The 3rd act is everything! Vader tearing through everyone was terrifying and strangely emotional for me

It's funny, as children we wanted to be like the Elves or warriors like Aragorn or Boromir, but as adults, we'd like to be like the Hobbits.

You HAVE to watch the Family Guy spoof of each original movie. HILLARIOUS and you can tell it was made with love. I honestly never laughted so hard.

Hells yes, great reaction.. I also felt the need and went home and popped in the DVD of A New Hope! I picks up straight away! (Also puts a new perspective on Vader's frustration at the start!) GO WATCH ANDOR! It is the best star wars media out there right now.

Proven time and time again. No way for me to remain composed when Sam says, "I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you!" and when Aragorn says, "My friends, you bow to no one." Scientifically, empirically, spiritually, fucking martianally and any other type of -ally there is or ever ought be...

The locations, like Rivendell were not CGI. If it was too grand to build a full sized set of, the would build a scale miniature of it (the miniatures were so large that they called them "bigatures") and drop it in the background of a bluescreen set. They would increase the realism of the models by digitally adding birds, leaves in the wind, extras walking, etc. Made everything seem more alive, and definitely beats CGI. They used as little CGI as possible for these movies. Obviously they used some, but only if they felt they couldn't achieve the shot otherwise.

@27:00 That’s when Anakin became Darth Vader. The biomechanical suit he wears after his fight with Obi-Wan is necessary to keep him alive and ultimately helps make him into the Darth Vader we all know from the original trilogy.

Have to say - I love how you're being so sympathetic to Boromir and Denethor (at least initially) ..

Seeing the Vader reveal was an absolute life changer for me. I still vividly remember, I was six in my Virginia home and begrudgingly watching A New Hope and now Empire, and we get to that moment. And I want to say my jaw was on the floor with that reveal. I turned to my parents and just started babbling "He's lying, right?!!! He's got to be lying!!!!" I couldn't comprehend it I want to say that was the first time that it ever dawned on me that the good guy could have a connection to the bad guy and that things weren't so black and white. It kind of made me realize just how powerful storytelling could be that it could make that much of an impact on someone. 20 something years later, Star Wars is my favorite franchise and has inspired me to write my own stories (or try to at least; do or do not I guess)

For context, the stormtroopers are not clones. Without spoiling anything the Empire decided to stop using clones after a while and start recruiting instead cause it was cheaper. Clone troopers have a long history in Star Wars and it's been established in subsequent material that they are more capable and effective than stormtroopers who are basic foot soldiers. It's never explored in the movies, but the clones are some of the most interesting characters in the modern Star Wars franchise

An interesting fact- In the scene where the Uruk-Hai throws Aragorn's dagger at him that dagger was real! The actor was supposed to throw it far to Aragorn's left and a separate scene with him throwing a rubber dagger at Aragorn would be inserted in post production. When the Actor threw the real dagger towards Aragorn , the forehead piece of his makeup/costume slipped over his' eyes and he threw it directly at Viggo! Viggo actually blocked it with his sword.! Peter Jackson was so impressed that they never filmed the rubber dagger scene and used the actual take!

16:30 One of my only complaints in regards to the movies is Denethor sort of gets painted as a villain, when the truth of it is he was just as principled of a man as either of his son's. But he has spent his life using his kingdom as the last real bulwark against Mordor like his own forefathers before him. Worst still, he has tried to use a Palantir to attain intel on Sauron. In the end he was a better soul than Saruman, for instead of being corrupted into betraying the free folk of Middle-Earth he instead fell into despair.

@17:02 That guy’s hairdo has always made me chuckle. It’s an attempt at covering up his balding head by growing the remaining hair out and combing it forward. The result appears pretty odd.

The one thing that impressed me about Ian McDiarmid is that sixteen, nineteen, and twenty-two years after this movie, he was able to duplicate Emperor Palpatine’s voice, his vocal inflections, and his laugh.

The only Disney Star Wars movie I think is actually good. The sequels are garbage compared to this.

This is the best reaction I've seen of this movie. You obviously paid attention to all the previous films. Not many have recognized Tarkin or Mon Mothma. Also, few, if any, have remembered the discussion of the rebels that gave their l8ves to get the plans.

It's rare to see a reactor so perceptive who picks up on so many things. What a good reaction, well gone!

Some people argue about who was most important. Frodo or Sam. In the end it's not about a 1a and 1b... it's about 1+1=2.

If you liked Rogue One - you need to watch Andor. You see the start of the rebellion from the street level. No Force, no Skywalkers, no lightsabers. But it's really well dome IMO. Some found it a bit boring, but I like a slow burn. It's something you need to pay attention to.

The problem I had with this movie is there was no tension, and no stakes, since we already know from the outset they succeed.

Between this one and Empire, its the top tier favorites among fans.

Every time I see those scenes of Boromir at the end and what he says to Aragorn... I always tear up. Probably now... the 100th time more than I even did the first time. It's so well acted and such a good portrayal of good. Honor and courage that Boromir was talking about.

So I have seen some reactors comment on how strange it was that Gimli wouldn't know that his cousin and all his kin were dead. You didn't and I appreciate that but it's helpful still to explain for anyone that doesn't know. Dwarves live a fairly long time 200-300 years and there was no text messaging in this world back then lol. So yeah. You could be away from your cousins for 20-30 years and have it feel like it was only 5 human years etc. All the dwarves could die and decompose before Gimli would find them and it's totally believable once you know more about the lives of the dwarves.

A few things: you are a pretty good guesser as the story moves along but it IS a complex tale and inevitably, some things will get away from anyone. Reading the book the reader has the benefit of detailed maps. They would be helpful watching the movie too. The One Ring is incredibly toxic and attacks the spirit, heart & soul of a person. A wearer is most strongly affected, then a bearer, and lastly those in proximity to it. It is consuming evil! The brief time Sam had and wore the Ring damaged him, albeit in proportion to the time he had it and his intentions. The Powers that ruled the world granted all the Ring Bearers extraordinary leave to go to Eldamar, the Island of the Noldor in the bay of Valinor in the undying West (I know, lots of words; immortal places where mankind is forbidden, where elves and beings like Gandalf in their unencumbered form dwell). Although said in passing the bearers of the Three Rings were leaving on that ship: Elrond, Galadriel and Gandalf. With the destruction of the One Ring they became powerless. I’m not sure if you are a reader but if so the book is well worth your time. It is beautifully written and-the Jackson movies are interpretations of Tolkien’s books. Very good interpretations but nevertheless. There are changes from the original, scenes removed-whole chapters, some quite significant. Some additions that are… well, not pleasing to Tolkien purists. Anyway. Last thing, and this is somewhat controversial, there was a short epilogue that was supposed to be included with the book. It was yanked at the last minute because the ending as shown was so powerful and poignant and Tolkien’s circle of advisers strongly advised so to do. But Tolkien later regretted doing so-though he felt it was too late to simply drop it in to later editions. I strongly come down on the pro epilogue side of the argument. It takes place seven years (I believe) in the future and involves a quiet conversation between Sam and his eldest about the then state if things as King Ellesar has invited them all to visit during his first trip to the North kingdom in Arnor. It provides a kind of homey symmetry with the opening of the story at Bag End with a touch of Tolkien magic I won’t try yo describe. It can be found in a later volume of The History of Middle Earth “Sauron Defeated” (there are three versions-the third & shortest is the one to read). Obviously, Jackson chose not to film or use it…
