Don’t Forget the weather sucks from October to May. Sure maybe a couple nice days In April , October and November. But you’re kidding yourself to believe otherwise, it’s cloudy, cold windy, rainy and overcast 7 months out of the year. Taxes are also high. Ive been thinking about moving to Detroit for the past couple of years, being a commercial truck driver my experience with the city has always been mixed, poor roads, no place to park and when you do you've got hookers pounding on your door ever 15 minutes asking if you want some companionship however the people was always friendly (even the prostitutes when you told them "no thanks") but in recent years its been on my radar, affordable housing make the idea of owning a home a reality, the general consensus is that as long as you dont do anything stupid (walk the streets late at night acting like Billy bad butt ready to take on the world) or leave your keys in the car or worse install a $1500 stereo in it then you've got little to worry about. Since I'm pretty much a recluse who simply desires to collect my disability and sit on my porch reading the newspaper while laughing at the kids pop wheelies on their bikes and my only excursions involes traveling to the VA to be chewed out by the dietitian for not esting properly or my required follow-up appointments I should be okay

South Lyon Hotel is not a Hotel any more and hasnt been for a long long long time. The bodies were moved to the current cemetery for $2.50 a body, in thise days $2.50 was a lit if money. The ghost busting team TAPS dis a Ghost investigation in the basement in the old Hotel befire it burnt down and was rebuilt, and yes they claimed it eas hunted and spirits are still there. I have a paper back book of the history of South Lyon, and i can trace my ancestors back to when South Lyon was first settled by the Thompson Family and called Thompsons Corner.

I've lived in South Lyon my entire life 54 years now my Mom and 4 Aunts born and raised her as well. My Grandmother and her 9 siblings also born and raised here. My family has been here since it was called Thompson's Corners. My Great Uncle Jimmy and Great Aunt Ocel owned Jimmy's Restaurant on the corner of Pontiactrail and 10 mile.its currently now a physical therapy office. I can even remember as a kid and teen being able to ride my bike down the middle of Pontiactrail during the day and i would have more horses go by me then cars. South Lyon was once the Horse capitol of Michigan, and the best part was when you eould visit friends and you eould mention South Lyon no one ever knew where it was or ever heard of it.

Lived in both cities. GR has a lot more stuff including zoo, Airport, ski resort, multiple golf courses, multiple colleges, larger population of upper and middle class, more land and property in the suburbs, and 40 minute drive from Lake Michigan which has the more beautiful lakshore.

I have lived in MI for 35 years. And I love it to each their own.

I am a single 28 year old young professional looking for a hip place to live with a lot going on, I love music/art, I'm liberal, definitely a hippie type. I love nature and grew up going to Lake Erie which is a huge pull to GR with proximity to the lake. I've been to A2 numerous times and love it but am worried about being surrounded only by college kids; on the contrary I've been to GR and LOVED Eastown but I'm nervous GR may be too conservative and family oriented. Any thoughts or perspective on this would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks again man.

Originally from Kalamazoo and moved near Novi a year and a half ago. My wife and I love this side of the state but the traffic is horrible. Commerce, Novi and the surrounding area traffic sucks but I still like it here. Crazy when you drive through rich and poor neighborhoods and see the wealth gap. It’s astounding here

Detroit downtown is so walkable. Walking from the to midtown you can see so much. You have three major sport stadiums minutes away. Major entertainment theaters within minutes away. The midtown area is great. You all the museums and Wayne state university with Walking distance.

Big pilot job opportunity in Detroit too if you wanna fly for Delta.

After spending the last 3 decades in Seattle and the Puget Sound area in Washington, we may be returning back to MI, out towards Novi/Brighton because real estate prices are so much more affordable and the quality of life is overall better in our view. Very helpful video. Thanks for posting.

I live in Shelby my wife and I we don't have a downtown are we have rochester 5 minuts away. We have beautiful homes out her cider miles bike paths hiking trails good school and. We wanted to be as from from 8 mile. Washington township is next door with beautiful homes and mansion. Not that many people car about a downtown area. It's not like we have to drive that far to shopping even to somerset mall. Why are to so partial to the west side. Go down rochester in Troy those apartments are all low income.

I live in downtown Detroit for 16 years now I love it, however, that $75,000 figure is enormously misleading. That’s a median price when you take into consideration all the horrible neighborhoods of which there are many , some of them , you can buy homes for 20 and 30,000 which brings this medium price down, , but frankly no one would want to live there, in the nicer areas of Detroit. It’s not cheap by any means , the downtown / Midtown are expensive by Detroit standards but very nice . Condos in Brush Park go for anywhere from half 1,000,000 to 1,000,000, just looked at a townhouse in Corktown , from 859 to 1, million, I couldn’t believe it.!! My own Lafayette Park area averages about 400 to 500,000. But compared to other cities on the coast I guess that’s still cheap. The suburbs of Detroit, which go on forever Have tons of different price points some unbelievably expensive, some more reasonable. Do your homework, but it’s a wonderful metropolitan area to live in.
