From Foundation to Summit: A Guide to Ngondro and the Dzogchen Path
Teachings based on Thinley Norbu Rinpoche's A Cascading Waterfall of Nectar. In this book you will find essential instructions on the Vajrayana path to ultimate enlightenment, from the foundational contemplations about the nature of reality to the ultimate realizations of the wisdom of Dzogchen.
In the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, before one can receive empowerments and pointing-out instructions from a dharma master, one must first open and prepare the mind by engaging in the foundational practices (ngöndro). This consists of completing a specified number of repetitions of the rituals of taking refuge, arousing the mind of awakening (bodhichitta), mandala offering, Vajrasattva purification, and Guru Yoga.
In this book, Orgyen Chowang Rinpoche brilliantly explains how to engage in the foundational practice according to the New Treasures of the Dudjom tradition, the Dudjom Tersar. And from the outset, Orgyen Chowang introduces the pristine teachings of Dzogchen, the pinnacle of the Nyingma path, to provide the context that informs every stage of the path to awakening.
This book is based on a series of oral teachings on Thinley Norbu’s text A Cascading Waterfall of Nectar, itself a teaching on the Dudjom Tersar, that Orgyen Chowang gave to Western students over a three-month period in 1997. He explains in a very fresh, uncomplicated way such topics as receiving the blessings from the lama, the nature of awakening, the role of pointing-out instructions, tranquility and insight meditation, the three bodies of enlightenment, and the Dzogchen practices of trekchöd (cutting through) and thögal (passing over). This book will be of immense benefit to those engaged in the Dudjom Tersar ngöndro, those who have already finished their ngöndro accumulations, and those engaged in the foundational practice from other Nyingma lineages.

Jewish tradition and way of life are clear: only wives or close female relatives could have been present at these events. At certain points of the soul's evolution for a full-fledged realisation, a sacred, ie an egoless union between husband and wife is necessary. This is the original and perennial teaching in all gnostic traditions universally. When the two polarities are out of balance, corruption occurs and sexuality is demonised, repressed or swings to the other extreme...sexuality becomes profane, and vulgar and loses its sacred purpose to awaken and through true love to bring awakened souls into the world. This is the forgotten purpose of Christianity and of all 'religions'. The history of Christianity seems to be a very telling untold story of unspeakable suffering, ignorance and cruelty due to the misuse and misunderstanding of human sexuality and its true purpose.

Goes a long way across axes of both time and space. Even backwards in time, for the past is not as fixed as we think it is. Or perhaps I should say, the past is exactly as fixed as we think it is. Whole swaths of our lives and histories are subject to reframing under new paradigms, revealing new potentialities in what we thought was "water under the bridge."

But most raindrops, when they get near the ocean, they stop and they say: ‘Oh no!’, and they try to go back to the cloud. This is what creates hailstorms. And they enter hail-realms of inability to commit to unite with the ocean. And they would rather tell stories about how close they got to that ocean but remain in some cloud of unknowing that confuses itself with the Real. But a time comes when the Ocean of Consciousness can no longer be resisted, because the gravity of the hailstone has accumulated too much suffering, too much frozenness in its past traumas, too much fear, too much illusory entity-hood, too much history, too much sorrow, too much karma to bear. But no matter how large the hailstone or how small, or how liquefied the drop, all dissolve the same, all are one, there is no difference. No matter what happened in that biographical journey of the illusory ego, all are the same, one, infinite ocean of presence, of intelligence, of bliss. And the ocean is an infinite ocean of laughter, of joy, at the realization of the illusion. And there is no mind left that would wish for anything other than this eternal liberation. And because all these raindrops and hailstones have emerged from the same ocean in the first place they carry that ocean within, they have never been anything BUT that ocean. We are always that which we are seeking, or we are fleeing from, or we are thinking about committing to. But all of those illusory attitudes toward the Real, all take place ignorantly WITHIN the Real because there is nothing BUT the Real. The ocean may extend itself as fog, as clouds, as storms, as every possible permutation of form and energy and activity; it may even take the apparent form of solid ground. But all of it ultimately is that same oceanic awareness, that same infinite, formless, intelligent, blissful Self, regardless of whatever conditions arise within its plane of awareness. All that arises, all that disappears, constitute the same light, the same mind-nature, the same infinite intelligence. And there is no change, there is no multiplicity, there are no persons, bodies, events, only the immutable Presence that contains all, but is untouched, unaffected, undisturbed. And from that perspective of the ocean we recognize that even the traumatic experiences are gifts. They are even the greatest gifts, for they show us our own power of self-overcoming, our power of awakening, illumination, self-liberation, the ecstasy of that eternal instant when you realize that YOU are THAT. And this internal instant is always now...

Buddha's Dhammapada is the core teaching without living an actual Buddhist lifestyle. - Verse 1. "All that we are is the result of what we have thought: It is founded on our thoughts, it is made up of our thoughts. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him, as the wheel follows the foot of the ox that draws the carriage." I am the ox that draws the carriage. That represents me moving along in my life. The evil thought is analogous. We need to know it plays out in the psyche and "evil" is what happened. I remember with emotional pain, and it cycles behind me in life and continues to hurt me. When we get done with it we realize it is the memory and the emotional charge we give it as well as the level of emotion we give it, that actually creates it within us. Then that cycling wheel? That's karma. What we hold continues to return. We must change the emotional charge around the memory to be free of it. We must face this to do it. It is psychology at heart. "All that we are is the result of what we have thought." Peace
