Wow, suprised you payed a visit here to Iowa. Hope you truly enjoyed your stay. You mention the flooding coming. I'm not concerned for where I live personally, though more so regarding displacement of our forrest folk. I corresponded a while back with you about some of my experiences here in Iowa and being known if you will. Floods push them up out of the lowland areas and increase interactions with people as a result.
Oh, I am well aware of how The Bigs get displaced by rivers who over flow.
She is a magnificent river, known here as big muddy and sung about as old man river. Life giving water of the past. I wouldn't eat anything out of it today as she is the main dumping channel for toxic runoff, chemical deposits, and sewage. 😢
LeClaire or Bettendorf area?
i have this trap and bait it with bread like he said. Once you catch one it brings the others in to it. I am going to put grass in from now on.
It's not about putting grass in it it's about putting the nesting material in it if you pull out the nest Play House barrels will immediately start to rebuild their nest with the material that you pull it out with. Play some of that material in that trap. I don't wait until they build a nest I want to get rid of them before they even start
She's a good mama hen ❤
Aawwwww she wants her eggs!
To the good man in the video, Thank YOU, Thank you for caring for these precious birds and saving them from a horrific fate. I just had my first, horrific experience with these. Thank you for getting rid of them 🙏
Very small amount of sevin dust under a nest will prevent these insects from being a problem
smol
That's cool!
Why do you think it died?
No idea. He was over two years old,
I lived there for a long time and I truly don't understand how people front about what a great place it is. I think many are conceited, and like being able to say they live in a big city. And a lot of the white liberals who live there pride themselves in being so diverse, Chicago is the MOST segregated city I've EVER been to, and I've been around. There's good food, I'll give it that. Aside from that I really don't understand what's so great, or even good about Chicago. And when most people are talking about how much they love Chicago, they're talking about the north side. The southern US has its problems, but it's way more integrated than the northern US. I witnessed multiple shootings when I lived there, like right in front of me and one of them a man was murdered. Most people who live there have nothing to say about it. Nobody cares enough to try and stop the violence. It's no place to raise children and the people who think nothing bad could ever happen to them because they're white or middle class, are delusional. Unfortunately I don't think anything will. Get better in Chicago until it gets worse. Most people in that city just go with the flow, the status quo, and rarely think for themselves.
How do you keep predators from eating the babies or eggs?
What kind of predators
Yup, I’m comfortable with your song choice. Pretty much sums it up. Jessie the body captured it in the first Predator movie with, “We’re in a world of hurt.”
Are the eggs lost too then?
Yes. The female probably took another mate and she will lay another clutch probably in a different compartment
😂❤😂❤😂
That was beautiful! I love it when you show fire in your belly 💪
I'm telling you Rodger every time I see that guy stumbling around fumbling around that's the song that goes through my head
I had my first Bigfoot dream last night. Found your video. Thank you! He fell through the ceiling of an office building in my dream.

@@crzrcknot that I know of or was conscious of. I can’t stop thinking about it today! He fell through the ceiling tiles and then acted like he appeared in the wrong place and just walked out the door nonchalantly. It was powerful though.

Circle of life. Something else will eat it, just let it be 🥰
Humans like animals and have sympathy so most normal people would help it rather than let it die.
It’s probably already too late. She thinks you’re mom. But it’s worth a try. And you are very kind.
I love ducks. Got four adults and had two baby ones but they just passed unexpectedly. 😢. Il get more one day, just awesome lil creatures.
Your duties never end Rick 🙂
Baby wood ducks are hard to tear to independence. In the wild they exclusively feed on the larvae of aquatic insects. So you can't rear them like mallards.
She’s going to imprint on you and fall in love. Than your going to have a fur baby for life. ❤😂
“Feather baby”
He went to a wildlife rehab place who had more baby wood ducks
@crzrck good. It's illegal to keep any bird protected under the migratory bird act as pets. Birds you may keep include pigeons, starlings. Birds you may not keep: Canadian geese, wood ducks. This applies to America only, really
@@finch3333 I was a federal license bird Banner for 10 years and more acquainted with the laws than anybody else turn outside of maybe conservation officers. It doesn't stop people from raising these things up I'm more than capable of doing it if I want to do it

Perfect song choice. Like too many of the people I know, Joe Biden is blissfully unaware. Gee, I wonder who will fill his gumshoes?
Pink Floyd... My uncle had Parkinson's disease. From med time around 9am until 2ish he wasn't too bad, after that it was a bad day. If you ever take the time to rerun some of those events that pedo Joe attends, you can see people rolling their eyes and looking at one another when he passes by. He has turned America into a circus, all other nations are laughing at us!
Have you read where they believe Parkinsons is caused by parasites. Orthopedic shoes on biden
At least they didn't dump on you.
Yeah... that's one thing I wouldn't put up with Lol, the high phosphorus content will destroy paint. I would definitely be thinking of some deterrent options.
That’s a nice one hahaha
I love your videos. Just got into purple martins
I honestly pictured myself cutting a lot more and both wings 😅
The Red-bellied wasn't haven't it 😂
I had a heated debate with my dentist over the difference between glow worms and lightning bugs. He said glow worms were immature lightning bugs, and I told him that glow worms are their own species but similar to the lightning bug. Speaking of which, lightning bugs came early this year and for some reason there are huge ones I've never seen before.
Actually Rodger you're both right. From what I understand there are glow worms that are larval forms of fireflies and there are glow worms which are their own particular species. I know the tropical regions of Southeast Asia have all kinds of species of these soft body beetles
Especially when it comes to human consumables. A $5 bag of family size chips, now has almost the same amount as the smaller grab to go bags! No one can deny that Pedo Joe is responsible for this 😡🤬
Says 1 lb on can. Several things are in their old style containers I guess for brand recognition. Cake mixes, same old box, missing quite a bit from original supposedly make same size cake. Nope layers are smaller in height. Lots of BS trickery out in products today put in old style containers
I've heard some people refer to box turtles as tortoises??
Yeah that's interesting part they really aren't quite tortoises they are actually kind of in between tortoises and turtles. I'll give you an example of this. All tortoises are vegetarians. Box turtles diet is something like 60% invertebrates 40% vegetation. They will take an earthworm over a strawberry any day of the week and they do like strawberries. As far as scientific classification they are definitely in the turtle family versus The Tortoise family. I can understand why people would call him tortoises because they really do not live in water at all. But they have to live near water they require regular soaking and drinking where tortoises don't so much. Most tortoises get their water from the food they eat
Late spring is when we see many box turtles crossing roads in our rural area. We often stop to help them get across. I always wondered if these active turtles are male or female? Is this mating season? Sometimes this road crossing activity happens in the late summer. Your turtle refuge looks fantastic. Thanks for the video.
Females are looking for a place to lay their eggs in late spring. In a lot of turtles prefer the edges of Roads because of the gravel and sand and lack of vegetation. It's perfect for son incubation of eggs
And some of those females may lay a second clutch late summer
That was informative 😊we have box turtles that live in our yard too!
Wow that's a lot of eggs isn't it?
Wood Ducks also egg dump, meaning other females will find the nest box and lay eggs in it and leave . The female that claimed the box will end up incubating not just her eggs but all the interlopers as well
@@crzrck Interesting..
Loach looks interesting
Careful with the fancy guppies. Hopefully you have a trusted source and not just the local big box pet store. They're often carrying parasites, including the dreaded camallanus worms. Those can and will wipe out everything within months. The problem is that once you finally figure out that they're the culprit, it's likely too late. Ask me how I know
Do you have to keep those ponds aerated?
The one in the video with the frogs typically has a waterfall on the other end I have to run the pump in the last 2 years because of the tadpoles. I don't want the tadpoles getting sucked up into the filter system turn everything else has got a waterfall filtration system on it
Guess my comment was offensive 🤷
CZcams remove comments automatically based on specific words so you kind of have to dance around the subject
Looks cool. I've bern feeding jelly to orioles, and they love it. Is there a way to keep purple/red finches out of it, because it seems the finches are eating most of it and grape jelly isn't so cheap anymore...lol
Nope.. the Orioles will slow down eating that as they focus on feeding insects to their young
@crzrck There are still plenty of orioles coming to my jelly tray feeder but often sparrows and finches run off the orioles while they are eating the jelly and it's annoying as I buy the jelly for the orioles and it seems the finches and sparrows eat most of it.. I just wondered if there was a way to limit the jelly to only orioles, but I didn't think so.
@@jerrieh1605 I have a few finches who come. My problem is usually one Robin and a grackle. The finches don't drive the Orioles away here. Maybe you need a feeder more like mine
@crzrck thank you. I have a nectar feeder but not one like yours. Thanks so much for the info. Much appreciated.
I had a nest with five eggs … within five days Asian Sparrows destroyed all five eggs and attempted to take over the nest. I took the birdhouse down, I had no choice. I am heartbroken.
I control house sparrows year round so that won't happen
Do most birds lay 1 batch per season?
Blur birds are like Robin's. If they find a nest box early enough and there is plenty of food they will have 3 broods per season
House sparrows are my problem ):
How sparrows are easy to deal with I got a lot of videos on how to control them. If you don't have the ability to dispatch them I would suggest to get out of the Purple Martin business. The reason you modify Martin houses for starlings is because you increase the compartment size to greater than a 6 inch by 6 inch
What a neat hobby. Do you sell your honey? How many hives do you have going this year? Is the garage hive still active? You are always doing very interesting stuff. Thanks for the video.
Yeah we sell the honey are the garage Hive is still there but there's no Bees in it. I save it for a last resort. I came out of winter with two hives live out of six. I'm up to seven as of writing this now
Your Bluebird feeder is brilliant and so is your nestbox..easy to access! I feed these bluebirds on the chair with a back hiding the tray from other birds right beside their nestbox on my patio. I have a sparrow spooker attached to the post but so far I have not seen any sparrows here. I live 1 hour inland near the West Coast California. Common nearby are many songbirds., scrub jays, robins, mocking birds, cow birds, black Phoebe's
So you are dealing with the Western Bluebird where are the mountain bluebird. They have a different Nest box size requirement than the Eastern subspecies
@@crzrck Yes I notice about 3 families a day on my walk. Right the Western Nestbox hole is 1 9/16" diameter. There are many communities of Western Bluebirders in SoCal with organized Bluebird conservation activist volunteers. That's likely why I haven't seen any European hous sparrows. The Mountain Bluebirds are found here in the Sierras mountains.
