Patriarchy is contaminating Romance novels
Patriarchy contaminates everything and that includes Romance novels written by feminist, female authors.
Men are constantly treated as the default when it comes to who holds power in these stories. That does make sense, since male power is still the default in the world at large.
But it wasn't always that way and it doesn't have to stay that way. I'm trying to do my part to write Romances that balance things out.

Rafal from Rise/Fall of the SGE...
it still is gender neutral in contexts where specifying gender wouldn't make sense, also in very formal contexts. but people will always choose to forgo reasoning if they have a chance to get angry at nothing. ignorance also doesn't help.
You admit that language is formed by the present day usage, yet you encourage people not to go back to the gender neutrality of old. You give off easily offended vibes yet you want to keep our language on the trend of polarization? Do you WANT to create problems?
"Woodsy" is one of the most common smells I've read for male romance leads
there is no reason to pretend the people in the past were sexist. that is a driving factor for modifying the language, pretend the old people were jerks.
Like i normally go for a sweet, nerdy, weirdo (but in a good way ) type of guy. But when i read twisted love my heart was stolen by alex volkov. If he was a real life person and if i was ava. And if he says u belong to me i would be like f*ck u i don't belong to anyone than me. But that doesnt stop him from being my number 1 book bf so far
Yep that is exactly how it feels
Rorschach from the Watchmen...
LOtR is just christian anti-modern fan fiction
You know that in all the Lord of the Rings movies there is only ONE sentence spoken by a woman to a woman? And it is the mother's attention to the child
Amen 🙏
DEI...run my fellow MEN.
Does it count if one of them is royal and the other one overthrew their kingdom
or you use man for humans :D instead of the male version men
In other news, Wheel of Time is one of the most excellent fantasy series every written.
Weregild is also used in Tolkien.
interesting but useless knowledge in the era of skibidi sigma
I wish we still used Wereman, maybe analogized like woman from Wifman to something like Erman, Urman or Arman. We could have Where-men (male), Why-men (female), and Who-men (human) lol I was planning a conlanging project where human roots could be masculine, feminine, or neuter and there's a set or few sets of affixes for changing the word's gender. Some words might have multiple roots with the same underlying meaning but different base gender, although they could behave the same way. Context might determine if using an affixed form is appropriate or if a root form is more appropriate.
Please I need hades book recommendations! I’ve recently caught up to the physical release of Lore Olympus and I’m craving more (and no I don’t want to look at the web comic because I like physical books and want to support the artist)
average westoid problems🤣🤣
You think that's bad, his only female character who defies tradition, Eowyn, finds happiness by accepting tradition and becoming a housewife. Don't get me started on his stupid catholic religious beliefs. The whole part about the creation of Arda, the nature of Evil and free will comes straight from the Bible and it makes no goddamn sense.
What would you call a female lycanthrope?
Harry Potter and the sorcerer's stone ❤❤
It's was my birthday too and I can't buy your work. Because I'm in France. I'm legit a little upset about that
Spoiler alert where!?
Men works.
Honestly in some contexts it's still pretty common to use men neutrally
Lol relatable
This is why i read goofy god comics on webtoon So cuteee❤❤❤
Men/man is still a gender neutral term when referring to humanity or a group of individuals with mix genders. It only becomes a problem when a person has an irrational hatred towards males.
I think as long as at least one you say "race of men" or something like that, I think it's clear what men is meaning and can still be used. It's not that big of a deal
Hince why smart people will always know what other smart people are saying depending on the context. 😂
Well I’m too late but happy birthday!
Most people understand the context when you use "men" in a gender-neutral way. It has nothing to do with sexual gender or grouping male individuals. So when you say "most people assume," you're only talking about your conception. It is much more inefficient and segregating to say "men and women" when referring to the entire group of humans.
Isn't this the same thing that Skagged Kingdom of Heaven when it released in Cinema?
If someone tells me after listing all that tropes that it's my kind of book, I would consider it an insult
Ohh Tolkien this has to be fu... oh no!
Most people don’t assume that, certain kinds of people do. I get where it’s coming from as a woman, but male nouns being gender neutral has been a thing forever and it’s used everywhere. There isn’t really a point in changing it because the only people who want that hate men for some reason
Am I really the only weirdo with a lizard hindbrain that smells my hubby's natural skin-scent with maybe a hint of fresh sweat and goes: "oooh sexy musky manliman"? I swear some parfumes just make my nose itch.
Sorry Hades. You’re an amazing god and all, but we love Cerberus more.
Consider Lady Wu, who became the Empress of China.
I like using guy as a gender neutral term(there aren't many good ways to address a group of people casually) so I don't think using men as a gender neutral term is that weird, especially since there's clear evidence it was used as a gender neutral term for decades, it's kinda like some people saying that they/them can't be used to talk about one person even though it's been used that way for a long time, some people just can't understand that language can work like that, and it's kinda annoying, but eh, nothing I can do about it other then try to explain ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I want to see the puppy! I want to see the doggies!
THANK YOU! The whole 'using men is misogynist' is such a stupid argument and I've had to correct so many dumb people on it! The world is not misogynist your just dumb
Wereman: once a month, i get to be a man with my wife.
Wait, holy shit, Wifwolves!
I appreciate the clear and nonjudgmental explanation of history! 😊💛
In this day and age. Language isn't evolving is degrading. Thanks to potato brain idiots thinking they can make whole new meanings to words to make them feel relevant in their empty lives.
What about mankind?
i often underline them as a little mark of pride for noticing it
