That’s a great video. I bought an F3 two years ago but I’m just starting to use it now. Focusing is a bit difficult, as the split image in the centre isn’t very visible, especially when focusing on horizontal lines. Would you have any suggestions?
Horizontal lines are hard with a horizontal split prism. What I normally do is hold the camera in portrait orientation or around 45º, that way the split prism isn't parallel with the lines. Way easier to focus that way. You can also use the microprism circle around the outside of the split prism! Hope that helps! - Connor
Great video thank you man. I just have one question- On my battery check, when i switch to C for the check it stays on C. Doesn’t automatically go back to ‘Off’ and the light meter needle stays in the bottom red area. I barely noticed this after shooting my first roll. Is it still possible to shoot like this or do i need the light meter needle? I appreciate any help, thank you !
You can shoot without the light meter! Assuming your camera is working properly (and it is worth getting it checked somehow, especially if the meter isn't working) then the shutter should still work normally even without a battery installed. Based on your experience, it sounds like the meter isn't really getting power anyways. Hard to tell from afar, though. Thanks for watching! - Connor
A unique classic.
7:20 then what’s the “B” of Bulb for??????
Hi! There's no B on the flash sync port, only X and FP. X mode is used for all electronic flashes and most disposable flash bulbs, while FP is only used for FP type disposable flash bulbs. These are not used today so X mode is what you want to use. (-: The B you're seeing in that shot is part of the shutter speed dial, which is around the lens mount, not the flash settings. Hope that helps! - Connor
@@Kamerastore Hello sorry I don't want to sound rude, but there is a B before the 1 ON the shutter velocities
@@Kamerastore I am just pointing that, what you mention in the 7:20 about taking a picture with the window up you mean to use it like you would use BULB
@@ugai_bro Oh, sorry I misunderstood. The answer is no, though. You can use the mirror lock-up with any shutter speed, not just bulb. It's useful with many different speeds and in many different situations where reducing camera shake is beneficial. You do not have to use bulb mode when the mirror is locked up. Thanks! - Connor
If Pentax had the time and money to make a new camera they should have made a proper one. Interchangeable lenses a shutter speed dial. Full 35mm frame
Perfect video to watch if you’re a beginner or just want to know everything about how this camera works
Glad to hear it. Thanks for watching! (-: - Connor
What will a young person (teen years to early 20’s) will need to buy (as ecosystem) to develop, print and digitalize the film? How much more will they need to spend?
Aside from the camera, you'd need a roll of 35mm film (between 10 and 25 Euros per roll depending on the film) and then developing/processing/digitizing as you say. Most film labs are capable of doing all of this for you for around 15-25 Euros per roll, or around 20-35 cents per photo with this half-frame camera. If someone takes 2 months to get through each roll (it can easily take longer than that if you aren't shooting much) then it'll be between 150 and 300 Euros per year for film, processing, and scanning. For people who shoot a lot, there are more options. Buying film in bulk and spooling it yourself can drastically reduce your per-roll costs. It's also possible to get all the chemistry and develop the film at home for much cheaper. It's also possible to scan at home with a flatbed scanner or a camera-based system like our Valoi system. It's not a cheap hobby but it's doable, especially with a half-frame camera like this. Thanks for asking! - Connor
@@Kamerastore I work the positives myself. Knowing that no one can preach on his home. A new young photographer that might aim for this camera to post on social media will need additional money to get all the essentials to process the positives, develop the negative, paper, the knowledge, and if want to convert them in digital a scanner, software to post process, if wants to go to digital printer a printer and ink. Here in Puerto Rico there very few film processing places May three or four, that’s why I work my positives. Now I have something to back me up because this generation thinks everything should be a breeze. Even after seeing my studio. Hopefully my daughter teach her well! Thanks for the prompt response! 🫡
Saya punya kamera canon f-1n . Mau di jual
oh nice I have an S2 with 50 1.4. Such a nice camera.
wow that's so interesting
If you try to use in low-light with the flash it's virtually unusable. The flash-ready light is so bright you can't see anything in the viewfinder so returned mine as I do a lot of low-light photography. Also struggled t see the frame lines in certain lighting conditions. Pentax definitely need to look at the brightness of the LEDs next to the viewfinder as this has not been an issue with some of my previous similar cameras.
It has a stepless shutter. It does tell you what the shutter speed is. When 125 and 250 are flashing it's telling you the shutter is in between those two numbers. You can chioose whichever one of the numbers you want as your exposure you gently turn the ring watching the lights. Us old guys know how to do these things.Stepless shutter has so many advantages. Was more desirable to have. Now people don't want to think. Point and shoot. Sad.
Hey! We were referring to the actual shutter speed dial, not the in-finder LED display. The camera does not tell you what shutter speed you have selected on the physical dial, only what shutter speed it would recommend. This was improved on the later X-500, where both the selected and recommended shutter speeds are shown in the viewfinder. Thanks for watching! - Connor
Are you guys able to repair FM2 light meters?
Yes, but unfortunately we don't accept customer repairs. Sorry about that! - Connor
I thought my original Canon F1 was peak mechanical only engineering - now I need a canon rangefinder
Isn’t this like a $3k lens on a $100 camera? 😂
No way! You can get a Zorki for way less than 100$! - Connor
All completely wrong! This is one and ONLY right procedure:czcams.com/video/Fcy86A-wj-o/video.html
A 500$ + joke. My bet is that they are unable to make usable focal-plane shutters, except horizontal fabric rubbish, so as for new stuff you'll been stuck with this kind of garbage until film production stops for good.
I have used in the past as a assistant photographer the Hasselblad 500cm and the SWC with its fixed superwide lens that you had to use a tape measure for focusing. I have also used the RB67 but fancied the Fuji GX 6×8 camera and this to had a revolving back. I liked using occasionally fixed lens TLR cameras like Rolliflex and Yashica But my favourite camera I actually owned was the Bronica S2a with a rare 100mm f2.4 made by Carl Zeiss in Jena I also got a photo used from this camera for a book cover. A 30 year old camera at the time the picture was published. I also liked the idea of being able to use a tilt shift bellows instead of the cameras helicoid. Always fancied trying out the Mamiya Universal or 23 with it 6×9 format. Very cheap well made camera!
The olimpus is the odd one out with the shutter speeds around the lens throat. The good thing about this, is that you dont need to take your hand off the lens area to change shutter speed. Similar to the Hasselblad medium format cameras. What really made the Nikon F2 popular was it's use in the Vietnam War showing off it's ruggedness and taking those images in extreme circumstances! My dad had the F2 and I had the FE Great channel!
It's like 90% of viewers dont watch the video. It's the top 10 search Pentax cameras (on their site I assume), not their favourite Pentax cameras.
I thought this camera is ugly, but the details make it beautifull ☺️
What camera is that & do you recommend it? If so, what are your fave film stocks to shoot on it?
The f6 deserves a better 50 than that.
What lens is this? It looks like its for the M bodies, yet its LTM
Exactly that! It's a limited-run M39 version of the 35mm f2 Summicron ASPH. They're pretty uncommon!! - Connor
I will give it 6 months to Pentax realize the huge mistake of making this toy camera.
They've sold out at almost every major retailer and have had to open up extra levels of preorders. (-: The future looks bright for Pentax's film camera division! - Connor
Hasselblad 500cm that what I shoot very dependable. I’ve scuba dived with my hassy
Why does yours have a way smoother sound than mine? Mine makes like a winding noise. Something similar to what you would hear on like a wind toy
It could be the notorious "Canon Cough". This often sounds like a wheezing sound when the shutter is fired and means the camera has not been properly maintained. Just like a car or any other piece of technology from 50 years ago, cameras require regular maintenance to continue working normally. Ours sounds normal because we service all the AE-1 and AE-1 Programs that we sell. (-: - Connor
Lovely peace of art. The only thing I don't appreciate it lacks the ability to focus. You have to guess the distance
You zone focus
Would love to see a top 10 value for money point and shoot recommendation.
I totally agree with you. There's not a word about the picture quality in this review and according to other ones (very few) I guess this camera is worth the money. And what if a beginner, with is new and lonely camera, really fell in love with photography and wanted to print ? Should he buy something else and pay again ? Why would people be stuck in one category ? But let's keep calm. I this channel is mainly market oriented and thinks this way. This said, I think they miss a large range of potential consumers who aren'y only waiting for the next "pro" camera that they "deserve".
This isn't a review! We have a full review on our channel where we specifically show scans and zoom in to discuss image quality. I'd recommend watching that. (-: Thanks for watching. - Connor
You will def need NDs. I was getting overexposures with a 100iso film.
how does Pentax think, that people will finish their pictures? (scan, photolab, ...) what do you think or recommned? thank you
I would say the target audience is most likely bringing their film to a lab for developing and scanning, or perhaps just having the film developed and then scanning at home. We don't have any official statement from them about this (as far as I know) but that's my general feeling. Thanks for watching! - Connor
This was SO helpful, I’ve had my grandfathers OM-1 for years and never knew how to use it so it just collected dust! I can finally use it, hope I get it right lol
Happy to hear! We'll be here if you need any help troubleshooting (-: Thanks for watching! - Connor
😮
I mostly shoot digital but am old enough to have started with film in the 90's. I have a couple of old ish 90's Canon EOS SLRs and I agree about the worry about reliability. Like you say, I feel each day they still work is a blessing and would love to have a new affordable film SLR camera that I didn't have that reliability worry. Hats off to Pentax for making this camera and i keep my fingers crossed that they someday, make a full frame SLR!
I wouldn't be surprised if we got there eventually! Pentax has stated they intend to make more film cameras as long as there is interest and as long as sales are good. Based on early sales of the 17, things are looking good for more film cameras from Pentax! Thanks for watching! - Connor
Shame on you. This is not acceptable. One must be blind to look at film photos nowadays. You want a film look, just apply countless filters to digital processing of RAW data. “ film community” I have not enough words of disapproval for your consumeristic hedonistic approach to global resources. You want all this chemical dirt back? What for? For your wasteful pleasure of getting one good frame per film? Which you will then scan anyway to treat in your PC? Do you know how much unnecessary chemical waste you produce. No? Ask AI. “Film community” you must be out of your minds . Stop consumeristic wastefulness.
How did people function before CZcams tutorials? Much appreciated
You'd probably go to your local camera store and ask! That's what we're doing, just bringing that experience to your screen. (-: Thanks for watching! - Connor
This was very well done.Thank you. I have an early 70s F-1 like this one. And at the other end of the FD system lifecycle, I also have a Canon T90. I'd love to see a guide like this produced for the T90.
I love the T90, that would definitely be a fun episode to do. Thanks for watching! - Connor
There’s another difference on the back of the F1n a slotted window for the film carton end to display the loaded film stock
The shutter + film advance sound of the Olympus AF-1 takes me right back to my childhood as it was my mom’s camera she took everywhere until we got our first digital camera in ‘98. It’s still in a drawer at her house I should borrow it from her

Oh my God I found my x700 in a box when I stored it when I was 17 years old. I have grandchildren now. The most interesting thing are the comments I didn't know that people would even use this camera anymore. It's what got me interested in photography
Plenty of people are still using film cameras or discovering them for the first time. Check out our website, I'm sure you'll find some things that are nostalgic to you! (-: - Connor
I think Pentax really thought through this one. I’ll be buying one.
