Make Disneyland Style Fireflies - Amazing DIY Decoration
I wanted to be able to see fireflies in my back yard so... I made some! Have you ever seen the awesome fireflies at one of the Disney theme parks (ex. Pirates of the Caribbean ride entrance through the Bayou)? I wanted to replicate that type of firefly (aka lightning bug) but I could not find much in the way of specific detail on the topic. There is a great story about the man who created the effect used in recent years by Disney but no real production details. One article said there had been a design idea hanging wires with lights attached and that was all I needed to begin experimenting. This video shows the most recent evolution of my experimentation which creates a firefly display that gives the appearance of a dozen fireflies flying in irregular patterns. It really looks awesome when the lights are low or when the sun is setting (or even better... after the sun has gone down).

    You can do the same thing with a small 12 volt fan. One mister in the center of the fan works fine. All of my fans have garden misters on them. Age makes a difference in handling the heat. I'm having to find ways to continue doing what I've always done and misters help.

    Thank you for your video. After watching it today I solved the problem with needing a spare house key stored on the porch. I searched my house and found a 6mm x 1mm neodymium magnet in the flap of my fiancee's engagement ring box (which I purchased in Kyiv, Ukraine). I excised it. And I found the simplest possible key case: No Case. That is, the neodymium magnet is simply epoxied to the head of the key (no case, no container, no nothing but the brass key). As the location where it is stored does not need to protect the key from the rain or anything else, the case is unnecessary. It's elegantly simple and has a profile of 2mm (<0.1 inch) from the steel it is attracted to. It is mounted on the inside edge of a steel table I have on the porch. It is very difficult to find where it is mounted. Comes off easily, just tilt the key a little bit and it gets easy to removed, and all this can be done from feel under the table (while the neighbors may be watching you get your spare key from the secret spot). And if the table is moved and banged the key stays put. Perfect field strength for the weight of a single key. So although it's been years since you posted this, I'm very thankful, because it got me to thinking "outside the box" 🤔🙃

    I love in Florida I do mechanic work, between March and November working outside is nothing short of awful. I've been tossing different ideas around using this set up but with a small portable power station and a jet pump for when power wasnt an option. I have 2 of these sprayers (which ironically is what made the pond pump idea spring to life) it's always funny to me when moments like this happen because had I not been overthinking it and taken my own advice K I S. While taking them apart and destroying the discs, I discovered a couple of good-sized Neodymium magnets in each one. What an amazing find! I made some nice, STRONG refrigerator magnets with about 14 of them, and gave some away to friends.

    If you were to combine this in a 40oz glass bottle with the nails and then something like a porous ball to further slow down the time it takes for the glycerin to make contact with the trigger, seal the top then IDK, hang around for the Darwin awards, just make sure the camera is rolling, or RUN! If it is sealed will the reaction occur? Is oxygen a requirement? Or sealed would it burn inside the bottle and eventually explode? How would you control the pressure, something other than glass, where you can see it expanding and with nails in say, a milk carton, and the right amounts of each, could you unalive a standard bedroom full of zombies? Unalive again, that is....

    This idea is moronic as hell. DO NOT do as he did in this video. Using metal as the string WILL THROW razor sharp bits of shrapnel ALL OVER the yard and probably into your face and hand etc. This is why string trimmers use plastic, not metal, string. This video is the stupidest thing I have seen on CZcams in years.

    • @patrickhdsn
      @patrickhdsn Před 2 měsíci

      Yeah, I have to agree. I've been thinking about this idea for a while, and even picked up some steel cable + hardware getting ready to experiment. But then I started considering things like flexing and abrasion of the individual strands over time, etc. and eventually something will give. Then you'll end up with a high velocity steel projectile(s). I feel like the only safe way to try this would be with a push string mower. That way, you at least have the deck for some protection. And you could add some additional guards/shielding I guess. But I don't know if it's worth all that unless you're just really bored and/or handy at fabricating stuff. Especially when you could just use a blade with most trimmers.
