    Really impressive work. My SAS 2019 has the same problem but only getting it to turn on and off. New batteries in the fob and bike but no difference. I sprayed a bit of WD 40 into the switch and pushed it in and out rapidly. It has sorted it for now. I have handle bar muffs so it never gets wet. Freezing cold spell before the trouble started. I will order a new switch when I can afford it but sorted for now. Wish I was as good as you at fixing my bike. Thanks for the best video on this problem.

    Great video thanks. I was in two minds about replacing my "race on" switch due to the cost. Mine's a 2019 bike, last month I was touring France from the UK so about 1000 miles from home, I went to power on the bike and there was nothing at all. I pulled all the fuses to check but all were OK, I replaced them and got power on. I was anxious the entire remainder of the trip. I was unsure about the true cause of the failure but suspect corrosion or dirt in the switch. Looks like for peace of mind I'll have to replace it. KTM dealers are aware of this so KTM will be also. At the very least they should supply the new switches at cost. 🤷‍♂️

    Great video explaining the function of each wire. From someone who has been stranded 1000km from home (and a 9 hour ferry trip) with a faulty switch, I'm guessing extracting the yellow and blue wires, touching them briefly together, should get you going again until you can locate another part?

    Not sure why KTM had to go keyless, it was never an inconvenience to use a key. I have a 2020 KTM 1290S that just failed in my driveway today, thank god close to home. Had that happened on my trip to the Arctic Circle where would I be? This is bullsh*t technology to be adding to adventure vehicles intended to go long distances into the bush. Thank you for showing the steps to replace, I better order mine up today. Cheers.

    Great video. KTM should be honest and recall this switch and replace at the dealership free of charge. With a better unit of course. My issue on a 2019 SDGT is similar but definitely not turning on and off as demonstrated in the video. Mine simply will not turn on. When finally on sometimes will not turn off. I was told by a KTM technician (because it actually happened at the dealership one time) is the computer is freezing up. And if worst comes to worst disconnect the batter and allow the computer to reboot. Well great KTM!! Now I have seen this switch problem I realize maybe that has been the issue all along. It has got to the point where I am no longer confident this motorcycle will power up at any time, at any place. There seems to be no common time, like first start up. I have stopped somewhere for lunch and I come out and nothing. It takes me 30 minutes to get the thing to power up. I don't even like this key fob start up crap. Give me a key anyday.....
    Contacting my dealer anyway, just to let them know I won't be buying a KTM again. Hopefully the message will get back to the factory and they will finally do something about it. This is obviously a major issue. There was even a motorcycle news journalist in the UK that was doing a long term test on a SDGT and had a similar problem. And he for stuck in the middle of nowhere. Bike would not power up. NOT GOOD KTM!! Gettin more pissed 😤

    There is a easy solution to your ktm 1290 switch its self on and off. Make sure the main key (the one with the battery in it) is far enough away from the bike so it cant be picked up by the race on button. Then using the key that doesn't have a battery, hold the key on the inside of the left hand panel, its marked where to hold the key and push the race on button.and it should be ok. It qorked for me when l had this problem

    • @mostlymotorcycles.
      @mostlymotorcycles. Před měsícem

      Yes that would work. Guess you could pull the battery from the keyless fob for the same effect. Didn't think of that at the time.

      @@mostlymotorcycles. I’ve tried everything, removed and disassembled the button, tried some relays, checked lines.everything seems to be dry and ok. It goes to the shop tomorrow, the main problem is that I have no warranty since it’s a 2017, I have up to 30k kilometers in it. I love the bike, lots of power and a beautiful ride way, but I guess I will move on to a Japanese one, those don’t have issues ever. Most of the problems I had with this bike have been electric. Reconnected everything and it started working fine, i guess some connectors or anything like that got wet. But so far it seems to be working perfectly. My 2018 SAR switch was changed on warranty last year after intermittent failures. First failure was electronic interference from cars in concrete parking garages. Then finally it failed several restarts after bike washes. It fired up eventually, but was deemed unreliable and my excellent KTM dealership swapped it on warranty since the electronic interference was duly reported to them within warrant. No worries since ;-)
