My channel started while I was teaching apprentices and I found that there was very little online that helped them. So I started to upload a few videos of my work, and it grew from there.

Building a Segmental Arch with Reclaim Imperial Bricks
zhlédnutí 3,2KPřed 2 měsíci
The gable end wall has had some movement over the years which has caused the existing arch to fail and also produce a crack in the middle or the wall. The installation of two substantial concrete lintels together with chemically fixed Heli-bar to the face and rear of the wall has restored strength to the gable. The face brickwork was then replaced over the window frame with a new, reclaimed bri...

M is for murder... I mean Mawthers completion of the freehand Rolled Batter with the M motif for this property as I build up to the ridge and towards the table. Now we await the scaffold to be raised. But as we wait for that I can get on with cutting the bricks for the octagonal stack.
How to Build a Rolled Batter
zhlédnutí 6KPřed 4 měsíci
to reduce the width of a wall it is common to use plinth bricks or you could tumble them if the angle is between 45⁰ and 60⁰. The worst method is to simply step it in each course. Here you can see the Rolled Batter, by simply adding a curved wedge cut to each end to start the roll and then following the line. This is basically a free hand method, using the level for plumb and only on the lower,...

Amazing brickwork, got to be the best bricklayer in country, An inspiration to bricklayers of all abilities
Great vid mate. Doing my house now. Old bricks and ive only ever used a jointer before. This was just what i needed. Cheers
Beautiful!
Coming on nice Rob 🙌🏽🙌🏽🧱👍🏽
There used to be a very similar staircase in an old Half-Price Books Store in Houston Texas in the Rice Village Shopping Center
Rob Songer keeps our craft alive, while others are desperate to dumb it down for the bosses.
Great info, thanks Rob
mind numbing that rob. looking amazing.
What a complex and challenging job. Super interesting, this obviously requires a lot of focus and thought going into the planning and layout. And then there's still getting the work just right, I imagine it is very satisfying to see this come together. I am really enjoying the explanations of everything, also when it comes to the limitations, and how sometimes there is no perfect solution, and the fixes. The beauty of brickwork is exactly in that IMO, having to work with the dimensions and tolerances, and the result is always unique. Lovely work. Can't wait to see more.
Would love to see a time lapse of you guys spreading and laying !
Sir, thank you for this tutorial. Quite informative and the demonstra is commendable. I have seen quite a good number of profiles, some of which were poorly constructed while other too expensive. But here is an effective wooden profile that also serves as a plumb. This is my take home. You're simply good at work and neat. 🎉 I will keep an offline copy of this video for reference. Could you please inform me about the mix ratio of your mortar? Also, what sand is this, river sand or clay? Looks somewhat white
Beautiful! 🧱🧱🧱
Hi rob, how do you avoid stains on brickwork using lime?
@@user-lt1fx3gd2p hi, there are 2 main factors for preventing smudges and stains. Firstly, make sure the mortar isn't too wet and secondly, it's all about the technique of laying beds and perping up... don't smear onto the brick, cut away. I think I have a few videos on running in and one video is just on 'Perps'
Excellent work and tutor...Well done and thank you !
How does cement become this colour?
it's a lime mortar
How does cement become this colour?
A fine example of how to make good 👍….did you just take it all down it looks so the way the bricks were cut in the internal otherwise it wouldn’t look as neat as it does … anyway never mind the second comment they ain’t got a clue!! Rob songer = master trowel.
Both examples are terrible brickwork.
@rob songer Where can I get that mold? (Angle mode)
Rob you are a true master
this video is great, i'm starting a self build soon and this is the only video on the net that explains this in depth thank you
As if it’s not hard enough they want a lift shaft in the middle 🤯🤯👌🏼🧱👍🏽
I thought at first all the plumb lines where for keeping the perps plumb but it has just dawned on me you are using them to plumb the circular brickwork too. Am I correct in my assumption?
@@harveysmith100 yes, absolutely correct. One line doing 2 jobs. Thank you for watching
@@robsonger1 Nice idea Rob. I am enjoying this build.
@@harveysmith100 me too, keep watching and spread the word!
@@robsonger1 Already have Rob, are you watching John?
@@harveysmith100 John? Lennon, the Baptist, John brother of James the son of Zebedee?
which way do you face half brick in a single brick in say a garden wall?
Mind bobbilingly brilliant ❤
That's a LOT of weight! I'm sure it will be beautiful when complete...As a builder/tradesman for over 3 decades; I have a first hand experience what it takes to make this job happen...
Surely it would have been a whole lot more straightforward if the rise of the stair was either2 or 3 courses?? It looks as if it is about 2 !/2 courses, or are my eyes dodgy? Whatever it is amazing. ATB
@@johnhaydon4055 rises have to work out from finish floor level to finish floor level, not brick gauge
@@robsonger1 Sure, but it seems as though the architect missed a trick there for such an impressive feature. Why not make the total rise and each riser course with the brickwork? You do see in public buildings a rise of about 150mm.
@@johnhaydon4055 yes, these are 163.5mm each rise

Wow! Now that’s beautiful! Were that more culverts were made like that. 🪨🪨🪨

If I had my life to live over again I’d either be a bricky or a clock repairman. You do beautiful brickwork! 👍👍👍
I don’t know why but that twisted fireplace reminds me of Alice in Wonderland. Beautiful job, Rob! 👍👍👍
One day the Great Pyramid Architect will marvel at thi devices ability to guide materials; as much as we will at his ability to move and guide his.
Brilliant as usual.
Hello were can I buy please
I remember an old bricky (who was like an uncle to me) teaching me to set a "jack-line" when I was working as a hod carrier and apprentice bricklayer as a teenager. We didn't have lasers back then and had to use plumb bobs. That was about 35 years ago.

I have a laser like this that I use for hanging plumb lines it works good

@@johnhaydon4055 So why did you imply it was a measure of time?
@@fritzdrybeam Have you not heard that term before, in the UK it's a pretty common figure of speech, and incidently I didn't imply it was a measure of time.
