@@greenmachinesweden Just like any other tropical plant, water when needed. Make sure it gets enough light. I mist daily and organic fertilizer is always in it's holders. I don't use the recommended Pine soil bud mix 50% of compost in as otherwise dries out to quickly here (central heating).

@@TOEKIEWORLDMarc Very interesting. Rated as hardy to USDA zone 7-9 I would think it needs winter dormancy to survive. But it doesn't? How long have you had it?

@@greenmachinesweden This one, over 2 years I think but it suffered last winter when I was sick. It is recovering though. As long as night temperatures don't go under under 58 F, you should be fine. Here, it's indoors all year round in a north-east space, 3 feet from the window. It does not like full sun as a bonsai, soil dries to quickly then and roots will die off

Thanks Julie, it's really starting to feel like home. I need green all around me to feel good. Fish will come once the first aquarium has cycled enough. This Sunday, a feathered friend comes to stay for 2 weeks as it's owners go on holiday. It'll be even more exotic then.

Bromeliads are beautiful when in bloom but hard to get them that far. Tillandsia's are way easier. Bringing up a macaw (ara) is like with a child, you have to be consistent and firm, without doing any harm of course. This boy I can read like a book. He's been with me for over 17 years now and came to me when approximately 3 months of age as a shy baby. Sticking your finger in to it's beak is not advisable if your not completely with the animal.

Nope, this is an older Maxilaria of mine, the only one that survived. Yours is hanging in the grow tent. The Bletillas, yes forgot about them. They are in the ground all year round.

I know where to go if I want kingianum. I know what you mean about bad quality orchids. These are very hardy, as long as they can dry out well and quick between waterings. That 1 small flower fills up my living room with a floral, yet sweet, fragile fragrance during the day, since it opened. Love it!

Which one do you like most, purple or white flowers?

The pot used gas a large drainage hole in the bottom. Over-watering is often a problem by many growers and results in poor root systems and rot. I only water when necessary, I don't have a regular schedule. I water when needed but mist a lot. I also only use one type of fertilizer and never experiment with different kinds. Both when watering and misting, the plants get fed the recommended dose of food. Every orchid, species or hybrid has it's specific needs so I act accordingly. Ansellia, in my opinion is the toughest species I have ever grown. It can withstand very low and extremely high temperatures. I even had some, I thought were dead when they suddenly started producing new shoots again. Hope this helps a bit, happy growing.
