    Another solid video. I try to form my fighting style not so much by copying someone who has a style that i like, but moreso by copying someone who has similar, natural, physical tools that Allah has givem to me. For example: I'm 5'8", 155lbs. In no stretch of the imagination do I have the build to fight like Jon Jones. Furthermore, I just don't have the power to be a KO artist. So my style ends up being more of a wrestling based, top--control, GNP style on the ground and more of a dirty boxing style on the feet. So I look to Randy Couture.

    ABSOLUTELY agree with this. Every fighter can learn to punch a little harder. . Butvyou will NEVER turn Michael Nunn into John "The Beast" Mugabi. It's just that simple. Same with the chin: you can do things to help you absorb punches (like neck exercises). But you will never turn Tommy Hearns's chin into Hagler's chin.

    Watch Gary Tonon, and when the Ruotolos brothers start fighting, they are gonna be awesome. WHen your BJJ is the best in the world, I think that is one of the best bases, because you have a significant adavantage, you arent afraid of getting taken down, you can throw caution to the wind and let yourself get taken down. BJJ has had so many really good fighters in MMA history, Noguera, Maia, Jacare Souza, Aoki, Werdum,BJ penn. And guys who arent the best fighters use BJJ Rodolfa Viera, and Gary Tonon is pretty dominant in One, Brian Ortega, is pretty elite. Tom Aspinalli combines striking with really good BJJ. Every discipline is important.

    • @TheUmmahFightCamp
      @TheUmmahFightCamp Před 5 dny

      @gsp3428: Virtually none of the BJJ guys you mentioned are top 10! That tells you how desperate BJJ people are. Wrestling: DC, Jon Jones, DJ, Matt Hughes, YES, GSP, wrestling out shines BJJ 10 to 1 in great fighters. And please dont talk about the Routolos brothers lol! Man stop it please! You have NO IDEA what they are going to do when they are bloody in the cage! They will get beat up as soon as dana matches them well. (That is if they even have the heart to come to the UFC)

  • @betweenbrothers6458

    Every Martial Art has a purpose. Cross training will always be best.

  • @thepierianspring2353

    Very good. Towards your point(s) just look at the Gordon Ryan v. Bo Nickal match, 230 pounds of steroided beef vs 180 pound wrestler with no submission training. This exhibition may been worse than the Schultz/Hickson matchup. In my mind BJJ has become unwatchable with the self-takedowns and butt scooting. Striking and wrestling is where it's at.

    Jujitsu is fine if you are the one that knows it, against an unskilled opponent. The last thing you want is to be on your back in the street. Just asking to get your brains bashed in by their mates.

  • @eliking3333
    @eliking3333 Před 5 dny

    Brazilian Jujitsu is not real Jujitsu, it is incomplete Judo. The ground techniques that were designed to be used when you and your opponent hit the ground from a sacrifice throw, or if you both fall. Judo itself is a sport that has combat applications, and they created the sport of Brazilian Jujitsu from that so it is watered down. It still has its value if you know how to incorporate it with other systems, but by itself it is not enough. The best way to know if a system is useful is to look at what law enforcement is using , or the military. People who have to use these techniques at times in real situations.

    Gordon Ryan still has to sign up for his first actual sanctioned fight. Something is telling me he would not sign up for a real life one, even with a 60 years old 190 pounder like you. Most likely that his steroid use is the only risky behaviour GR ever indulges in.

      @alope4217: LOL! "go talk that stuff at a jiu jitsu academy"? That is not really scary! LOL. Getting hugged until you say uncle does not scare people! Getting PUNCHED, KICKED, ELBOWED, OR HEAD BUTTED does!

    • @alope4217
      @alope4217 Před 5 dny

      I respect you and I agree with a lot of your arguments/perspectives. In a lot of cases, Jiu jitsu has become a “sport” that has developed techniques that would leave you open to strikes and it may not be a good base for mma. But… and I mean no disrespect, when someone calls it “hugging” and labels Jiu Jitsu practitioners as a bunch of “soy-boys” they either haven’t rolled at all, or only trained with low-level dudes.

      @cobyskrilla119: LOL! Dude, to be honest, my peers are white combative teachers from the UK, NOT black or white self defense teachers from America. My issue is with AMERICAN BJJ. And yes, most are white here who claim it is the greatest martial art ever for the streets.

  • @MrSFblack
    @MrSFblack Před 6 dny

    The mystique of BJJ started to dim once more fighters started training their grappling more extensively and learning how to defend themselves from it. The Gracies had success in the sport of MMA at a time when most fighters had no understanding of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. But once fighters started incorporating jiu-jitsu training and gaining knowledge of it, it lost it's luster. Sakuraba, a wrestler, beating 4 of the Gracies including Royce serves as a shining example of this.
