In the beginning of EXO's "Overdose" MV what you saw is that the members have been trapped in a maze by the Red Force and they are trying to use their superpowers to escape the maze. For example, in the Korean version we see Chen throw a beam of light, which is an example of them using their powers. Chen has the power to control lightning so he tossed a lightning bolt to Lay who has the power of healing. Lay is the only one who could have caught that light beam without being injured because Lay has the power of healing and he can heal himself. The story in the MV is pretty much the members trying to summon their powers to try and escape from the maze. The box that D.O. had at the beginning of the MV was full of dirt. D.O.'s superpower is force, which is summoned by the manipulation of earth elements, such as dirt, and it gives him super strength, so he was using the sand to build his strength back up. The other members were also trying to use their powers of teleportation, fire, light, etc. In the beginning when you see the EXO-K members making that picture while standing on each other, they are forming their hexagon symbol, which is EXO's official symbol. (In the Mandarin version, you will notice it's different members.) The different sets you see, are thought to be different rooms within the maze, or maybe alternate realities or time periods created by the Red Force to lure the EXO members to them. In the EXO-K version of "Overdose" the K members sing the main parts of the song and they are the first group of 6 you see. (When you see them revisit the same sets in the MV the group you see is the 6 EXO-M members.) If you watch the Mandarin version, you will see the M members take over the main parts of the song and the K members are the ones you see second. So, even when the MVs look the same, they will always be slightly different because the members are assigned different parts in each MV. For example, in the Korean version, the EXO-K rappers (Chanyeol and Sehun) are the ones that are part of the rap section. If you watch the Mandarin version, you will see Kris, Xiumin and Tao are the rappers because they are EXO-M's rappers. Tao is also the martial artist of the group, so he is the one that does the flips and stunts in EXO's routines. And the main vocal parts and high notes are done by Baekhyun in the Korean version, but in the Mandarin version that part is Chen's because he is EXO-M's main vocalist, etc. The song is designed to sound like that because it's supposed to give the listener a disorienting feeling. The song is structured the way it is to represent the feeling of being trapped in the maze and being confused because the EXO members are being manipulated by the Red Force. (Even the style and beat of the songs are intended to be a part of the concept within EXO's storyline.) Plus, the song is called "Overdose" so it is supposed to give you the feeling of being drugged like you are overdosing on love. Although, in the song they're not overdosing on anything except love. As the English lines in the song say: "So bad, no one can stop her ... her love, her love (is) fantasy ... Oh she wants me, Oh she's got me ... Oh she hurts me ... someone call the doctor ... (her love makes me) overdose ... too much of your love makes me overdose ... too much overdose ... You're in my heart ... with you I can't stop", etc. This song is kind of a love song about how powerful love can be that it feels like no matter how much you try to resist it you keep getting pulled back in like a drug. However, for the storyline in the MV there might be a little more at play than just being drugged by love. Some theories say that the story in "Overdose" is connected to the story in their "Lucky One" MV. In "Overdose" the members get trapped in the maze and they can't find their way out. The red light represents the Red Force who have trapped them in the maze. It is thought that the maze causes the members to get disoriented and sort of become incapacitated so they are unable to defend themselves. The maze dulls their senses and makes it so they lose the ability to use their powers at full strength, etc. At the end of the MV, if you look at the design of the maze, we discover that the maze has only one way in and no way out. Which I think is meant to represent and mirror the fact that they are saying they are trapped by love and once you are in there is no way out. The maze was also EXO's logo for this album and it is shaped like EXO's hexagon symbol. Also, something to note, you see Kai in the beginning and end of the MV in the Korean version because he is the center and visual of EXO-K. However, in the Mandarin version you will see Luhan fills that same role because he was the center and visual of EXO-M. Plus, Kai and Luhan were each other's power counterparts as well. Therefore, this establishes the connection between EXO-K and EXO-M. Kai and Luhan were supposed to have a bond that connected the two groups and made them one as part of EXO's storyline. The theory speculates that sometime after the end of the "Overdose" MV, EXO gets captured or transferred from the maze -- or possibly moved to another room within the maze -- and brought to a government facility by the Red Force. That is why we see them in a hospital-like setting in their "Lucky One" MV. In the story in the "Lucky One" MV the members are drugged by the Red Force and they are being experimented on to discover what makes them so special. So, the maze is thought to have been created by the Red Force in order to gain control of the EXO members. Their "Overdose" MV establishes the fact that EXO are trapped in a maze, which is why we believe that several of EXO's other MVs are also showing them trapped in the maze and trying to figure out how to escape, etc. This storyline doesn't end here, it continues in several of their other MVs. As you are discovering, all of the stories in EXO's MVs are connected. We just have to pay close attention to every detail and put the pieces together. "Overdose" came out in 2014 and this is one of the last MVs where all 12 members are part of the song and MV. (Kris left the group right after this MV was released and Luhan will leave within the next 6 months.) You should watch the Mandarin versions of "Overdose," as well. :D If you watch EXO-M's version of "Overdose" you will understand why we say even though they may seem like they are similar MVs, there are distinct differences between the Korean and Mandarin versions that are important to EXO's storyline. (2012) 6 Members for EXO-K for Korean Ver. Fandom name EXO-L for Love 🥰 6 Members for EXO-M for Mandarin Ver. Members compose of 4 chinese and 8 koreans 3 chinese left the group so EXO became a 9 members group. (2015) With 1 chinese left (Lay/ Zhang, Yixing) South Korea and China had political issue so Lay was forced to promote as a solosit in China (2016) and EXO was forced to performed as an 8 member group all South Koreans. (2017-2018) EXO Military enlistment started 2019 so starting 2019 you will see MVs of their songs with lesser members. EXO members also started releasing albums as soloist in 2019 up to present. They are all amazing soloists as well. EXO will complete military service next year 2015 while Lay promised to be there for his brothers anytime they need him. If you want to know about EXO's story the best place to start is their debut MAMA (means your Majesty in Korean). However to get the whole story you do need to see both EXO-K (Korean) and EXO-M (Mandarin) versions of the song or you only get half the story. Due to conflicts between china and SK back then, Lay the remaining chinese member has to promote solo in china but still part of EXO and under sm. So some videos in 2017, 2018 and 2019 you wont see him in the mv. In 2020 he successfully made his own entertainment company( chromosomes entertainment ) and left sm in 2021 but still let fans know he is still part of EXO. IN 2019 the korean members started enlisting in the military one by one since its mandatory in south korea to serve for 2 years before turning 30 and meanwhile the active members started doing solo works which were all successful and currently now in 2024 the 2 youngest are still serving in the military who are still sm artist, along with the leader suho and rapper Chanyeol. The other 4 ( D.o has his own company Soosoo, baekhyun also with Inb100 along with Xiumin and chen). But for group promotions as EXO they will still perform together under sm. EXO's Killing voice is 20 minutes of them singing a medley of some of their hits from their extensive career so far. Mostly title tracks, but some B-sides. If you want EXO vocal magic, I would recommend watching any of their 4 winter album title tracks. They are all ballady type tracks and are all magnificent! Miracles in December, Sing For You, For Life, and Universe are the 4 songs/MV's. "Universe" and "Sing for You" are my personal favs. Also, SM didn't do any subs on their song's/MV's until EXO's track Tempo, in 2018. After that, all SM MV's (on the main SM channel) have CC's. Any prior to that, do not.
So EXO is the name of the one big group (12 members). EXO-K and EXO-M are often described as sub-units, though that's not 100% accurate. EXO-K released songs in Korean and EXO-M released the exact same songs in Mandarin, and the group was created with the intention of promoting in both Korea and China. Each "sub-unit' has six members, and they do promotions together for their respective group. It's essentially about who do we see *most* within each version. That's where their slogan "We Are One" comes from. Two groups but it's all EXO. i don't think there's enough words that i can say to explain exo talent, from group, to soloits and subunits. their live performances and live vocals are unreal. exo have 3 main vocalists which is crazy for one group, other 6 members (including rappers) have amazing vocals too. exo is just gem of kpop. also they are starters of kpop lore. they have storyline that followed them since 2012 till now, 12 years. anyways hope you'll check more exo. they are incredible and, imo, have the best kpop discography. thank you for this entertaining reaction and all words of a praise. please react to exo killing voice; mama, monster and wolf live in exordium; diamond, coming over, drop that and power live in elyxion. also i recommend obsession, call me baby, tempo and cream soda mvs. exo are known for not sticking to same genere of songs. they are switching up the sound every comeback and have wide variety of music. thank you again!

If you want to know about EXO's story the best place to start is their debut MAMA (means your Majesty in Korean). However to get the whole story you do need to see both EXO-K (Korean) and EXO-M (Mandarin) versions of the song or you only get half the story. Essentially EXO are aliens with superpowers who are fighting the Red Force.

EXO have been 9 members since 2015, but numbers change due to military enlistment and political tensions between S Korea and China changing. Many of their B sides are better than the title tracks, and they are amazing live.

Due to conflicts between china and SK back then, Lay the remaining chinese member has to promote solo in china but still part of EXO and under sm. So some videos in 2017, 2018 and 2019 you wont see him in the mv. In 2020 he successfully made his own entertainment company( chromosomes entertainment ) and left sm in 2021 but still let fans know he is still part of EXO. IN 2019 the korean members started enlisting in the military one by one since its mandatory in south korea to serve for 2 years before turning 30 and meanwhile the active members started doing solo works which were all successful and currently now in 2024 the 2 youngest are still serving in the military who are still sm artist, along with the leader suho and rapper Chanyeol. The other 4 ( D.o has his own company Soosoo, baekhyun also with Inb100 along with Xiumin and chen). But for group promotions as EXO they will still perform together under sm. All Exols want EXO to leave sm for all the years of unfair promotion treatment for the group when they are literally SM's money makers. So thats the deal. Hope this helps.

EXO's Killing voice is 20 minutes of them singing a medley of some of their hits from their extensive career so far. Mostly title tracks, but some B-sides. If you want EXO vocal magic, I would recommend watching any of their 4 winter album title tracks. They are all ballady type tracks and are all magnificent! Miracles in December, Sing For You, For Life, and Universe are the 4 songs/MV's. "Universe" and "Sing for You" are my personal favs. Also, SM didn't do any subs on their song's/MV's until EXO's track Tempo, in 2018. After that, all SM MV's (on the main SM channel) have CC's. Any prior to that, do not.

So EXO is the name of the one big group (12 members). EXO-K and EXO-M are often described as sub-units, though that's not 100% accurate. EXO-K released songs in Korean and EXO-M released the exact same songs in Mandarin, and the group was created with the intention of promoting in both Korea and China. Each "sub-unit' has six members, and they do promotions together for their respective group. HOWEVER, the reality is, no matter which version of the song you picked, all 12 members would be in the music video and all 12 members would sing on the track. It's essentially about who do we see *most* within each version. That's where their slogan "We Are One" comes from. Two groups but it's all EXO. To add to the idea, the fandom name is EXO-L, which is EXO-Love, but is also right between K and M, so it's like the fans unite the groups.
All of this is relevant to their first few years. Eventually, 3 out of the 4 Chinese members left, and they stopped promoting as two separate entities. You will see video titles switch to just "EXO" at that point. They currently have 9 members, including one Chinese member who hasn't been able to perform with them due to politics, but is still very much in the group. If you ever see fewer than 8 members, it's cause somebody was in the military at the time.
