One of my favorite moments from my recently released album Hindsight, is the end of Orrin Evans' solo on "Walking The Plank," in which he hits this simple repeated note figure that grooves so hard! I love how Orrin can play a simple thing like that and sound so damn good! The following video features the aforementioned solo by Orrin Evans on piano, along with the rest of the stellar rhythm sect...

In Sept. of 2020 I got some friends together for an impromptu streaming gig at The 1905 in Portland, OR. Rather than read tunes from charts, we mostly did "sketches" and improvised collectively on a singular musical motif, chord, etc. It was a fun experiment, which lead to some very cool moments. Enjoy!
This is the best video/lesson I have seen ever on playing trumpet thank you Charlie x
Having so much trouble figuring out how to set my lips, I would ask older, accomplished players. Every time I was told "just put it on your lips and blow", the rage of a million bulls would cause me to come close to having an aneurysm. Thirty-five years later, I learned that there are many sizes of mouth pieces. Life is so much easier now.
I've never stared so much at another man's lips.
Thank you very much Charlie for all your kind and free shared videos. Thanks !
when playing high and soft he said the lips will roll in, but what if crescendo from that, should the lips roll out?
I got a mini pocket an I did no how to blow in it feel like my ears was going to pop going to try what u said to do
Sencillamente un excelente músico y maestro qué comparte su conocimiento sin egoísmo
Am I missing something? I still can't buzz correctly. 😫 😪
Hi Charlie, great lessons. Thank you very much!
Should we still get the teeth parallel while setting up the embouchure? When i stay normal my top teeth are in front of the bottom ones
Thanks Charlie ! A gem as usual. Much love from Douala
Thanks Charlie ! A gem as usual. Much love from Duala
😅200$ trumpet with large & quality mouthpeace sound about the same aa a $20,000 trumpet !!! What a waste! Btw you can get a darker $200 vintage trumpet will sound even better😂❤
Hello Charlie! I have been having issues with my embochure, and your videos have been very helpful. I would like to ask if you teach private lessons? I’m very interested. I sent you an email, too. Hope you ser my message. Thanks for sharing your knowledge 🎺🎶
Wow! Outstanding!! I could no more do what Charlie Porter does than fly. But Charlie's method of teaching really is good. I'm almost 90 so I can only play like Charlie in my dreams.
When i try to whistle like that i have live a vocal break, where sound is interrupted and then switches to another register
Bonjour, j'arrive un peu tard sur votre vidéo. Vous pouvez mettre votre focus en manuel avec une profondeur de champs un peu plus grande. C'est pour avoir une zone de netteté plus grande. Merci pour votre vidéo.
The sluring tip really helped me
Thank you so much!! I subscribed. Gratitude from Korea!
wowwwwww !!!!! amazing infos ;) thank you for sharing !!!!!
This is by far the most detailed tutorial on embouchure. Thanks, Charlie.
I would like to say thank you, your video and your perspective, actually were very beneficial. I like you, and personally, you remind me of the Stiffmeister but in musical dimension! 😊😊😅
I believe the Bach 37, 43 and 72 all have the same bell size. They differ on the taper getting to the bell. Enjoy your channel!
Very interesting, thank you good performance very motivating
Taiwan is China
When I set up my embouchure, one side of my top lip overlaps my bottom lip. Do you have any tips for this?
Gratitud maestro bendito sea portadas las enseñanzas que nos brindan
What size mouthpiece do your prefer?
this was really cool

So ein Dreck
That 37 with the MMP sounds amazing and not for nothing that $200 horn sounds great to play lead
Hi Charlie. I hope you're well. You know you're old video on the trumpet mutes. Do you have the trumpet transcripts for those parts that you played? Thanks and all the best. Philip
Great video. I think your interpretation of folks saying “trumpet players dont realy buzz when they play” is kind of like the devil Reading the bible. Check out Allen Vizzuttis take on the subject.; If you keep blowing with an embochure into the mpc, no buzz, and add on the trumpet. Suddently Sound comes out the horn. its no different than your own take on keeping the lips apart when playing.
What a great player
I played trumpet all through middle and high school and loved every second of it, though I'm not knowledgeable at all on the different models, I played one with a crumpled bell from like 1950 something 😂 I know the Monette is supposed to be the highest end trumpet but I honestly kind of prefer the Back (edit: bach* typing too fast lol) 37 with the Monette mouthpiece. Idk, seems a little more versatile and still overall a good sound. The Monette trumpet seems suited for more soft pieces with fine dynamic control, but if you are just playing regularly complicated stuff, I like the tone of the 37/monette mpc best if I were to pick one for myself
That's charlier etude 2. Etude 1 is del articulation
you’re in the zone
Yeah , like I'm gonna buy a 20,000 dollar horn . How much do think I'm gonna get at the hock shop for that horn 🤔
wise words
after watched this video i can finally hit G
top shelf playing
I've always had range and endurance problems till I saw your video. I was instantly fixed. Thank you and God bless you
The Monette really shows up the others with stability and slotting on the ends of the register. It's like having a Flugle on the lower but still sings on top. For sure if you can't afford the whole instrument a good mouthpiece still makes al the difference. I keep a bag of eBay used quality, everything from Monette to Schilke, and when I get a new piece of tube I try them out to find what's best for me for that setup. All my instruments I can just pick up and blow through the middle and it's like ringing a bell! 👍 Top Tip, if you don't have the money for a bespoke trumpet, get a good used Bach 37 with decent valve block and get a custom lead pipe, bell and bracing put on for what you want to do. 👍😊
I play on my upper red whole my life and it limits my ability to progress I wish I knew how to fix
🎺🚀🎺🎺🚀🎺🚀🚀
So I checked out the monette mouths piece you’re using in this video on their website. The website says you switched over to the unity B2-7 model. What do find is better on the newer model?
The Bach 37 has a great tone. I wouldn't spend $18000 more for the Monette tank.
Bro, thnx you! I reali get it!!!!!!!!!!
