Ah! That thought is terrifying, honestly. It's nearly fifteen years worth of ideas/content/world building. I have solid stories written out, but just as much in odd documents and maps. I wouldn't even know where to begin organizing. One project I've been working on for the last 6 years. There's around eleven stories for that world alone. 😵‍💫

@@k92littlered That sounds like my mom's work. She has 20+ years of notebooks full of stories, characters, and world building. I have gotten to read a ton of her writing and my aunt works with her to create paintings for each characters and honestly it's incredible. It is was inspired me to start writing my stories. Hopefully she and my aunt will be able to get their stories out there because it is definitely worth it. Though her biggest advice to me always is: "Write the story you want to read yourself, if others read it fantastic, but you write it for you."

Great advice. While not religious or however you want to put it. I agree showing gratitude towards others who have greater success helps to keep you grounded and appreciative. Instead of self comparing and jealous.
I'm reminded of a comment from Jim Butcher, urban fantasy author, who was asked if authors are jealous of each other. He made a joke about Brandon Sanderson taking the fantasy genre by storm. But, then stated how important having more authors actually helps increased their own popularity. Which is very true. He was the reason I got into urban fantasy and found many new and wonderful authors within that genre. There's room for everyone.

Accurate. I'm full on an atheist and immediately thought of switching it from prayer to good thoughts. Positive feelings. If you're hoping for the best for these people, no matter what form that takes, it should do about the same for you.

I'm not a published author, but I AM someone who is consistently writing on a regular basis now! I couldn't seem to stay committed before. The main thing that has helped me do that is to decide I'm a writer, whether it's ever published, whether I ever make a dime. I enjoy doing it, so I'm doing it. When I get closer to being finished, I will probably start worrying more about whether or not I can get it published, but being published and getting paid isn't what makes you a writer, although it helps you be in a place where you can afford to spend more time writing.

Thank you so much for this video! I have only recently found you and your channel, and I gotta say you are a big inspiration! My roommate and I are finishing reading a cozy mystery series and we were inspired to write our own- mostly for our own enjoyment. I struggle heavily with imposter syndrome and perfectionism and have a hard time sitting down to write without those voices yelling at me to stop. But my roommate and my best friends (half of which are creators of written works themselves) have been very supportive and I’ve been feeling more encouraged to write. THIS video is exactly what I needed. I’m going to be checking out and sharing these resources you mentioned. Gail Levine is one of my favorite authors! Thank you again! ❤

I loved the advice, thank you so much! Also, I find the idea of blessing people who have already achieved what we want absolutely delightful! They forged their paths and serve as inspiration, it's only fair to wish them well! And yes, jealousy can be tricky, but there's nothing negative that gratitude (particularly in the form of blessings!) can't help dissolve in our hearts!

I can really second the advice about blessing what you want. I was quite arrogant after primary school. I was constantly bullied so I ghink it was a self defense mechanism. But after the bullying stopped and I started to make friends my arrogance was detrimental. So at some point I started to look for the good in people, for their skills and talents and for the things I find beautiful about them, thd things I love, admire and/or appreciate. I make it a point to tell people these things. I'm the person who compliments people on public transport about their outfits and vibes. I do this to remind myself how wonderful my fellow humans have been created and how talented they are. I tell them to encourage hhem to see themselves in that way. It has made my life so much better. I'm grateful and happy for what I have and I marvel at others. It has helped me with feelings of jealousy and being inadequate. I absolutely recommend being happy for the blessings of others. It makes your own blesskngs so much better.

I'm not sure why the third piece of advice wouldn't apply to non-spiritual people.
Training your mind to admire rather than covet and focusing on positive feelings toward others who are more successful in the same field seems like a universally good thing. Prayer might be your way of putting your mind in that place, but it's not the only one.

Sometimes the good ol' fashioned "Star Trek" phrase "Live long and prosper" works as something of a 'blessing', if the idea of the word 'pray' makes some people's skin crawl. I switch between that and "May the Force be with you" just because my perception of spiritual reality is different than most, and I try not to start unnecessary comment wars. 😅

I think prayer, whether religious or not, can still be helpful. Because the whole point is you are focusing on positive thoughts, and I wholly believe that finding a direction to focus a positive mindset is helpful. It's why I like charms and the like. It's because I can look at it a remind myself to look at things a different way. And finding joy and wishing someone else happiness and success is a fulfilling feeling and rather than jealousy, for me at least, it gives motivation to strive for that same happiness and success.

I'm not particularly successful, and I only answer writing questions on Quora, and it's usually Socratic in nature. Asking questions about how the poster feels about their story and the particular issue. I blame my occasional writing class. And that my most successful project was my thesis for my last degree. I basically passed my submission and orals with only a couple of typos to correct. But I'm certainly not doing anything big ... oh, well, I do have a couple of fan fic stories that are continuing well received ... but that only really qualifies me to have opinions on fan fiction ... whole different kettle of fish. Good presentation.

I like to think that writers are generally great readers who love to read a lot. So, more people writing is more people reading and buying books (I have this wild dream where everyone would be a writer and the economy would be sustained by people buying books from each other lol). Besides this, I like how everyone's voice/style is unique or there wouldn't be creativity. So I think that there is room for everyone in the art's field.

I have written several short novels over the past 10 years. I can’t get past the publishing hurtle. I think I’m just too picky? I hate the idea of going standard publishing because I don’t want someone else to have control over presentation and I’m afraid of having my books changed too much from what I want them to be, but on the flip side I don’t even purchase off of Amazon myself so I don’t think my target audience exactly would either of I were to self publish there. I think I might be unpublishable to be honest, probably because I still can’t figure out what I want from a publisher or publishing platform.

I think one of the most anxiety-producing ideas about being a published writer is being known, being out there. It's why I'm strongly considering a pen name. Especially as I plan on having a decent modicum of spice in some of my writing. In fact, one of my most recent story ideas popped in my head as I was watching one of your shorts on spicy books.
I think a pen name would protect my privacy to some degree for another gut-wrenching reason: I am not a huge fan of the idea of scheduled book signings. I'm too empathic for that, trust me. I soak up energy like a sponge.
And it bugs me when fans clamor -- nearly demand -- for newly published authors to do book tours. I'm like "Do you even have a stinking clue how much psychic and emotional energy it takes to produce **anything** decently readable, even to show a potential beta reader? Back the eff off and let these new authors have a recovery period already!" 🙄
Soooo, maybe, in some of your short videos, you might address these points. Because honestly, I am curious about how you have handled this matter. 😅
