Shadow of a Doubt (1942) - Uncle Charlie (subtitulado)
Desde hace muchos años han existido personajes oscuros e inesperados que han sido interpretados por actores que, hasta ese momento, no parecían cubrir con el rol de villano.
Hablé hace unos días de Robin Williams y su villano bajo el mando de Christopher Nolan, en este caso puede sonar similar, se trata de Joseph Cotten, un conocido actor proveniente del Teatro Mercury que encabezaba Orson Welles y su inesperado trabajo como villano bajo el mando de el legendario Alfred Hitchcock en la película La Sombra de una Duda de 1942.
En esta cinta Cotten interpreta a Charlie Oakley, quien pasa de visita con la familia Newton y entablece amistad con su sobrina "Charlie", una joven adolescente que lentamente se da cuenta de la verdadera naturaleza de su tío.
Este personaje fue considerado el primer psicópata de Alfred Hitchcock, y por ende, esta fue de las mejores películas en su época independiente.
Aquí en la escena, se revela un poco de los ideales a los que es afín el Tío Charlie.

I still recall seeing this film on initial release with my parents 50 years ago this summer. OJ Simpson was 26 and now he just passed away, age 76 from cancer. All that drama that ensued after his sports/acting career with his murder rap, the Las Vegas robbery and prison sentence-crazy.
Same here, I watched it in the theatre with my parents too. O.J. Simpson was considered a great guy then and being that he was a football player and not a trained actor it was a big privilege for him to appear in a scene with stars like McQueen and Newman. Years later when he was charged with murder it was surreal.

And highly symptomatic of the era we’ve transcended, from a time of wide eyed filmic adventure, rising stars crossing over into a new realm…and then witnessing individual downfalls like this, part and parcel of the societal abyss we seem to be slowly entering.

Kinda ironic this scene would play out in real life 27 years later when the WTC twin towers were attacked on 9/11. However, the WTC’s architect Mr. Yamasaki didn’t live to see his creations burn and fall, nor were there any working elevators to reach the fires in both towers as the planes struck

When McQueen says, " This is the one building I figured wouldn't burn." Kinda put me in mind of the Titanic, for obvious reasons.

I hate to say it but it seems to me O.J.'s response to McQueen asking who they are is reasonable, what they're names are and which political party they support is irrelevant during a Towering Inferno

I saw this film when it was first released in the theater, when I was ten years old, and it was fantastic to see it on the big screen.
