I think this is a fascinating perspective on the world. The idea of blending science and psychology to explain individualism as a human myth. I however cannot agree with all points, especially the political interpretation of it. What I think draws people to individualism is the idea that the state which is the physical representation of “other peoples will” intruding on yourself is what scares people. The whole vaccine denial is almost always cupelled with individualism and the idea that vaccines don’t work at some level. This is of course false, however individualism I find, is the literal manifestation of fear, which is often more justified then you’ll realise. The Peasants of Russia under Tsarism, especially after the growth of capitalism and the growth of literacy rates, were very terrified and hateful of the Tsar and noblemen. This is very justified, as they were perhaps the longest chain of oppressed people, with serfdom being while not as quiet horrific as chattel Slavery, lasted much more longer. Yet they were also very community centric. Forgive me for my ramblings, but the point is A weird dichotomy is found, where individualism is not tied to yourself, but a smaller and smaller “in group”. This is why I am inherently distrustful of both humanist, communist, fascist and environmentalist. I am a family member first, boyfriend next, co worker next ect ect. The more outward you project it, the less it resonates with me, the less it is tied to my sense of identity. I don’t think of myself as Australian White Straight Male, I see myself as friend, boyfriend, college student, co worker, family member. I don’t think of myself in a weird cosmological sense, because while that is technically true, there is no sense of belonging to something so different from myself. Perhaps it’s a coping mechanism, but it’s also a way of stopping nihilism from occurring, as if were all just different versions of quarks and electromagnetic pulses, and uniqueness is a human myth, then that means literally nothing matters.

rooting for all the guys seeking guidance and support. I know it's hard being a man in this time, where dynamics and expectations are changing rapidly. As long as we (women and men) remember to treat each other with love and respect, and give grace, we will be okay. There are a lot of unhealed people that are hurting and that are hurting others, we must not give in and we must be strong and try to heal ourselves. I had a lot of anger towards my father and other male figures in my life due to abuse and neglect. However, I work hard to heal and reframe my expectation. There are a lot of wonderful men/ women in the world. We have to give everyone the opportunity to show us the best of themselves. I will end my comment by requesting that we all hold each other accountable. Men, hold your friends accountable. Women, hold your friends accountable. We have to work together. Peace and Love.

Strangely enough the last line that itll happene 5 more times, makes me feel like this was necessary for me to learn about myself, and how to deal with loosing someone so close to you. Ik my capabilities of love, how much im willing to forget just so that the person i love can thrive. Ik it sounds silly, and perhaps thwres some denial, which ill see when things hurt less and it settles, but besides the mistakes i made that caused its end, there is a lot in me that makes me glad, my principles, my love, everything. Zizek's point is true as long as things we eat are manufactured. However we still have the option and freedom to mostly select what we eat or drink. A person can entirely start a new life in a rural area where every food is unprocessed and fresh, whereas we were left with no other choice than getting vaccinated and even in some cases only the biontech's vaccine was being accepted. Not getting vaccinated was not an option for many people who had careers or needed the money for survival. That isn't the same freedom of choice with what you're able to eat is it?

I think a great way of reimagining "ritual" is to look at what is being done globally which is meaningful, collective, and regular, and withiut need for a specific spiritual pov. Protests, housing rebellion squats, left spaces like pubs that regularly bring in good punk bands, deportation resistance, etc. Being dirrectly involved in these things help build a sense of collective and individual meaning. Especially things like housing rebellion squatting, as that requires really being in community. Working through issues, giving space, etc.

I mean, I don't think we should be completely merged together, but I do agree that it is important to learn how to be part of a society rather than being part of just yourself. You can't fill yourself with the love of others unless you know how to give it as well. And as for someone like myself, I only have so much of a social battery. I don't think I could function well if I was constantly living in majorly communal spaces.

It's crazy to me how people don't see the various forms of collectivism being hijacked for individualist gains, and not seeing the collectivism within their own biology that functions to make them live and breathe another day. Imagine if humans, with respect to individualism and peoples uniqueness, utilized collectivism for the benefit of everyone.

I agree that it is ultimately the way forward but I am not nearly optimistic enough to think that it will come quickly nor do i think we should try to bring it about quickly. Every hasty social change humans have made end in disastrous loss of life. Capitalism has work so well because it mirrors nature and competitive survival. This has been the system at play for over a billion years. It would be hugely naive to think we can switch to an egalitarian way of life inside of even a few thousand years.

Reality is not enough. Our objective ideals of the world only lead us through segnos of exile. The agricultural revolution exiled us from nature. The industrial revolution exiled us from our families and communities. The technological revolution exiled us even further from each other and is even distancing us from our own relationships to the world and how we perceive ourselves. The AI/VR revolution will exile us from sanity and reality altogether. This is the premise of "Vitruvia 144". I recommend anyone with concerns for the future and an interest in complex philosophical ideas give it a read, as it goes deep into what it means to be an individual human being with respect to humanity at large.
