We rode on the train there back when it first opened as a tourist run in the late 1990s. If I recall correctly the train only made a 10-15 minute trip back then, with the engine pushing the entire way. I don't think they could cross any of the bridges then. Good memories.

I got pictures of the SD50F leading intermodals trains in Ontario.

Music ruined the wonderful steam and engine sounds.

The only CN Cowl that I’ve seen was 2430 when I saw it leading an empty flatcar train a few years ago.

Such an inspiring and admirable video, remembering those places I visited just some days ago, and of course watched some trains. I had returned home, but I'm wishing to come back as soon as life permits!

Nice seeing both of these rare locomotives well preserved. I wonder if it may be a good idea to build a roof over them to help protect the engines from the weather.

why hasnt some of that oil money gone into making the Selkirk run. Damn I would like to see it charge over Rogers Pass and Field Hill.

I'd rather have CP 5931 be restored to operation by the CP steam program at Ogden

Very cool clip. Alberta is soooo much more than just Edmonton, Calgary and on weekends Banff, Jasper and in the summer, Sylvan Lake... There are literally hundreds of cool ghost towns just like this. I just wish Alberta would put its money where its mouth is, start its provincially owned rail concern, and relaunch upgraded services to all parts of Alberta that were once criss-crossed by railways. We've already lost like 90% of the rail network that once was and they are now more relevant than ever in a low-carbon future where hydrogen and electric and promising, but rails are still just that much more efficient that a rubber-tired truck could be...

Amazing there is no mention of Calgarian Jim Lannigan, who was most instrumental in getting the engine to Calgary from Winnipeg in the 1980's.

Great documentary, thanks for producing this!. It's cool to think that CP 8410 at 2:43 is still running today in revenue freight service, a unit that spent it's first decade of service alongside steam locomotives.

The Kettle Valley Ry was the most costly mile-over-mile railroad in N. America. It got worse. It had to close off its highest pass in the winters because it literally snowed them in. The maintenance of way workers were overwhelmed starting in late November and by mid-December most years the railway simply closed that route until the late spring. Also, the Kettle Valley Ry was stood up solely to keep the American Great Northern Railway under tycoon J. J. Hill from making an incursion into territory that the CPR's charter said was its territory, from the CPR mains all the way to the Canadian/US border. No other railway could be built in that region if the Canadian government was to keep their side of the charter. Except the Americans didn't care and began to build their lines anyway. If you ever get to Hope, British Columbia, do take the Othello exit on the Coquihalla highway and spend an hour, at least, a the Othello or Quintet Tunnel complex. It was part of the Kettle Valley and has to be seen to be believed. Five tunnels, each with a bridge linking them. Imagine that, over a roaring river that winds back and forth below.

I worked on this train, for a season, 20 some years ago. I was very blessed to be able to experience all of the magic. The level of service, from the 5 course meals, the attentive, informed and engaging service staff, to the incredible scenery. The history and beautiful craftsmanship of the cars was more than enough to take you to a different time. After turndown service and our 24 guests were tucked away for the night, I spent quite a few nights on the vestibule with a brandy or a fine glass of wine, reveling in the stars and the beauty. PS. I also worked my a$$ off! 16 hour days!! Example: Carrying trays of champagne flutes on a moving train! Quite a skill I might add!

What do we do if we don't have any system to play Blu-Ray, will it be sold on any online platform at any point?

It was enjoyable to operate the SD60s, especially when as a double set or triple set. Very responsive acceleration and braking.

I'm soo confused. Is DCC the same thing as DCS? I really believe Lionel designers dropped the ball on all of this confusion regarding how to run trains. Bad idea in my opinion.

Their should be a Cowl version of the GE Evolution Series locomotives. Why? So that both the Legacy of the CN & CP cowl units can Live on (Hopefully some Dash 8-40CM’s are Preserved), and so that the Eventual Alaska Canada corridor could have locomotives designed specifically for the Frigid environments up there. Seriously, EMD & GE *NEED* to make more Cowl Units. Like, they should take their Current iterations of SD (Special Duty) series & Evolution Series and make Cowl Body versions of them. IT’s NOT THAT HARD.

Even when new, these 2400´ give illusion of sagging downward frame.

Aberdean Carolina Western in NC bought 25 or 30 of the CN cowls 5520-5559 orange with black white stripes they also got 6922 alastrom grey one of only two left in service

I just caught 3 (most likely heading to scrap) in Schoolcraft Michigan about a week ago, and one was a BC Rail! One of them was the exact one in the opening scenes, #2403. How cool!

My husband and i had the pleasure and experience of going from Palliser in Calgary to Fairmont. B.C. on her in early 2000s with the company he worked for at the time. This will always one of my core memories. Its what I think the Titanic would have looked like if it was a train. 🤩

CP officials riding a train as "Royalty"........pathetic when Canadians are struggling to buy groceries.....these idiots are not royalty.....its the hard working Canadians that built this railway and not some nitwit officials that never lifted a shovel to build this railway.....let the employees ride the train free instead and let the so called "royalty" serve those that actually built this train and the railway
