Despite the tough times and recently having our first child, I managed to fly out to NYC in August and record my third album, as a leader, with an amazing cast of musicians, including Orrin Evans (piano/keys), Mike Moreno (guitar), Kenneth Salters (drums), Nicholas Biello (sax, keys), Behn Gillece (vibes), David Wong (bass), Majid Khaliq (violin), Jimmie Herrod (vocals), Damian Erskine (electric bass) as well as two special guests who sent tracks in from Mali (Africa), Bassekou Kouyate (n’goni) and Mahamadou Tounkara (tama) and a local gospel choir here from Portland, OR.
Please spread the word! We have until December 20th to raise funds for the album on Kickstarter. You can pre-order your copy now and get the album a month before it’s official release on Origin Records.

Whew love the crunchy chords, the big brass, super tight percussion... Can't wait!
You have to acknowledge, not only the great mastery of Mr Porter on his instrument, wich is astounding in itself, but the deep spirit of the man himself. Great composition skills . Beautiful choice of musicians. I’ve listen to his first two albums over and over again and they still mesmerize me. I can only say thank you for being there. Jazz as an art form needs messengers of that stature.
Hi Mr. Porter. I like your videos. You are an awesome trumpet player, no doubt. I play the trumpet regularly since 1994. I’m evaluated to be a average/good player...not more, and never will be! Because my range remains from G low through G middle to G High. And there it stops. There is absolutely no way for me to play higher notes, even in twenty seven years of playing. “Lucky are those who can”. Keep posting your good work Mr. Porter. You are a good man. 🎺🙂
Sounds amazing! But seems to reflect the sorry state of affairs in the music industry that Charlie has to have a Kickstarter to fund his album. These musicians are all quality, quality musicians. They’re not a bunch of kids trying to make an album, these are all consummate professionals. I just think it’s sad that an album clearly of this excellence has to be ‘Kickstarted.’ 😢

I'm a broke kid, sorry! So good it made me laugh. Art is as important as food or exercise in terms of health, this year has shown that thoughtfulness and creativity are exactly what we could use more of if we hope to begin to understand each other in the ways that will allow us to uplift and support each other, no matter what we believe that has yet to change or where we come from. Never stop creating!
