Eames in 90 Seconds: Revell Toy House
In 1959, Charles and Ray #Eames designed a 3/4th-inch scale model house for Revell Company, a toy manufacturer. Unfortunately, the prototype, known as the Revell Toy House, never made it to market, though it did become a helpful tool for Herman Miller.

Time Magazine branded the Eames LCW “The Chair of the Century,” and this year marks the 75th anniversary of the chair’s existence. Despite seeming superbly contemporary, one may not realize that today’s highly-coveted LCW has close ties with the end of WWII and that its legacy flourished from an early partnership with Herman Miller. Let’s explore the early moments of the LCW’s history, beginnin...

It reads philosophically. Read more about this connection in our ...

Released to children across the country in 1951, The Toy was neatly packaged in a hexagonal tube. There is a misconception about Charles and Ray Eames: they spent a great deal of time entertaining, socializing, and traveling. This idea isn’t necessarily true because they spent most of their time working. If they traveled, it was often for business. Their friends were naturally curious and ambitious people-other designers, filmmakers, artists, and architects-who they sometimes collaborated w...

    ERATOSTHENES ERROR! In his famous experiment he actually proved the distance from the Earth to the Sun and not a circumference. Why? -Eratosthenes started from the ''premise'' of parallel shadows arriving from the Sun to any point on Earth and the accepted format of a Earth globe to calculate a circumference. He didn’t prove a globe, curvature or parallel ray. So in a new trigonometric calculation starting from lands without curvature as proven in the video CONVEX EARTH THE DOCUMENTARY / CONVEX EARTH TECHNICAL DATA / Youbube channel Convex Earth /, and using data from Eratosthenes' experiment we have the following data: -The opposite side is the distance between point A and B (between the well and the rod) without curvature; The hypotenuse is the result of the angle 37.8° (45° - 7.2 of the stick's shadow); And the right angle (from the water well) completes the trigonometric calculation data. As a result we have the adjacent side which is the distance from the Sun, and is approximately 6,370 km, which interestingly would be the radius in the theory of the globe. The sun smaller than the Earth and very close explains the difference in shadows and time zones. In academic system the distance and the size of the sun have changed several times since Eratosthenes, but still there is no way for us to verify it in practice. It is another topic that requires faith, belief in what the education system says. Conclusion: Using as a premise the scientific field experiments on the absence of curvature on the Eareth, Eratosthenes actually proved the distance from the Earth to the Sun.

    1977. No computerized images nor sounds. The budget was barely. Yet... "Powers of Ten" captivated me as a young college student, when I first saw it.... It was the forerunner to the amazing journeys created today by computerized imaging. (Today's "Epic Spaceman" shows just one series of many shining examples.) All I can say is..... Hold your breath. Wait for tomorrow.

    • @CliffSedge-nu5fv
      @CliffSedge-nu5fv Před 17 dny

      Quarks and gluons. Electrons are thousands of times smaller still, at a scale where distance no longer makes sense. Neutrinos are even smaller. If an atomic nucleus is about 10^-14 m, a proton would be about a tenth of that, and the quarks inside protons and neutrons could be a tenth or a hundredth the size of a proton, 10^-16? 10^-17 meters? Like electrons, quarks are so small that size doesn't really mean anything anymore. Maybe 10^-18 m is the scale of more fundamental parts, but that is shorter than the wavelength of even the highest energy gamma rays, so who knows if we can practically measure anything that small.

    The glow of these images is beautiful-there’s nothing quite like slide film. This goes out of its way to show that modern architecture doesn’t have to be sterile. The focus is the beauty of the natural environment and the occupants’ vibrant lives. Love how it compares the similar textures of the ceiling & pleated curtains. This vid has more imagery of the elusive upstairs than anything else I’ve seen. Clever that the closets don’t go all the way to the ceiling-much like the closet downstairs. I’d still like to see how they handled the transition where the bathtub meets the exterior panel wall. There’s a phone number visible at 8:03…EXbrook 31150. Definitely a different era when you wouldn’t show your bathroom, but your phone number was totally fine. I love how well preserved the house is compared to 1955. It’s 75 years old, but still timeless
