  • What a time we live in! And I'm not talking about the Coronavirus. I'm talking about the amazing technology and machinery being produced in a stock snowmobile! The new Ski-Doo Summit X with the Rotax E-TEC 850 Turbo is hands down my favorite sled to ride right now! I have been dreaming of a day that the manufacturers would offer a turbo charged sled, straight from the factory. And to offer a two year warranty along with it, makes this a no-brainer! This sled is so buttery smooth all the way through the throttle. To be able to have constant 165 horsepower all the way up to 8,000' is amazing! I get 40+ horse power above and beyond 8,000'. In simple terms, way more power than I had with my stock 850, and that stock sled was already blowing my mind where it could go! I can't say enough good things about this sled. I am so excited to be living in this day and age of snowmobiling! It's all changing and progressing so fast right now, making the sport even more fun than it already was! If you don't believe me, just get out and try one for yourself.

    Absolutely loving mine, you nailed everything that makes it so good. After riding aftermarket kits for years it’s the throttle response I’m loving. Ya, our race gas turbo setups make more power (a lot more), but it’s not even close in the ride-ability and simplicity. Not to mention the lack of tinkering, laptops and of course the fuel. I’ve ridden my race gas sled once after getting this and probably won’t the rest of the year. Probably won’t next year either with the expert on its way. Thanks for sharing...you all stay safe, healthy and in the corona free mountains like us.

      D B Exactly! That’s what a lot of people are overlooking with the 850 turbo. People that get it don’t need an explanation; people that need an explanation won’t get it.

      Icutmetal...Haha!!! You are so right. Rode with a couple of guys like that today matter of fact. It comes down to they are pissed they spent all this money on their sleds and now this “stocker” runs better...it’s not even close off the line (even with the quick spool small compressor guys). But your right they will never it admit it and that’s just how some people are. Yes, I’m fortunate I have several sleds, not everyone has that option I know, but with the money they dump into their pump gas sleds it’s about the same dollar amount. Everyone that rides one that isn’t a jealous asshole says the same things as were saying here. No, they aren’t a full mod race gas sled, but I’ve ridden those my whole life and am enjoying this one more so whatever.

      My na expert feels so slow after getting off of the turbo! And I thought it was such a good sled before... But really the na is a great sled and if you agree don't get on a turbo! You just might change your mind 😉

      Ride Rasmussen Style..That’s exactly what my little brother said to me today. I gave him my 2020 na expert when I bought my turbo and he thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread coming off a 2016xm (which it is), but now after riding my turbo he can’t wait until my new expert gets here so he can have my “first gen” turbo from this year lol.

    So there I was in West Yellowstone MT. Feb 18th riding with this group of guys.. One of them had a Ski-Doo Summit 850 turbo.
    Can I take it for a ride I asked? Sure he said.
    We were at about 7,700 feet and about 23 F out. A bit earlier I had taken my Ski-Doo Summit '18 non turbo 850 (about 125 hp at 7,700 feet) up and down some hills and along a route I had picked out for comparison riding. The 850 turbo (165 hp at 7,700 feet) easy had 15-20+ mph MORE track speed than my ’18 850 on the same hills, route & elevation.
    The engine response was electric in nature!! With a flip of the throttle, power on and now! At that elevation you could hear the turbo most of the time. No lag. Power now and alot! It was so fun to ride! What a fun sled!!

    My face hurt for a week after my weekend demo ride! WOW! Is an understatement, so responsive and still smooth, it’s power is almost deceptive til you crank it up the hill and blow your mind seeing how far you can go.😜I loved every minute now I need to upgrade.

    Mr. Rasmussen Good day there riding. I was able to get one also. This sled is almost exactly my perfect dream sled. Turbo has been flawless, love the 850 Torque. How about asking skidoo to make a front hood with an access cover up front over the pipe so I can cook lunch and dry goggles since our dryer box is gone. This is an add-on I would purchase as soon as it was out. Other than this one over-site Skidoo knocked it out of the park on this one

    Sucks that BRP does not stand behind their product. I have a 2018 Freeride that consumed over 12 belts, clutch overheating, switches, hand warmer, thumb warmer, ice scratches and NOW chain case tensioner bolt. BRP does not want to fix my bolt even though I have a 4 year warranty.
    Your thoughts as a Decent man

    • @RideRasmussenStyle
      @RideRasmussenStyle  Před 4 lety

      How does a chain tensioner bolt fail anyway? How about the switches and hand warmers? Were they covered under warranty? Who is your dealer? And have you consulted a different dealer?

    • @SummitAggregates
      @SummitAggregates Před 4 lety

      Too many questions about this...though I definitely feel the guys pain --- no mention of how many miles --- 12 belts x 750 miles per belt...if you had 3 strong seasons that would be about normal...I just blew a belt on a 16 T3 174...with roughly 550 miles on it...can sure happen!! But alas, I have to also say...BRP has been better than most on things you dont expect and the dealer picks up the tab!! I would say...if you're having a lot of trouble, especially on an 18...get it sold and re-up into a new one...

  • @SummitAggregates
    @SummitAggregates Před 4 lety +1

    Ok...so...It's a small thing, but Detroit made the first turbo two stroke...ALL Turbo Detroits, with "T" in the nomenclature, had a gear driven supercharger and an exhaust driven turbocharger. Now, Skidoo may have the first two cycle with ONLY a turbo...but, Detroit was producing turbo 2 cycles back in the 40s.

    • @RideRasmussenStyle
      @RideRasmussenStyle  Před 4 lety

      Thanks for the clarification. The Detroits were all diesels as far as I know. The Rotax is a gas powered engine and this is what I should have pointed out. Thanks again.

      @@RideRasmussenStyle Bret, realizing I didn't know the history as well as I should...I went looking for OLD OLD OLD history on the Detroit Diesel...it turns out...the company dated back to 1907, then called D.E.W.(Detroit Engine Works) AND D.M.C.S.(Detroit Motor Car Supply)...DEW did produce a 4HP-20HP naturally aspirated gas engine made for both fresh and salt water applications...later...as I'm understanding, 1910, DMCS produced car bodies with the DEW engines --- much later the company evolved into diesel engines...all were produced in Detroit, Michigan...wow...the stuff you learn...Have a great day --- by the way...SNOW IS STILL AWESOME IN COLORADO...course, you have to go up...and Rabbit Ears is still packed, despite the government trying to powergrab --- seems like the greatest form of social distancing --- get all bundled...stay further than six feet, and ride on your own sled all day out in GOD's country!!

    I'm a trail rider mostly around the Tug Hill NY and surrounding areas.....I have many fond memories of Mach 1s and Mach Z's. So I would love to see one or both of these models brought back.
    Had big hopes for the 900 Turbo being used to create a new Mach Z with 200+h.p...Painted Black with Some mean looking graphics... so much for that..lol ...I think putting this turbo 850 in a 129 or 137" (prob. 137").. track..and turn up the boost. Mach 1 185hp...Mach Z 200+hp???..maybe use a dual rate spring to allow for lower ride hieght and better cornering...and to differentiate from Mxz line ..Any one else like to see a ride package like this?

    • @RideRasmussenStyle
      @RideRasmussenStyle  Před 4 lety +1

      Actually it doesn't have a laid down post like the early Ski Doo's did. It's more vertical and is more ergonomically correct than the straight vertical posts. After spending a day on it you will really appreciate how it feels. Also I have a forward post kit that will stand it up a few more degrees if you prefer.

    In my humble opinion, you should be advising the right sled for everyone...young, old, small or large is a 175 with the 3" paddles...but...like you...I remember the old days...when you spent half the day working on the damned things, and the rest of the day getting stuck...not enough track was an understatement --- but we had no idea, by today's standards, what "enough" track meant!

    • @RideRasmussenStyle
      @RideRasmussenStyle  Před 3 lety

      I agree, the 175 is a bit of over kill. And it depends on what you want to do with the sled. My goal would be to have fun with it! And if you not having fun you to serious about it!

    • @RideRasmussenStyle
      @RideRasmussenStyle  Před 4 lety +5

      We have to be very careful with aftermarket silencers to achieve the correct back-pressure needed for the application. Most will be noisy and rob power!! I am currently testing a Diamond S that has been designed and developed for this package. Early results are encouraging. A nice deep tone, and only a few decibels louder than stock. With 9 pounds weight savings!!

    Just a question if anybody has an answer my brother's girl weighs 120 maybe 130 she's ridden off and on her whole life. Just wondering she doesn't want to buy an 850 she thinks it's too big and too heavy so she's thinking maybe a 600. I'm just wondering if the 600s gonna have enough power to go sledding where she wants to go, is the 850 is something she should be looking at a little more than the 600 she used to ride M7 162 but that's too heavy

    • @RideRasmussenStyle
      @RideRasmussenStyle  Před 3 lety

      Short answer. The 600 will suit her just fine. I would recommend a165 because they are more forgiving. Problem is they don't make 165's in a 600! She could get a 154 and long track it making it an expert edition. This would be a great sleep. Alternatively an 850 would be very manageable for her she doesn't have to use ALL the power all the time! The throttle response can be a little intimidating however... Might take a little getting used to. Good sledding!

      I recommend you try the one it comes with first. You can extend it later if it just doesn't work. I always say that the steeper and more technical the terrain the lower bars you need to maintain control. But more importantly because of your height, you certainly need a part forward block moving the post forward 2 inches locating you forward where you will have more control.
