    Buddy with the amount of pitting on that flywheel surface, you kinda actually should've bought the whole assembly. They probably figured if it ran long enough to need a new bearing that the flywheel is gonna be shot also. But it's always nice fixing it yourself.

    Not sure what your govenor issue is. My Super A had problems with the throttle adjustment on the column. It seemed like it was either wide open or idling, I had a lot of problems trying to set the RPM properly. I thought I was going to have to tear into the governor, instead it was simply that a previous owner had not adjusted the throttle linkage properly between the carb and the governor. I had to adjust ir several times but finally got it to where it has a wider response for RPM's at the throttle next to the steering wheel.

    • @TheW.Homestead
      @TheW.Homestead Před 3 měsíci

      I have zero throttle response. I’m almost positive the spring is broken inside the governor. I’m waiting on parts so I can rebuild the governor. After that I’m sure I’ll have to adjust all the linkages too lol.

  • @customcutter100

    Those are some great finds for the farm. I bought a Super A in SC last year and was able to buy a 180-A belly planter that was sitting in the yard as yard art. It had some broken cast parts also which I was able to weld up on the drive wheel spokes and hub. It worked great this past spring planting corn, peas, beans, okra etc. I found an IH Duplex seed hopper and got 5 sets of plates for it. It was totally rusted up and had to use a torch to take it apart and restore it. The large plate that you picked up off of the table looks like either an IH duplex planter plate or a Cole Duplex planter plate that was horse or mule drawn. That was a great idea of your uncles to fab a smaller seed hopper inside the original hopper. My IH Duplex Planter and the Cole Duplex planter that we have the plates sit at an angle instead of parallel to the ground and they feed seed better without having to have a large quantity of seed. Repairing the broken tabs will probably go a long way in getting the planter to drop seeds, and feed properly. Weld/braze the one ear back on, if that doesn't work, you could try fabricating the second ear our of some JB Weld or Devcon. It can be machined, drilled, filed, tapped, etc once it hardens up. Hopefully Joey on Jtwes, will check out the video and give you some insight also. God Bless, Ken

      Hey Ken, thanks for the comment. I also have a 180-A belly planter but I’m still looking for the tractor mount. It’s been a long time since I brazed or welded cast iron but I’m sure it’ll be like riding a bike lol. In the end JB weld might come to the rescue but we’re going to give it a shot. I really do appreciate the comment and I enjoyed reading about your planters. Have a blessed day -Joe

  • @jvin248
    @jvin248 Před 4 měsíci

    Cover crops will take more than one shot. You got a great start. You must have plowed the ground a little too wet so it clumped up and dried hard before disking? This fall I'd suggest to disk down residues and broadcast winter rye grain as early as you can (best is six weeks before first frost) so it gets good growth before winter. Then next spring plant corn/beans into the standing rye and roll it flat with a cultipacker 'down and back' after the corn/beans are just up out of the ground (or single pass with a roller-crimper). Then you have mulch that lasts the season until your main crop shades out weeds on its own. If you flatten (or disk) down the cover before the main crop is planted then weeds have as fast a start as your crop so it's like you didn't use a cover crop other than fertilizer. Since I have an old 50s shoe planter, not a modern no-till style, I set my cultivator to scratch trenches for the planter shoes to follow in while the rye remains standing. Here is who I am learning the system from: czcams.com/video/L7q2N-Jf-lk/video.html I found buckwheat brings in a lot of beneficial insects so scatter seed along the outside rows next to any fence rows/forests and that will become a barrier.
