    hello sir/maam, may I ask? I'm currently casting a membrane from cellulose acetate and NMP solvent, but I'm having a problem. After I cast it and then put it in a coagulation bath, my membrane sticks to the glass plate. Is there a solution that I can do to prevent the membrane from sticking to the glass plate?

      You can consider using a larger coagulation bath. This might be helpful to solve your problem.

      @shubhamketansharma2314 .Thank you for your interest. Actually, the feed solution is significantly less conductive than the draw solution. The highly saline draw solution creates the osmotic pressure difference which induces water to flow from the feed solution through the membrane. If the osmotic pressure of feed is higher than the draw solution, feed is not able to be drawn to draw side.

      Hi @Loyd, it would not stick to acrylic surface. This is because the bottom (adhering to acrylic plate) of TFC membrane is made of non-woven fabric and this material will not have reaction with acrylic.

    It would be better to consider a protective layer on the surface of the glue (at the end of the fibers) to ensure that the surface of the fibers does not react with the glue, and it can also prevent the end port of fibers get damaged when it vibrates during operation.

I am new to the field of membrane production and have some questions, and it would be nice to hear your comment on them: 1) How do you control the thickness of the different layers since you pour the monomers in excess on the surface. Is the thickness just correlated to the reaction time? 2) Do you use these TFC membranes for (RO) water filtration applications? Thank you again for sharing your knowledge, highly appreciated!

      The IP technique is used to create the polyamide layer only. Other layers such as the susbtrate layer uses other fabrication methods such as casting. In IP, various factors (such as reaction time, concentration of monomer solution used, post-treatment procedures and susbtrate properties) are among the few that could affect the resultant polyamide physicochemical properties (i.e. its thickness, roughness, crosslinking %, etc). Of course, these are not the only factors involved as there is a WIDE range of parameters that could be controlled. TFC is mainly used in nanofiltration and RO due to its denser layers. Hope this helps and have fun researching/fabricating membranes !! 😁😁
