OFF) from fxchain, or turning the pot severe times from left to right to see if it's some dust or something, and nothing. It always get back to reverb ON (edit mode). Looked on Line 6 forums for any solution but nobody fixed this or similar issues. This behaviour doesn't allows me to edit any other parameters, drive, master, delays, etc...because reverb is always ON and displaying random percentage numbers. It's impossible to play anything with that crazy reverb fx!! :( Could it be the solution a pot replacement? the service center told me that I need to replace the motherboard, but I have not that money :(
Hi Veronica. Sorry about your X3. I don't have a solution. It does sound like it may be a motherboard issue. I would suggest carefully taking the unit apart and lokk for anything obvious. Look for broken wires, loose connectors, and things like that. Get some contact cleaner and clean all of the connectors and pots. Have you tried a full reset of the unit? Hope this helps.
Chuck Brand hey Chuck, thank you so much for your response! Yes I tried full reset and this thing never goes away. Never tried to open it...but some friends suggested the contact cleaning also. I fear to leaving it worst than it is now, ha !! Well, I'll ask for helpful hands here in my town, to open it and try the cleaning in a few days. Thank you!! regards from Argentina!!
Verónica Gorosito Watch the video a couple of times. I show you how to open up. I also point out the things you need to watch for. I believe it's a a T5 torx bit that you need. Hopefully a good cleaning is all it needs. Good luck.
+Sorry Veronica, it's a T15 torx.
Chuck Brand OK, that's what I'll try with a friend, thanks Chuck you're very kind !!! :D
For some reason Kapil, I cannot reply to your comment, so I'll do it here. I have no experience on the digital 003. However, if you can get it open to see what the jack looks like, you may be able to find one on ebay. Jacks are typically not to hard to change. Look for broken wires or bad solder connections too. It might just need resoldered.
I have a digi 003 console and one of the output jacks are not working. How should I go about changing that?
Thank you for sharing this sir :D
Thank you Chuck !!!
You're welcome Kako!
Why kind of screwdriver do u use to open up the case?? I mean the size of screwdriver. The letter L screwdriver? Size? sorry my english is really bad.
