2024 Sherco SEF 300, Better than a KTM?
Today I'm doing a ride review on the new 2024 Sherco (made in France) SEF 300.
The 300 is a four stroke, factory enduro bike that’s aimed directly at their main competition, KTM.
The video is a little longer than I would have liked but there was just way to mush good footage not to share.

Its Chinese made of course, but made to HafCos higher than normal standard. Price came in at $1600 Aus. No doubt the same saw can be bought from various suppliers worldwide.

Great vid thanks mate, so much better than reading the instructions!
Great video thanks. I was in two minds about replacing my "race on" switch due to the cost. Mine's a 2019 bike, last month I was touring France from the UK so about 1000 miles from home, I went to power on the bike and there was nothing at all. I pulled all the fuses to check but all were OK, I replaced them and got power on. I was anxious the entire remainder of the trip. I was unsure about the true cause of the failure but suspect corrosion or dirt in the switch. Looks like for peace of mind I'll have to replace it. KTM dealers are aware of this so KTM will be also. At the very least they should supply the new switches at cost. 🤷♂️
With a stiff side wall is it still necessary to air down ?
excellent top job
looks like a great trip thanks for sharing it, we are doing teh GCR in July, how was this leg (episode 4) how did you go for fuel and how sandy was it, we are on 12oo Triumph and BMW's
Fuel can be limited to petrol station opening times. Most of the communitys have fuel but check times. Day 4 had some very sand patches. Nothing you cant paddle through though. Road conditions really depend on when it was last graded. Bit of a lottery apparently.
@@mostlymotorcycles. great thanks, looks a more interesting route than the highway
Bit late saying this now but it would have been much earlier just buying a longer spring clip!
Bolt go somewhere on that bike😂😂😂😂 good luck!!
Great vid mate, how’s the engine braking? Also how is it on the initial opening of the throttle? Thinking this’ll be my next bike probably 25 model after my little hiatus (knee surgery)
Engine breaking not bad for a 4 banger. Throttle response is good, quite linear. At high revs its super snappy. Can catch you off gard.
Hi. Maybe you already know what that extra button is for but to answer your question, it is to disable the rear ABS. KTM calls it supermoto mode. You just have to long press it.
Mine stopped working when you press it longer than 3 sec.. what could be the issue
Hi, so if I got it right, the issue is bad stator. Correct? The problem goes in this order: speedo + headlight works after cranking up the vehicle -> bad stator -> doesnt charge battery properly while the headlight consumes power from battery -> battery voltage drops -> speedo stops working once the voltage drops below 9V -> Headlight also stops -> battery gains voltage -> cycle repeats My question is: My duke 390 also has same issue. It's 2013 model. Mine doesnt have always on headlight. Then why does mine have the same issue? Also, isnt replacing headlight with LED light not a permanent solution? Why is the speedo going off after a certain speed, while coming back on instantly after going below 60kmph? Shouldnt it stay off no matter the speed?
Sounds like a different issue to mine. Your right It's not a permanent fix if the stator is failing, but fitting a low wattage bulb may make it hang in there a little longer. Check a previous comment from a dude who traced his issue down to a faulty contact in his ignition switch. This was causing an intermittent low voltage to the speedo cluster.
Looking into restoring my dad’s old 79. Will you put us in a direction in finding all the parts? And how long this project took to complete? I really appreciate it
Check a Web sites called KEDO Yamaha parts. They specialise in XT500s. I believe that its a franchise and operates form a few country's around the world. I reckon it was about 8 month. Getting the forks rechromed was expensive and took about 2 month. There are some replacement stantions Available for the later modles so hunt around. They are a great classic bike now. I always get lots of attention at the bike shows with it.
@@mostlymotorcycles. Ok great. Thanks for the feedback and for sharing your progress! I pulled his bike apart nearly 15 years ago with the same intention. I was a kid with a lot of ambition and little know-how. The parts landed in sealed barrels behind the shop and I never forgave myself. It’s time.
Hello. check the resistance from fuse 1 to pin 11 on the dashboard. I had 14 ohms. I disassembled the ignition lock and cleaned the contacts. the resistance has become less than 1 ohm. after that, there were no problems with the speed readings even once.
I changed the stator but the speedo still shows 0 kmph at times. I even changed the battery but still no luck and my headlight bulb is stock. So what might be the issue?
Sounds like a different issue. Maybe a broken or misaligned picup. Or a corroded connector.
What do you mean by pickup here?
And could you even suggest which all connectors need to be check for corrosion?
There is a easy solution to your ktm 1290 switch its self on and off. Make sure the main key (the one with the battery in it) is far enough away from the bike so it cant be picked up by the race on button. Then using the key that doesn't have a battery, hold the key on the inside of the left hand panel, its marked where to hold the key and push the race on button.and it should be ok. It qorked for me when l had this problem
Yes that would work. Guess you could pull the battery from the keyless fob for the same effect. Didn't think of that at the time. Still has to be fixed but.
Sir is there any particular voltage led bulb is required for this or any led bulb 15 wt to 30 wt bulb is fine let me know sir i have same issue in my duck ktm 390 .im from India Bangalore
12 volt. 15 watt led would be fine.
Great work, would love to see it when it's finished!
You are so lucky to have managed to not only have this bike, but Hava a passion for it I have a tilt up portion or the rear fender for one of these bikes. A scrap collector friend had it on her pu. In a box of junk. I was "like! Where did you get this? Turns out the lady who gave her some scrap metal that day. Bought it at a swap meet in the late 70s in the Santa Barbara CA area. I have it mounted in my garage. Rust included.
Hello! Please check the voltage fluctuations at the battery terminals at idle using an oscilloscope. My volts jumped from 10.5 to 14.5. replacing the battery with a new one fixed the speedometer error

NUBE The incorrect spelling of noob or newb. Only noobs spell this word as 'nube'. And thus I have learned 😅
That motor is worth between $40-50 k rebuilt
It looks like it may have ben green from.dsy 1 i still.see a little green left on the right side
Runs grate but should be striped completly repainted then used for a show piece on a shelf in side only gor shows
Definitely going to fully rebuild the Mechanicals. But the plan is to keep the body work as is remove the loose rust and coat it with some kind of metal preservative. Maybe boiled linseled oil.
It's just dying for the factory couler paint job it would.look.200 percent better it's very old the old girl deserves it
Might even locate pictures of this brand new se he can see what the details looked like then
Thanks for this video man! Helped me a lot, I got the same exhaust for my soon to come KTM1290SAS. Video also online soon.
After installing mine, just to add some info: On the stock KTM exhaust at the bottom/ beginning of the slip on (where the clamp holds the exhaust) there is a silver looking (kind of rubber) ring. That I needed (according to KTM dealer) put on the SC-project slip-on in order to properly seal at the clamp part ... (I hope I kind off explained this OK, not sure what English words to use :P). For anyone installing the exhaust hopefully helpful.
No need to remove the cap.
Just wanted to say thanks for the great video! My gf was having the same issue on her 2013 Duke 390 and I was able to fix it by following your instructions and installing the LED headlight. Thanks mate, bloody legend!

What is the price of this bandsaw machine
$ 1,529 from Hare & Forbes.
Cool idea, but I see some caveats. You have investigated if your new light won't overheat inside. The aluminium part that it sits in, is a heat sink for the main lights. Now it is significantly heating up the heat sink. You might overheat the whole light assembly. I imagine it costs a small fortune. Not to mention, it could get you stranded in the dark, far away from home.
Had it for a while now. No issues. Definitely worth the extra light output.
Very informative video. Thank you, sir. BTW, does this Led needs an relay? TIA
Same circuit at the original bulb. Plug and play.
Where did you buy your tap set?
If your in Australia, it's from Bunnings. Local hardware supplier.
this is a single video on whole internet which provides solution to this problem!! nobody has even made video a on this! Thabks buddy for helping us out

Brilliant country. Years ago while working for the NT government I spent a lot of time travelling along the Duncan Road from the Victoria Hwy to the Buntine Hwy, then to Top Springs. That KTM of yours is a beast. 👏👏 I gave up riding road bikes over 2 years ago due to leg problems, love watching the video My son and daughter in law both have BMW GS1250s
Hmm. It seems I am completely missing the point. Not sure what improvement there is supposed to be from this mod, what actually has been modified and how it sounded before and after the mod. A drawing might help and also a before and after comparison of the sound would have helped (a proper one with unmodified SC Projects sound in between. It is nice though to see how not to do it in terms of the work steps. I am probably going with the Arrows exhaust now. Cheers.
You save me, thanks!

Took me a few looks to work it out, it was a few years ago. But I'm pretty sure it's the old throttle pump piston.

The real dilemma lays in how one decides between the 300 2T and 300 4T in this 2024 range 😰
depends what you need it for. Faster riding/tests 4t, slower riding/forest between trees 2t (but i would recommend 250)
@@madMX96I agree with the concept of the choice being riding style dependent, but I’m curious as to why you say 250? I ride 250 2T in hard enduro, but love riding my friends 300s for the luggability and grunt in the really tight or steep situations. I’m in the market for a 300, so I’m trying to weigh as many options as possible. 🤙🏼
The titanium valves are a concern . Depends where you want to spend most of your time riding. 1-3 gears 2t , 3 -6 4t obviously both bikes are very versatile and can do much of the same thing.
