Ski-Doo Helium 30 Jacket and High Pant Review
I think this is the most useful maneuver for beginners to learn and become proficient at. I learned this from Aaron Roesler at a clinic at Mount Baker a few years ago as a total novice. Practicing the downhill u-turn until it became natural helped me gain confidence and proceed to learning other mountain riding skills.
Such little snow this year, I'm just watching how to vida🥺
Need some new content professor. Not all of us ride Tasmanian Devil style, like Kesterke! I appreciate your smooth, conserving energy approach. I learned early on, to start using slope gravity, and tree wells to get on edge, whenever possible. When I saw you teaching use downhill side gravity to do the same, I knew I found the right teacher.
Thank you for noticing...and you are right, I need some fresh content. We will get started on something this year, I hope!
Oh and have 4-6 buddies help you
I can't get my break pistons to open. Any tips?
Thanks for all the videos!
Hey Bret, this video gives me hope! I just bought a new to me 2021 Exp SE 900 ACE Turbo and am looking for tips on doing just the basic maintenance. I've seen and read so many very complicated videos. I just want to ask, will my sled be the same process as you show here? Thanks.
Yes...should be the very same. Could be some small differences. But all G4 hood removal should be basically the same.
Nice video ,good job thanks
You should do a video on breaking in a new etec motor
I did mine through the track window and it was NOT fun.
Every dealerships own products are the best. We all know that 😂
My riding buddies and I do this mod on all of our sleds along with a lower riser. What a game changer.
I love your channel ❤
This is awesome 🎉
What about the very loud « grinding » noise you get from the brake ? My skidoo had not even 500km and I had to replace it ??
Shows nothing. The problem is only one side will ever come out. Once it is loose on one side the other side won’t loosen to apply lubricant. Tried loosening and tightening the easy side multiple times. Difficult side will never break free. Has to be a trick that actually works.
you have to pull both bolts from one side, lay the sled on its side with the two opposite bolts upward, then pull the bottom of the skid out of the tunnel enough to offset the skid until you can get a plier on the through shaft. Now the bolt can be removed while you hold the shaft. But it has to be the shaft and not outer axle. Has to be offset about an inch and a half to be able to find the through shaft.
Recently I sent you a question about transmission oil???? Wrong question: I should have referred to the gear box (fwd, neutral, reverse on my Scandic) and the chain case - do they share the same oil?
Yes same oil sump. I think it requires a higher grade synthetic oil than just a regular chain case.
@Ride Rasmussen Style eventually a dealer confirmed exactly the same thing, the gear box needs syndromes transmission oil and that exceeds the chain case oil specs... not recommended to go the other way and use chain case oil... for the scandic... thx for getting back to me
That should be syncromesh transmission oil lol
A maintenance question: is the chain case oil also the oil used in the transmission ie are there two oils to change or just one? My unit is 2023 Scandic 900 ACE LE non turbo
Hi Bret, I have a Scandic with 154 x 24 track calling for 1.77 inch deflection with 16 lb at deflection point after a 10 to 15 min ride to warm up track...hard to do in April....Is there a rule of thumb for a cold track? since the machine is up on a stand in my garage at the moment...
Just spin the track up on the stand for a few minutes. That's all you need to do. I like to run the track as loose as I can without it slipping on the drivers. Because spring snow has more traction in it, we typically have to run a bit more tension. If it slips just tighten it a bit more.
Thanks Bret! Love the color combo on that sled!
Please put more detail into the steps you used to remove the suspension. Once it is out, taking the sliders off is a no brainer. Getting the suspension out is alway the hard part.
Please do a video on how to rem9ve a Gen4 airbox please
What a pain
Your videos have helped me as a rider tremendously. Confidence is key and a mishap resulting in injury can sure undermine confidence. I have been progressing as a rider(started later in life), but had a mishap just a week ago jumping a creek that resulted in a minor injury. My last two rides since then have been really difficult as now I’m dealing with anxiety I did not have before. As a slightly built middle aged female I really have to depend on my sled rather than my own strength. This comes with so much practice! Hoping to regain some of that confidence through the rest of the season. Also planning on signing up for your women’s clinic for next year, 2024, as soon as that schedule is posted. 😊
The more miles you put on the more confidence you will build. Hope to see you in a women's class. It will be a great opportunity to build a stronger skill set and up your game.
On a 2018 summit sp do you need a different steering post? Is it a good idea if I am a beginner?
You would not need to change the steering post. Just get the forward relocate and you'll be set. It's a huge difference. You will appreciate it!
I have a lynx commander and find it real hard to get on and maintain on edge. Sidehilling is therefore really hard. Is it just training to get better? Is the commandr capable of riding on edge? Is there any modifications I can do (or need to do) to get the snowmobile handle the sidehills easier?
The key to easier carving and balance while on edge is the front arm of the suspension. A long limiter strap will always make it easier to balance on edge, therefore carving will become easier.
@@RideRasmussenStyle thanks! I will try to find and adjust this to see if I will handle the commander more easily. How is the commander to ride when there is sidehills and such? I use it for farming but I also want to drive more for fun to get better to drive.
I have a set of wires with pig tails attached to my glove compartment. Any idea what these are?
G4? I don't remember any pig tails on these?
Hello sir and thank you for the wealth of experience that you are sharing it is greatly appreciated . I am 55 and have only been sledding trail for 5 years now and loving every moment I get . This is my first brand new machine 23 renegade xrs 900 r and I have very little idea what is involved for the initial ride and break in period. As good as the sales man was with me , it still felt like I was rushed out the door without any knowledge of what is expected for a first time owner , however watching you over and yes over again ( still ) I can say with confidence that I now know how and what to look for . Thank you very much for your time : ) .
Awesome video. Was getting ready to take the whole front apart! Thanks
Great video, I would love it if you would do some close ups on some areas, like the spark plug clips etc. Do the spark plugs no longer need to be indexed?? -- - Also maybe a video with the chain case cover off and show where you are pushing on the chain to feel deflection. I am guessing your pushing on the chain as soon as it leaves the sprocket. I can't imagine feeling deflection there as you don't have much leverage, but that's why I would love to see it and how much movement you get at correct specs. Thanks, Great videos!
I have a squeak coming from the front end with I move side to side. Is there anything that needs greased on the front end?
Just dry bushings in the a arm pivots and sway bar linkage. You could spray in some wd40 to lube it up and take away the squeak. It will come back after the first time you ride it though.
Thanks very helpful, glad I watched video and learned in the shop rather then out on trail
Great riding Bret! Thanks for all the awesome vids!
How’s the bottom end?
Thank you Bret and deep respect for every man from your team!
Hi Bret, hope that you're doing well
Always. Thank you!
How does someone get into the guiding business? I haven’t seen anyone posting ads
What kind of ad are you looking for? If you don't have any experience you should consider some training in outdoor survival skills, navigation, avalanche certification and then get a job with an outfitter.
@@RideRasmussenStyle I have most of that with my Marine Corps background, just need some avalanche training. Any tips on how to find jobs with outfitters? I've looked and was having trouble finding anything in the local area! Thank you for your imput!
Just about to put my sled into storage. What brand of geese did you use for the brake lever pivot? Love the videos. Jake
I use XPS from Ski-Doo. But it's not critical what brand you use, anything to help keep the moisture out will do the trick!! Hoping for a short summer:)
Fs i cant even get my hood back on… the rear clips by the gas tank wont quite reach. Like half inch away… its the air box boot. Seems like it wont sear properly,,,, when i took it off. The boot was still on the hood,,, not on the air box itself
SO... It sounds like you need to move the rubber boot from the hood to the air box where it should go. Make sure the hose clamp is properly loosened. I like to leave the clamp loose enough that I can slide the hood on and off at will without the need to ever loosen or tighten the clamp. I've never tried it, but I suppose it would be fine to permanently remove the hose clamp. Good luck.
@@RideRasmussenStyle hi…. The last two clips by the gas tank… does the hood clips go in the slot’s or under.,, i hope you know what i mean lol
i am "nothing." The only way to avoid getting stuck is to Leave your machine on the trailer......................"Fact"
Just leave the skid in. Use you pipe wrench to remove the sliders. And push the new sliders through the track window. At least 1 hour saved. Why would you struggle pulling the whole suspension out?
I have a Lynx commander and have watched all of the back to skool videos. Should I use the same techniques regarding rider position, counter-steering, edging, sidehilling etc on my lynx commander as these videos show or will my type of snowmobile require a different driving style?
Thanks for asking...the very same techniques apply, however the Commander is much heavier, less agile and takes a lot more rider input than it would take with a normal mountain sled. Have fun with that!!
Generally how often do pads need to be replaced due to mileage?
Unless you have been driving around with the e brake on, they will go 5000 plus miles. Not a high wear item!
Great presentation... just wish someone would smack those kids yelling in background tho
The opposite foot forward is wild. I tried it yesterday while sledding. It was my 4th time ever riding the mountain and 2 time on my alpha i bought this winter WOW. I got that thing going opposite forward i didn't even have to think about counter steering just came natural and i was on like a 45 degree sidehill and didnt even know it. Now to get used to the not as aggresive sidehills doing that and turning downhill
Sounds like you are killing it! Keep up the fun:)
@@RideRasmussenStyle Thanks hoping to get out a couple more times yet before spring takes over
I wish your videos were longer, Brett. Good to see you're still loving the sport!
Loosen the rear axle first. Then loosen the adjusters. Pull one bolt out and if you have a bench grinder with a wire wheel clean the loctite off. Drive it back in then do the same steps with the other bolts till they are clear of locate and your good too go.
Great tip, thanks for the feedback!
Can you make a video on protective gear and what pros and cons some have? Knee pads/ chest protectors, etc thanks!
Great topic.
Good stuff and excellent video. Thank you.
