Looking at the Shimano Steps EP801 and how it relates to the Azub Ti-fly recumbent trike. Trike with Mike TX goes into detail to show the features of the e assist motor that is currently unique to Azub in the trike world. Other manufacturers are 'behind' the times and only offer the ep8 motor.
Dont Make Excuses

Its Easy to make excuses not to exercise. In my case, riding my Trike. But every time i get a chance to overcome an excuse and hop on the Trike, i'm so glad I did. After all, the Trike is an investment in YOURSELF. Make it pay off by using that investment.

Why would you swap out your AZUB Dream Seat?
zhlédnutí 96Před 19 hodinami
Swapping out my dream seat for a normal Mesh Seat. Why would anyone want to do this? For me, its a heat thing. The dream seat is the absolute best except when it comes to keeping cool. In Texas, cool overrides comfort for about 4 months out of the year. June, July, August, and September are the worst for heat.

The Catrike DuMont is the Cadillac of the Catrike Lineup. It is the top of the line with suspension. Regarding the blob in the video If you dont get the microphone wire just right, it shows up in the video. i think i bumped it when getting the trikes ready to go and it was in view just enough to cause an issue. Kind of a bummer. Thanks for watching.

Very nice ride! We are relatively new to the area, so I appreciate your rides. Have you or do you know of any trike riders who have had their trikes serviced at the Bike Mart on 380?
I have. I live right across 380 from them. They do a good job. They have done a full tune up for me and replaced some parts under warranty. What are you riding?
@@TrikeWithMikeTX we ride Catrikes. We stopped today & made an appointment with them. I affirmed that they use the Catrike physical checklist. Thanks for your response!
@@joannemartin7306 i had taken in my Catrike Villager when they worked on it.
@@TrikeWithMikeTX we decided to give them a try since the trip to John’s is so long. We have considered parking at Home Depot someday & riding in Windsong for a change of scenery. Perhaps we will see you!
@@joannemartin7306 i park along Canyon Ridge off Teel when i drive over there. I can go a bit further and just ride over, but it takes some two land blacktop riding. I have a windsong video here. hit me up trikewithmiketx@gmail.com. i am always looking to ride. Windsong czcams.com/video/yaTgJGL3An0/video.htmlsi=uOaf2t6UKY6pSxyQ
I have an ICE Adventure HD with Shimano Steps EP8, bought new last year, with a Rohloff hub. None of this has any automatic mode, but I find after 3 rides my mind does. I prefer it that way. Sometimes I want to push harder, sometimes less. I'm 300 lbs and am pretty happy with the HD, few other models of any trike are rated that high. Azub should build one for heavier riders.
I Love riding my wifes HD. I probably would have gotten that instead of the Azub as it is a bit lighter and cost lett if it hadnt been for the 801. It is that much better than the ep8. Keep on riding. Like and subscribe as I have HD content here and lots of other stuff you may find interesting.
Great ride!
It was!
i love your trike what kind is it and where did you buy it .

Kendaraan dan jalur nya sungguh keren ❤❤❤
Nice video.
Thanks!
Been there. Done that. It sucks.
I spent my career sleeping in the torpedo rm. Since I was 6"5" I could extend my feet off the end of the bunk so I typically didn't spend any time hot bunking.
6'5" had to be tough on a submarine. We had a guy 6'3" and he was constantly banging his head on stuff hanging down from the ceiling. I can see why the torpedo room was an advantage for you as i dont think a regular rack was tall enough for you. Thank you for your service. Its always good to have other bubbleheads on the channel.
Did you get your mesh seat from John? Did he stock or have to order it? How much? Thanks!
Ordered from John. Came in the next shipment from Azub. Maybe 2 week wait
Hi Mike! My husband & I live in Sandbrock Ranch. My husband rides a Villager & I ride a Pocket. I noticed your red bags on your trike? Who makes them? Enjoy your videos!
These are Ortleib bags. Specifically the sport roller bags. They make one that is larger that would also fit. They are made really well. They also come in different colors. Thanks for watching. Like and subscribe. I have a video coming out tomorrow July 2 that goes over some of the accessories on my trike. czcams.com/video/6MFVOYCJUIU/video.html
@@TrikeWithMikeTX thanks for the info. We are taking our trikes to Colorado Springs in August to ride the Garden of the Gods. Jack has a pannier on his trike and I wanted to add storage to mine. I have liked & subscribed.
@@joannemartin7306 That sounds like a good time. Sometime I want to do that ride. And others around the country.
Enjoyed virtually riding with you at 5am. I was also out at 5. It’s the coolest time of day. Got to watch out for the walkers with out lights or reflective materials. Morning are my favourite summer ride.
Yes, the best time. It gets unbearable later in the day just to walk outside. Keep on riding!
What was the thing dragging off the rear wheel?
If you dont get the microphone wire just right, it shows up in the video. i think i bumped it when getting the trikes ready to go and it was in view just enough to cause an issue. Kind of a bummer. Thanks for watching.
@@TrikeWithMikeTX OK, we just couldn't figure out what it was. So does the Max have a front derailleur post you could add a derailleur and triple chainwheel set 🤔
@@outandaboutontherecumbents i will have to ask John. or Catrike themselves. I know most go to one chainring when they go to e assist but they usually dont suffer in performance. i think if you were going to go to all that trouble, i would look at the 559 instead and it has the added benefit of folding
Enjoyed your stories Mike. I was over there in "74" and "76" on the USS Chicago (CG-11). Formerly QM3.
Thank you for your service!
That's what it looks like when you start off at sunrise. There's a Heat Warning on in Virginia.
Stay Cool my friend!!!

Thank you for your service...they couldn't get there w out you guys. Teamwork. God bless America.
Confirmation on the out-eating everyone! We had a team on board for about 10 days. They basically worked out all day and ate everything in sight! Great group of men too!
They are awesome!
Lovely neighborhood. Wonderful to see so many flags flying.
I like the locking brakes also for easy in and out of your trike . With the locking brakes you can get out of your trike with ease
Gore , pearl izumi all have Leggings to protect your leg prices are expensive but worth it ..
Sounds like the Catrike MAX might be an option for you. It almost has the smaller turning radius of the Villager. And it has room in the cockpit.
I will be testing the MAX out soon. I've already got my 'replacement' trike but the MAX was an early contender.
Bike clothing companies have great sun protection clothing sleeves for your arms and legs. And they help keep you cool and 50 percent UV protection .
The long sleeve shirts i wear have that protection. I need to figure out some pants though. Your legs are very exposed and i've got the weirdest tan right now. mid thigh down to sock is tan, the rest is white
In like the C1
Glad to see you got your "mikes" back. Makes a huge difference.😀
They can’t all be good.
Wow, the first negative review I have seen for a recumbent trike! They are all supposed to be GREAT. Thanks for your honesty, it had me chuckling.
Which do you think is a better recumbent trike, the Catrike 559 (designed and produces in the U.S) or the HPV Gekko Comfort (designed in Germany and produces in Taiwan). Thanks so much!
I have a friend with a gecko. I don’t think the gecko folds but could be wrong. The Catrike has direct steering. I do like the Catrike 559 but haven’t reviewed the gecko. I wouldn’t be giving you the proper advice. If you can try both at a shop do so. My shop does not carry hp. I think they should
@TrikeWithMikeTX I think either the fx's or the fs' s could be folded. I am planning to go and test ride them. The 559 is $3,750, and the Gekko fx's sport or comfort is around 4K (both without a motor or suspension). Thank you for your comment!
@@stevennguyen4613 both those are close enough in price that i wouldnt consider the price when buying. This is an investment in yourself. which one feels better for you during a ride. Try to take them on a 5 or mor mile test ride if they let you. test fit in your vehicle also.
@TrikeWithMikeTX One with direct steering and the other with indirect. Hopefully, the shop will allow for a longer test rides. Thank you for the useful suggestions.
@@stevennguyen4613 let me know what you end up getting.
Such a cool helmet!
I appreciate your video! Which is your preference… On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rank the: Catrike 559 Ecat Terratrike EVO. Also, do you find clips are being over promoted by dealers, for safety? I’ve never used them on a two wheel bike, but dealers are pushing them aggressively for trikes. I understand the risk, but have you personally experienced a need for them?
After riding this one terratrike I would not recommend. Other models may be better. If a 559 is a contender for you I would rate it high. Pedals I started with slings. Then moved to clips. Now I ride platforms. My feet feel better with these. I’ve not felt unsafe .
@@TrikeWithMikeTX Thanks!
Not a fan of direct steering…AZUB, ICE, HPV in a league of their own…thanks for all the videos!
Dear, you are making very good videos, your video quality is very good. Only maa your videos are not getting views because of seo, if you do seo properly your videos will get a lot of views, give me your gmail address, so that I can inform you more about this, and we can discuss.
I think it's always dificult when you're used to an azub. May I asked what you payed for your trike? And what the price would be without the E-assist?
You can price the entire azub line at Azub.eu. There are so many things you can add to it there are so many variations
I think you need to give the Rambler another chance when it is set up correctly. The steering is heavy but solid. I went from a Catrike 559 to a Rambler. The 559 waa fantastic but as I aged it became to hard to get out of it. (To low and I am 7’) I considered the Catrike Max but didn’t want 20” wheels. I’m very happy with it and can continue to ride and get up, kinda handy😂. It is more of a pickup truck, not a race car. Sorry you got a bad impression because of poor setup.
I agree. My wife and I love our Ramblers. Neither are e-assist. We both have nearly 500 miles on them in less than 2 months. Not to mention they were half the price of anything else, 1/4 the price of the Azub. Ride no different than any other non-suspension trike.
@@philsonnenberg6092 Thats awesome. Keep on riding!

Glad you stopped by. 84-88 for me.
Awesome video Mike if I don’t say so myself! I think your CZcams channel rocks! Providing these interviews definitely adds another dynamic layer which I think is a great idea! Much success to you and your channel!
I was on an ssbn (boomer) and smoked my pipe onboard. Seems strange now but that was the norm back then. i don't recall ever having to resort to O2 candles. Never been on any other type of boat , so I can not atest to how things were done on them.
Ya can't git there from here! ;-)
Where are you in TX? I was at John’s today!
I'm in Prosper....straight up the tollway
Nice! I’m in the mid cites near DFw …
Just what I was looking for, thank you. I ride a trike, I am considering a 360 camera, but not quite sure what I could do with it. You have given me a good idea of what might be possible.
Lots of things to do. There is a learning curve on editing in the beginning, but once you figure that out its alot of fun.
I was stuck in the sonar shack with smokers for 6 hours at a time during deployments.
Yeah. I didnt go into sonar much as it was a very small space and any smokers in there nobody could escape it. At least in the Torpedo room, there was alot of space, but still a small 'gathering' space. Welcome to the channel
Love that song!
Yes, I remember the turtles! Looks like you have a great trail with no traffic pedal on…
Need to have some of you over for a nice ride. I get about 20 miles with mostly trails, a few residential crossings and shortcuts. Room for more mileage
Mike - Always enjoy your videography. It was a good morning for a ride, the clouds that rolled in later in the ride helped us to keep cool. The plan to brunch at iHop was foiled when we could barely find a spot to park the trikes, let alone get seating for 6 somewhat sweaty trikers. We ended up at Bone Daddy's where the Manager waved us into her Resturant 15 minutes before their opening. We were served by her boss, the District Manager! Fabulous service and great food. Summer is approaching, we will have to start the rides earlier, just 31 miles this ride.
Yes, I don't like when they let me go, either. They're faster, they will clear the way quicker, please go ahead. And don't gawk at me. But then I remind myself, I'm a representative of our community. Wave thank you, smile, spread the good will and kindness.
They have the right of way...but they are trying to be nice...
Are these safer than traditional 2 wheel bicycles? I assume they are, but how much safer? After 2 serious accidents (bike flipped in wet pavement recently) I’m considering a trike. I’m too old to break another bone.
This is precisely why all of us are riding them. I broke an arm mountain biking. Rich had several catastrophic 2 wheel crashes. It is so much better than a 2 wheel bike. Watch the 'Rider Spotlight with Tom, and coming soon, Rich. You will hear some of their stories.
@@TrikeWithMikeTX Thanks for responding. I’m 12 days into recovering from a broken collar bone. I’ve been spending this time researching alternatives. I will take your advice and watch the video. Greatly appreciated!
Hi Mike, quick question I have a tie fly X also and it pulls terribly bad to the right and I’ve a front end alignment done three times. That still has not fixed it and new tires last just a little over 100 miles. I’m on my third set right now. Have you had any problems like this or know anybody else that has? The seller is not really helping me that well.
Yet boomers and gen X millennials and zoomers just want instant gratification 😂
I tried both models. I think AZUB Ti-fly is better! While riding the Adventure FS model, the rear wheel lifted and both knees hit the asphalt road. I thought my knee was broken;
i havent mentioned yet, but the suspension on the Ti-fly is 'connected' and the suspension on the ICE just floats and is not connected
From Denmark: Thx Mike for sharing your rides and tips with us Trikers this side of the Atlantic. A beautiful neighbourhood, you rode through. I am 80 years old and still long distance biking/triking, 5 months of the year. Until 4 years ago, I was bicycling a 2 wheeler KOGA TRAVELLER + hauling a Ziflex RWS (rear wheel suspension) mono wheel Trailer hookup. Then I, for curiosity and willing to try something different, changed to an ICE SPRINT FS 20" and hooked my faithful ZIFLEX Trailer to it. NO EL Assist, carrying my 112 kg + 65 kg gear. Absolutely satisfied for the change. Last summer I carried on a summer Trip of 2.886 km, lost 18 kg during the tour, which took me from Ebeltoft (Denmark) to Frederikshavn (DK) - Ferrying to Gothenburg (Sweden) - Triking to Stockholm, with incursions up/down the line - Ferry to Turku (Finland) - Triking to Helsinki and 6 weeks stay - Ferry back to Stockholm and 4 weeks stay - Triking along Sweden's East Coast to Nynæshamn - Ferry to Visby (Swedish Gotland Island) - Ferry to Oskarshamn - Triking along the East Coast to Ystad (South Sweden - Ferry to the and 2 weeks stay on the Danish Island of Bornholm - Ferry to Køge (South of Copenhagen, Danish East Coast) - Triking/3 short Ferry crossings from Falster/Lolland to Langeland and Ærø (Wonderful Danish Island/sailing Hub) - Then back to Ebeltoft over Sjællands Odde. May 20th I am leaving for a round trip of the Danish Southern Islands and cross South Jutland to Tønder (Close to Germany's border) and up the Danish West Coast to Skagen and back to Ebeltoft along the East Coast of Jutland, visiting friends along the way. If you want to join, you are welcome.
Thats great. 3 of the guys i ride with in the Plano Low Riders are 85-87. We have a little longer period we can ride in TX, but just keep moving!. Thanks for watching.
The ability to adjust the seat in so many ways is one of the main reasons I chose the Azub over the other high end trike, HP velotechnik.
You can 3 positions adjust the seat on an ICE Trike too. My next Trike would certainly be an AZUB Ti-Fly or equivalent. Seems to me that it is sturdier constructed than models from the competition, ideal for long haul trips.
