In ‘I Need You Girl’ , V has an alcoholic father that abuses him and his sister. He comes home to find his father abusing his sister again, so he grabs a bottle and stabs him with it. This is part of the BU (BTS Universe) storyline. This is a fictional parallel universe where the boys play characters named after them, who are all going through something traumatic, and their friendship is the one thing that can save them.

This MV is full of symbolism and references. I would recommend you watch one of the explanation videos out there. My favourite one is the one by an Italian Army. But the other one I’ve seen is good too, they just emphasis different points. The Italian one really explains the political and social motivation behind the MV. Basically in 2014 a high school was taking the kids on an excursion and they were on a ferry. The ferry started sinking at some point and I think a couple hundred kids lost their lives. It turned out the ferry sank due to governmental corruption and the ferry being loaded beyond its specified capacity. The crew also abandoned the ship leaving the kids behind. Then the government and media tried to cover it up. This became a whole scandal (the sewol ferry disaster) and eventually the president ended up being impeached and imprisoned. When BTS released this video, it was risky for them, because I think they were nearly blackballed by the then government. Although they didn’t directly say that the ferry disaster was what the MV was about, and the visual references are all indirect or metaphorical, once you know it’s clear that is what it’s about. But you’re right, it’s a really sad song, because for the families that lost their kids, they want to see their children again but they never will. A fun fact , since Spring Day was released in 2017 it’s never left the Korean music charts.

You did amazing at catching the details here. Yes, it is about grieving loss. There are several ARMY made analysis video's, some having obvious intended meanings and some speculations. The Sewol ferry incident was what directly inspired it, but I feel like it is a song that addresses grieving for loss in many ways.

I have chills!!!! RM wrote the lyrics to this song about missing the close connections he had with his friends back home. You got it exactly right!!! However, the visual imagery in the music video is about something else. The director of the MV wanted to tell a story about the Sewol Ferry tragedy. I recommend you watch the explanation video by Italian ARMY. The symbolism runs deeeeeeeep in this MV, down to the clothes they are wearing. Get some tissues. There is also a strong connection to the UK that might surprise you and warm your hearts. The video is hard to follow because sometimes you have to read the English captions for her narration and also read captions that translate Korean words on the screen. Very important: Go slow, pause, read everything.
