I was there in front of trumpet section. I missed 1972 Japan tour. But in 2012, I could join this. 🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺と
I used to love hearing Santo Savino on PBS's Jazz at the Four Queens from Las Vegas. And was so pleased to eventually hear him live with Carl Saunders. Got to know him a bit, too. He remains one of my favorite drummers!
Rest in peace Carl and Dave <3
I have been right there at his house in Venice Beach California around 1979. He used to play on Sunday's at the Jockey Club in Marina Del Rey and nis band was unreal! He had so many great musicians in his band and I had never heard anything like it then, or since then! I'm very proud to say that Ollie invited me to work with his band out front singing at the "Beverly Hills Hotel" for a private event. I spoke to him when he was 84 and living in Hawaii. I understand he passed away a short time later. RIP Ollie Mitchell you were an inspiration and a real character to be around. God Bless!
I was there. Carl told me about the gig and drove all the way from Anaheim. Now that Carl has passed away, this is nothing but a good memory of him. It was a great gig, btw.
Wonderful 🎁 to ALL. Eternally..Vaughn 🎺
Saunders is a great talent that never received the notoriety he should have. Very well known amongst musicians for his immense abilities, but not so much amongst the public. He may rub some people the wrong way, but there is no denying his abundant talent.
Bobby's time is impeccable! Love how he throws the emPHAsis of the phrase on his solo break that the drummer was even caught off guard!
The 'drummer' was Carl Saunders, I noticed. Right before he switched with Bobby Shew..
What. A. Bellend
I didn’t know Uan took over Rafael Mendez’s spot.
So this is they guy they named the mouthpiece after
Nothing wrong with knowing your good and telling it like it is!
Who is the trumpet soloist? Not Uan???
How come the best musicians come from Los Angeles?? huh, tell me!
The Greatest!

Carl has all the talent in the world, which is probably a detriment to him. Every solo he takes sounds like an etude. Run-on sentence after run-on sentence. Bobby plays actual phrases and melodies; Carl just flails.
At one point it sounds like the flight of the bumblebee
Nice!
My favorite part was thinking back on all the private trumpet teachers I had who yelled at me for fingering valves as Carl Saunders does - telling me if I had my fingers out straight, didn't play with my fingers arched with my finger pads on the buttons, I'd never have good technique. Well I can now tell them - BLOW ME!
I had a fellow student who was told to stand up straight while playing. He replied to the teacher: "Miles Davis plays like this too!" Teacher replied: "The day you can play like Miles, you can stand however you like. Untill then, u will stand up straight."
This description didn't age well
thats quite unfortunate
I was at Anacostia in the Army Element from Sept.of '62-Feb.of '63. " I already had my Music degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. At the Naval School-I learned "What is a whole note-what is a quarter rest......

How did this get lost in the shuffle?
Too bad somebody didn't know how to record it right,, soooo good though. it sounded great about halfway through then something happened to the audio on the recording., dang. So glad they did this,, just amazing, I'm sure Bill was there too.
I got scared for a minute because I thought my expensive headphones just went bad 😂😂😂🎺

Muito exelente 👏👏👏👏
I met Irving at the first Trumpet Symposium in Denver many, many years ago, at the Benge display. I bought a double case from him there. He was just the nicest cat in the world; we had many great conversations that week. Just a true gentleman.
Irving was a great player. Also a fantastic mouthpiece maker! I play his model M-7....a great piece! RIP Maestro Bush.

Those guys were my heroes. They still are. Great video, but one suggestion. Bring the music down a tad. It's hard to hear the narration. Also because the music is so good, it becomes distracting.
@Truth614 Yes. Though after all these years the problem remains uncorrected, for whatever reason.
Carl, I hear a lot of Fagerquist licks in your playing, of course with all your own great stuff too.
トランペットの音じゃないみたい
Great tone! I also like your ideas and melody. Beautiful solo.
amazing
класс..CHase
u r good im still taking classes at school and im now at symphonic class every time i hear your videos i get motivated
Such a tragedy that this kind of jazz, and the great, talented people who drove it and created these fantastic sounds just slowly became a waste as far as the general public was concerned. Goodbye Elvis. I never did love ya.
AMAZING !
Any Origional players in this group
the trumpet section were all original. Jim Oatts, the guy with the long hair, is a friend. Dartanyan Brown, bassist, describes how the band members awaited the news of the plane crash at the Oatts' family home in Jefferson, Ia.
Carl is a musical genius, and an emotional one-off in development. Jazz should be thankful for his entry. A superb player of unbelievable versatility. Vain, maybe, but does he not deserve to be?
