on my second playthrough, which i finished today, i had a bad cough from smoking too much. when arthur would break into coughing fits, so would i because of the immense connection i had to the character that persisted through all these years since i first played it. thats something ive never experienced. those moments just strengthened my connection with arthur and his journey. im not saying smoke a bunch to feel your black lungs burn when arthurs do, but its something i'll never forget. arthurs story helped me get through and heal from my dads abuse, and on my second playthrough i realized why. late game dutch is exactly like my father. hes mentally ill and acts exactly like him. the tones in his voice, the mocking, even the things he would say. it was almost like he was quoting my dad. the weakness and conflict in arthurs head mirrored my own when it came to my dad, and thats also something i'll NEVER forget. my first playthrough was a huge reason why im even alive today, it saved my life. my second playthrough helped me heal from the scars and trauma left over from all those years ago. arthurs will to do the right thing no matter what in his last days influenced how i live my life now and how i treat others. he gave me a role model to look up to when i was a suffering 13 year old boy who lacked the guidance of a true father. he showed me what a real man looked like, he taught me emotional maturity and positive vulnerability which ive sadly never seen until i met that man. he showed me what i could be in spite of my upbringing. my dad was abused, and so was his dad, but just like the games message, it showed me i could break that cycle of anger and negativity. ive never told anyone this, and im sorry for the paragraph, but i just have to express just how deep my appreciation for this game is and just how much it truly effected me and my life, even if no one reads this. i cant wait to share this series and arthurs story with my own children some day. sometimes when im angry at the world, and i want to hurt someone back, i still think of Arthur Morgan and those moments of eye contact with the stag...

its odd getting this in my recommended- an album that formed the basis for my being and creative profession. And yet all these years of knowing this album intimately, i never thought to look into its deeper context- afraid it would ruin its ambiguity. That is to say i was pleasantly surprised that it had none to begin with- and that experience with the album was exactly the point. This was a beautiful video and a wonderful interpretation, that was able to reignite my love for it. That being said, I always imagined this album to be a person's descent into madness when faced with the precipice of transcendence. His love, a being outside human understanding- maybe a deity (though exactly what they are isnt the point)- slowly detaches them from humanity in order to bring them to a "higher" realm. Though, as with any story of trying to defy mortality, delusion can coat the senses, making the whirlwind of destruction around you seem like an act of love rather than anger. And as the song Isle Unto Thyself asks at the end, the answers are destruction and love. Like it says, hurt and love go hand in hand. The narrator gets to leave this world, but in an act of love, he takes us all with him as well- its all old lore now- as well all dance in the white ball. sorry, it seems like i could also write an essay on this lmao.

i really wish i had looked into the songs earlier than i did, so out of pure boredom here is my HAWAII: PART II timeline without any specific dates in about 2021 i heard "all for nothing at all" only thinking of it as a meme song and not really caring much about it (i was 11 at the time and shouldnt have had tiktok) 2022 i hear more sounds from HAWAII: PART II not at all knowing or thinking they are related including "it feels like flying but maybe we're dying", "alone at the edge of a universe humming a tune for merely dreaming we were snow" (or "with sparkling crystal souls aglow") never noticing the two different songs early 2023 i hear the mind electric (demo 4) in a genshin impact edit/omori edit (comparing the two) a little later i find out that isnt the actual song and find out the actual song is just the mind electric after that while waiting for my dad in our car i ask my mom to play it but it plays in reverse (i didnt know it was like that at the time so i assumed it was the wrong one) since i was unable to find the "real one" i was too embarrassed to try and find the "real version" a few months go by and i come across the song again, i ask my alexa to play it out of boredom and curiosity after asking her to play it multiple time thinking she was playing "the wrong one" i just let it play through and realized it was the actual song i find out its from an album called HAWAII: PART II and listen to it i like the song dream sweet in sea major and i still remember listening to it for the first time and thinking it was weird skipping ahead i now have a really unhealthy obsession with the album and it is slowly driving me insane :D Think of these thoughts as limitless light Exposing closing circuitry of fright Think of each moment holding this breath As death minute in decimal Resident minor, how do you plead? The way I’ve interpreted it is that he came to Hawaii to escape his life, the first half of the album tells the tale of him and his lover, enjoying the typical island paradise, hoping to one day die with eachother. While the other half says that one day while the boy was in the forest someone came to kill his love. For the rest of the album the story focuses on the killer, who was a stalker wanting the love that had been seemingly taken. He is sentence to the asylum where he is driven even deeper into madness. The end is a blend of the boy dying alone, never having found another love and the killer trying to escape the asylum, but dying out at sea. They both find the girl in the afterlife, but they go to difrent places with her.

This may sound grim but this game made me want to die awake, not while I sleep. Arthur’s journey and redemption, his final thoughts, all made me want to be better but also to die knowing that I did well.

My favorite band of all time

I think for the most part my enjoyment of this game came from just enjoying things within it (wow what a surprise, as if you don't do that in any game). What I mean by that is just taking your time to complete the story and exploring, fishing, hunting, collecting-- there's so much to do apart from even side stories to envelop you into the fold of the experience. I still boot up the game even now to go fishing because I found a simplicity within it way back in 2018. My friends and I have debated buying a server JUST to go fishing. We find that niche within the game and the game follows through in fulfilling it. It's insane to me how much choice you have in what you do to actually enjoy RDR2, because not everyone's experience is going to be like mine, but it's overall the same feeling. Not to mention the greatness about every other aspect of the game. It's just easy to enjoy it.

The *actual nightmare of dhmis

This game is what carried me through high school. Probably one of the few games that have personally changed me (I don’t think I have cried over a fictional character as much as I did for Arthur. Even other characters like Hosea, Lenny, and Sean have always been deeply rooted in my mind). This is one of the few games that, if I could forget all of it to experience it again, I would. 100 times, over and over.

This game has never gotten off of my mind since I've played it, it truly is a master of it's craft, and Rockstar's magnum opus. It's such a beautiful game, and I feel like you encapsulated it's beauty perfectly in this video.
