    Hello I have a question I have a rise garden 3 tier. A few of the plants in there have brown slimy roots and most of the plants have healthy ones. I took the plants out that have brown roots washed them trimmed them and soaked it in hydrogen peroxide and put back in the garden. I bought hydroguard which I will use with my next water change I don’t think I can shut down the whole garden and do a deep clean without starting my plants I’ll over again. Some of the plants that have brown roots also appear to be healthy. Any suggestions? I’m hoping I won’t have to shit dork the system and throw my plants away 😢and start all the way over. Crossing my fingers the hydroguard works

    Hi Anna, great video, lots of good information. Have you ever tried air layering any plants? I just cut up a leggy fiddle leaf fig - I put them all in water and have a good success rate (so far). I also tried air layering on one branch..not sure if it'll work. I also bought Leca balls to use as a planting medium instead of soil. Have you tried using Leca after propagating in water? The thing with that is it's less messy than using soil. Anyway, I'd appreciate any tips you can pass on about air layering or Leca. Thanks again for a the great video. 👍

    Hello, thanks for the video I didn’t do the stratification method and I only got 30 to germinate at of a McKenzie pack. Next time cold time for them. I have a question please: Now that I got the seeds to germinate, I have them in clear plastic container sealed, should I removed the lid and keep in a room with indirect sunlight until they form their set of leaves? Please let me know.

    • @BrightLaneGardens
      @BrightLaneGardens Před 13 dny

      I was able to get them to germinate with cold stratification and without. However my cold stratified batch germinated faster and more consistently, and I had more of my cold stratified seedlings survive! The cold strat period is short, can even be as little as 10-14 days. In my opinion, it's worth the extra step!

    Noooooo. Not spiderwort. That stuff spreads like a virus. I worked at a native prairie plant greenhouse and it was out of control. It looks like crap in the landscape once it's done flowering, too.

    • @BrightLaneGardens
      @BrightLaneGardens Před 13 dny

      I’ve definitely heard people share similar views on spiderwort, and it does spread easily! Some people are looking for this type of growth to fill out a large area. I personally like the look of its foliage even after blooming. But I know everyone has their own preferences

    For the fridge trick what I do is to use just the paper towel, only moist enough to feel wet but not damp, put the seeds on top, and carefully use a spatula or something to put the seeds inside the bag so that they are resting flat on the paper. I will be able to see through the bag if any seeds start to germinate. In that way I don't have to be constantly opening the bag or guessing. Just be careful to put them in some fridge drawer or somewhere where they can remain flat and with east access to check. You don't want to be disturbing the bag when you move items from or into the fridge.

    • @BrightLaneGardens
      @BrightLaneGardens Před 13 dny

      That's a great idea, I do feel like I disturb the seeds when I need to check for germination. I'll try this out next time!

I wish i had as much room as you for my garden, so far i have 6 total beds i believe they're 2x4x12" and 3x6x12" going to be buying what i need to fill them tomorrow but gonna have to wait till the weekend to be doing it (it's been over 40c this week) way too hot... I will be doing like you and mulching because I'm just north of you across the pond (Canada) and we do have some scorching days! Thank you as always for the great videos, you look fantastic as always ❤

      Hahah I appreciate the shoutout for the intro- I’ve been trying to get a little more creative with the videos! We’re so fortunate to have acreage up here, we’re further out from any main town but totally worth it for extra land and privacy. We’re sharing in the toasty weather, it hit 87 today! I was worried the metal raised beds would scorch the plants, but they’ve done a good job with managing the heat! Fortunately cooler temps ahead next week. Thanks for tuning in!

      @exploringgames948 Před 16 dny

      @BrightLaneGardens I like the silly style intro you made 😊 Yeah same I also worry the beds will get ridiculously hot! Here it was somewhere above 90-95 American degrees so yeah we definitely share the heat specially with "very high UV" today oof... 🥵 I need to add more shade cloth too and unfortunately had some rascals dig up all my tomato plants but my peppers are fine still sucks though 😭

    Great video! I chose not to line the bottom of my raised bed as my yard has a bazillion nightcrawlers, and I wanted them to access my raised bed (they found it quickly). HOWEVER...the soil level has dropped nearly 6 inches in only 3 months. I haven't noticed any leakage around the bottom. I think it is all due to settling. My 3.5' x 6.5' x 17" raised bed took 30 1cuft bags of raised bed mix after filling the bottom with 6" of branches, twigs, leaves and other yard debris!! I anticipate having to add another 12 -15 bags next season. Even with Hügelkultur, it has been pricey to fill. This is my first ever vegetable garden. Live and learn, right??

    • @BrightLaneGardens
      @BrightLaneGardens Před 18 dny

      I was sooo hesitant to do the weed fabric at the bottom! I like to let nature do its thing when it comes to soil health. But with the investment in the mulched area we really wanted to keep everything tidy. I am hoping a few insects were already living in the debris that will come out to play :) I was BLOWN AWAY by how much material it took to fill these! I had 5 of the deep ones and 2 shallow ones. So many wagon trips! At least we only have to do this once, right?

    You don't have any concerns about handling dry rockwool without any gloves or mouth cover?

    • @BrightLaneGardens
      @BrightLaneGardens Před 18 dny

      My husband said the same thing, he has worked with rockwool in building projects and always wore protection. I never have with the cubes (ignorance at first, then just doing the usual process) but I am fortunate to have never broken out on my skin! I’m always (always) careful about what I inhale when working with plants. Perlite, potting soil, fertilizer etc can all have adverse effects when inhaled. Moisture is your friend in this case! The wet rockwool cubes will not release debris into the air, at least significantly less than dry material. But plenty of people use full protection with this material and that’s the best approach when it comes to safety! Follow me for my gardening tips, but probably not my safety tips 😉

    • @BrightLaneGardens

      Yes! Most herbaceous perennials can be propagated with cuttings. Take 4-5” cuttings, remove the bottom 2/3 of leaves, dip in a rooting hormone and put into potting soil! Expect around a 50% success rate, so take a lot of cuttings :)

    Why did you choose Vegega (curious, not criticizing your choice)? They seem very similar to Vego, but with fewer screw holes. Vego makes good beds, but their shipping is pathetically slow to leave the warehouse for in-stock items. How is Vegega's shipping? THANKS for this video!!

      Great question! To be honest vegega got me with their Instagram ads! I liked the look of them and I had only worked with heavy cedar raised beds in the past, so I just thought the thinner, sleek design would be a good change for my new garden area. I noticed there were some very similar competitors but I ordered through the one ad. Overall I was actually pretty impressed with the quality!
