Tristan98 great question!! While I do have a cEDH deck tech or two on my channel, this deck is geared towards a 7-8 power level (scale of 1-10) which provides a Grindy utility based game plan. But all that being said, I just really enjoy how Derevi & gaea’s cradle synergize in such a powerful way enabling high levels of mana ramp through Derevi’s untap ability.

Ryan Linkous those are both fantastic card options! Initially I didn’t have bolas’s citadel in my list because I wanted to have greedy ad nauses without the concern of hitting a 6 cmc spell.. but with my revisions to the deck I do actually run it now. The card is like one card win con %70+ of the time when it resolves, plus I already was running aetherflux & sensei’s top. I have not put bonus round in - although that card is absolutely nuts - due to it feeling like a win more card (not doing enough when not storming off) when I’d proffer to run just a good stand alone card with high functionality on an average turn. I have buffed my build a good amount, so I may need to post an updated list soon:D

Cully it depends how you use bonus round in your build. Example you drop bonus round + demonic tutor and search for dark petition for 1 of them, the other cabal ritual, gives you 10 black mana plus 2 tutors netting you 11 black mana upon casting it plus 2 spells. It CAN be a win more card, or it could, and mainly, cripple opponents because it causes you to have an immense upper hand over your competition. But each build is its own and unique and metas matter a lot for now builds are ran.

Cully I find bonus round to be a win con with any tutor in hand.

Ryan Linkous those are some very strong plays with bonus round, I may have under estimated its ability to start off a storm turn with ease. I will have to reconsider my thoughts on the card and give it a try, after all the card is nuts. I’m just imagining casting it from hand, then a second time from grave triggering the first bonus rounds reverberate effect.. it just sounds like insane value!!

Cully ad nauseam at this point becomes only necessary to hit mana rocks for scepter combos for a storm win, or need to hit a tutor. No need to draw your deck with it as you can combo off with the tutors generating tons of mana in the process!

Ryan Linkous oh man hitting the double wheel after back to back opponent tutors is such an amazing interaction!! Totally made them waste 2 turns and 2 tutors, I love it. Kess is actually so darn good. T&T is great, but kess really holds my favorite cEDH commander pick every time.

Darrin White that’s a really good idea, it takes care of the problem I have when the reservoir gets removed and I need a secondary win con. Plus grapeshot can be cast from the grave with kess. Thank you for the great input!

Also a lot harder for opponents to counter bc of storm going on the stack. Glad to help

This certainly is a blast to play, it is my best deck by a long shot. I dont usually play completely cEDH decks but it is good to have one you can pull out at a competitive table.

BTW I will have my Mairsil Deck up within the week!

joey s oh yes those are great cards! I actually picked them up for my kess storm list, which I will be posting very soon (then I’ll get to Mairsil). Echo of eons is such an awesome alternative to time twister, I would play it in my storm list but my CMC’s are aggressively low so Ad nausium gets as much value as possible 😝

I actually have a Mairsil deck core from a couple months ago when I first built the deck, so I can easily throw it back together. I’ll go over my choices, play style, and overall deck theory. I love Mairsil, such a strong commander with so much flexibility and awesome interactions. (:

joey s I completely relate. Mairsil has been one of my favorites for a couple years now, the only reason I have it deconstructed atm is due to me using some of the staple grixis cards I own in my kess and inalla deck 😛🤣

Pea Snaps that’s awesome to hear! I do love Felton a ton, but having a mono color deck restricts a lot of options. Grenzo will give ya a whole new color to work with, a similar graveyard-centric strategy, still let you use Feldon just in the main deck instead, and not to mention all the free value of grenzos activated ability. Plus so many of the cards which synergize with bottom of the deck manipulation to maximize Grenzos value are cheap to buy. I do love how this deck plays in such a unique manner and my build typically can combo out between turn 5-7 if uninterrupted. I look forward to hearing how your build turns out!

Cully If you’re looking for some interaction in BR, Pyroblast, Red Elemental Blast, and Imp’s Mischief will be really helpful!

joey s great recommendation! I’ll have to consider putting those into the deck, the only reason I haven’t put more instants in is because they don’t synergize with genzo and I aim to make his ability get as much value as possible when activated.

Cully Totally understood, I have an Animar deck that eschews a lot of the usual instants you might see in RUG colors for that exact reason. I only run a couple protection and interaction spells at 1 cmc - I gotta make room for all my creatures!

joey s animar is so sweet I’ve certainly gotta best numerous times by the commander! Literally so strong. Has Protection, lowers CMC costs, buffs himself, he does it all!

@@CullenReck I also feel that Reliquary Tower was a bit over valued in this deck. I don't think that there's ever a reason to have more than your 7 best cards in your hand for this deck. We're not discarding as additional cost for anything or having cards on board benefit to the number of cards in hand. The only real reason I see for the card is if someone is playing a card that reads along the lines of, "each player's maximum handsize is reduced by 7".

On the subject of card draw, I've recently been playing around with Paradox Engine to go with the 10 mana rocks that I have. Combined with Galecaster Colossus, Azami, Arcanis the Omnipotent, etc the card has been insane. It has changed the deck from feeling like it had very few win cons to feeling like you can use almost anything to win. It's nice to not have the same play line every game and so far it feels like each game is it's own puzzle.

only1sn1not1taken very spicy! The amount of things you can cast in a single turn with that kinda combo out is awesome. The reliquary tower is probably more personal preference, depending on the play group sometimes I just play heavy control, recursion, and battle of attrition with this deck, instead of infinite. In those situations particularly I enjoy holding 10-20 cards in hand to maximize my amount of possible interactions I can hold up. But reliquary is amazing in any deck, long as your drawing cards 😂

@@CullenReck Quality of Life more than an importance. Though it does speed up end of turn so you don't have to keep everyone held up while you decide what 7 to keep.

brandan matthews thank you! I’m very glad you found some of my insights helpful, but saddly my camera quality is pretty dreadful - hopefully soon to improve on that! I have not built a storm build for kess though, so I’m sorry to say I don’t have any particular knowledge pertaining to that. I believe ‘lab maniacs’ have some kess storm builds, so maybe check them out for that style build!

Been working on a storm build for kess! I’ll be posting a deck tech for it sometime soon. Didn’t expect myself to make one, yet I ended up really liking the play styles resilience & powerful card choices storm allows. Hopefully not to late getting back to you with this deck tech. I’ll hope to see your feedback when I post it (: also the filming quality will be much better.

Thanks for asking Victor! It combos with number 42: galaxy tomahawk. Summoning LANphorhynchus, Proxy Dragon, & link spider off the tokens galaxy tomahawk creates, enables easy access to Saryuja Skull Dread (Token+link spider+LANphorhynchus+proxy dragon= 4 different names from a single effect activation of Galaxy Tomahawk). Saryuja (when summoned using 4 different names) really helps D/D's function!
