I love Bromptons. I´m going to test one of the bikes for hire in London.

Your video made me miss London. I live in Singapore and ride a Brompton too. Can’t help but notice the gutter covers in the video are parallel to the road. One would do well to avoid them, lest the slim tyres get stuck in it and a horrific crash would ensue?
I agree. I'm much more conscious of the drain covers riding my Brompton. Luckily haven't had any issues yet, but certainly a risk.
@@cyclingthecity I would be worried at night or low light. Much harder to spot. Over here our cycle infrastructure is still improving but thankfully the gutter design is perpendicular so it’s ok to ride over.
I ride from Battersea Power Station to Bank to go to work Monday to Friday on my Brompton 3speed and I love it it’s a great commute.
@@JuarytheKing Oh cool! You must be pleased with the new changes around Bank. I was planning to go there tomorrow to take a look now it has all opened.

thanks for this video. I need to make a similar commute but am not an experienced urban rider. I'm a bit apprehensive about taking the bike along this route or a similar one... I can't shake the feeling that if I do this 1000 times (during rush hours), I will suffer critical damage on one of those occasions...
I'm glad you found the video helpful. I completely understand your apprehension, but I'm sure there are similar routes to your destination that have a higher proportion of segregated cycleways. As long as you obey the traffic lights, avoid cycling down the inside of large vehicles and keep your wits about you, I'm sure you'll be fine.

Thanks. I'm pleased you like the video. I'm using a DJI Pocket 3, however if I was looking at buying a camera today, I'd probably go with the newly announced Insta360 X4.

London really is just nice to pedal around now. I'm always amazed how quiet a lot of streets are just metres away from gridlock.
Absolutely. I'm finding so many new protected routes to cycle and explore the city.
I think I'll come up again for a weekend. Did Westminster to Greenwich a few weeks ago
Definitely some great other routes to try. I still haven't made it over to Richmond Park, which is meant to be great to cycle

The streets are nice and empty of both traffic and parked vehicles. What day/time is this? I spend a lot of weekends in London and usually travel down from Nottingham on the train with my Brompton, and would love to get out and do some quiet rides like this.

I did London Eye to Greenwich on Saturday. Great weather if a bit breezy and a 20 min hailstorm.
Unlucky about the weather, it can’t have been fun cycling in the hail! I did my ride on Sunday and it was still pretty breezy.

Oh definitely. Just recovering from a foot injury at the moment. Hopefully I’ll be back on the bike again in the next few weeks.

You cant go out on the streets and be scared. What will happen will happen. Ive been riding 22 years on london streets. Had a handful of wipeouts. Nothing too serious. Bruises and cuts.But I know alot of accidents are born out of complacency. Myself included. Never take anything for granted. Ride sensibly in built up areas. And ALWAYS keep your eyes on the road and your surroundings. Adjust your speed too. Dont ride like a maniac. 25mph on an open road with few people and cars is very different to 25mph in an area where a car door can suddenly open. Or someone can fly out in front of you. Be aware of this. And you will be alot safer and others too from you.
Very true. I really enjoy it. As long as you keep your wits about you, and expect the unexpected, it's a great place to ride :)

Haha! I only have them on flash mode when dark and the traffic is busy, but not when I'm filming.

I'm glad you like the video. No idea of average speed I'm afraid, but not particularly fast. The wide angle lens of the Go Pro makes everything look faster than in reality!

7:08 Infirm people like must be terrified of aggressive lycra-clad cyclists. There are some considerate cyclists out there, but its all about the momentum.
Yeah, It's nice to know us considerate cyclists are appreciated.
Is there a petty reason why these bike lanes, which were put in place under a Tory government, blue? Surly, red tarmac would have been more practical in terms of visibility and maintenance.
I think it was probably because Barclays was the original corporate sponsor.

Funnily enough I rode this route yesterday after the underground staff stopped me from getting to the platform with my bike, because it was past 4:30pm. I was worried about the condition of the bike but I survived. Google must be monitoring me and making suggestions.
Hey nice video, i am planning on purchasing the new GoPro too, from your experience is it worth the money?
I guess it depends what you're upgrading from. For me, I was upgrading from a GoPro Hero 7, so it was a nice bump in performance :)
What settings do you use for your gopro and what mount?
I use the standard chesty mount for the GoPro. Having just upgraded to the Hero 12, I'm still messing around with the settings, but this video was 4k, 16:9, 30fps and auto shutter.

If only more people realised that commuting on a bicycle in London doesn’t have to be scary or dangerous (depending on the route) and can actually be quite enjoyable.
Absolutely. So many of the main routes now are segregated. It's the guys that whizz around on the silent electric scooters without any thought for other commuters that are the worst to deal with these days!

I was born n bred in Ilford and a veteran of the City of London Police and I cannot believe how the east end and especially the city has changed beyond recognition, well, to me anyway lol.
