Sadly, the Louvre from a tourists perspective is one of the worst museums I have ever visited. Apart from the horrendous queues and high cost of entry, the rooms are very poorly laid out and suffer from quantity over quality. Yes, there are a few really fabulous pieces but it is pretty well impossible to get to be able to stand, admire and enjoy without subjected to nudges, and cameras thrust in a gap to ruin what enjoyment might be drawn. The best museum by a country mile is the National Gallery in London followed by the Prado Museum in Madrid, Ufizi in Florence. The Louvre was not good in the 1970's, was refreshingly disappointing in the 1980's and a full 40 years later remains a poor choice for tourists. Sorry if this seems disappointing comment. Spread the contents over 5 venues and it would be better.

The ground floor room would have been a street level cantina for storing oil, wine, etc and doing some cooking. Yes the cement painted tiles are lovely. I have the same in Marseille. You see a lot of these carreaux ciments in France, Spain, Italy ❤

Re: renting part of the house out: many people looking for a house in Italy need an address to stay in for a few months while they look around for a suitable property. Maybe worth looking into that. Super pleased for you.

I got lucky, Mike. I watch Italy videos obviously and CZcams algorithms pushed a channel that just talks about their new Italian experience and they just happened to have a neighbor wanting to sell and he agreed to do a walk thru video, no commission, no realtor. His Channel has normally about 200 views. My jaw dropped at midnight and I did some checking on Google maps, etc and flew off an email and followed that up with a 20 minute phone call the next day and got it.

You answered your own question, place is to big for you, and you will be spending money on it if you bought it, look for something smaller that is cheaper and you can renovate.

Love the location and that it is private with the courtyard and garage. The house is a little weird as far as layout, but could be made into a beautiful home.

House is Beautiful, You need to add a bit of money on top to renovate the house. Just check sun orientation, facing south is the best.

My husband and I are looking to buy a home in Italy to retire in. We went for our first time in the summer of 2023 and have been looking for homes ever since! Our retirement date is 7 years away so keeping our fingers crossed for our dream home! Congratulations!

What site are you using to search? Love that first one with frescos. And then the second one is large with 2 baths. Both great value at 48k Euros. Did you film from Italy or US? Beautiful surrounding landscape!

I went on a cycling tour through the piedmont area and tasted all the great wine and went on a truffle hunt. I have been searching for a place too and am attracted to that area because of its beauty but also thinking it may be cooler in the summer.

Sounds opposite of what I hear about southern Italy because the south is known for being agricultural.

Mike, happy you found a great place that checks many boxes. We did to, although we are west of Naples. Bullet train from Naples to Milan will get us there at 300KM per hour and then we can rail it to other parts of Europe. Our plans are rail, not bike, so I think will work for us. Best wishes !

I am curious about the Piedmonte. I have cousin there who actually build homes. I assumed I would prefer the south assuming it was warmer, but I have seen droughts that have me rethinking retirement. Do you like this climate better?

Here’s the thing I know that people are saying not worth 100 K and I’m sure in Italian standards. I’ve been looking at a lot of videos too. That’s probably true but coming from the San Francisco Bay area then living in Marin county the thought of even hearing anything for 100 K that’s what people pay out here for cars.😂😂😂😂

I’m a caretaker to my elderly mother so at some point, but thanks for sharing all of your information. that’s helpful and congratulations, also I was pretty set on Tuscany but being a native from San Francisco California I’m also a cheese and wine girl myself so interesting to hear that perspective of course if I was not looking at up coastal town, I know the cuisine would be more but I like the idea of being central as well thanks for sharing your perspective.

Thanks for all the information, Mike! Isn't the geometra also the person who would evaluate the structure for stability, similar to what a property inspection would be in the States? Is it possible to get that done for a property in advance of making an offer? Here, that's a prerequisite during the offer stage when you can request repairs, etc. I'm curious about that process.

Why not renting out the 2nd apartment permanently? There will be someone to look after the house when you are absent.

Hey Mike, I can confirm your comments. It matches our experience so far. We are in the process of purchasing in MOSSO, Piedmont. Notary closing also in September. We love the Piedmont area, and Mosso is a very affordable area in the mountains.
