Excellent tutorial . Thank you
Hi Greg, recently bought a saz,im a mandolin player for over 30 years so plenty of stringed instrument experience.Like a lot of people commenting i am scouring you tube for any English speaking lessons/tips so this is great. What tuning are you using here?I am currently using Dizeni tuning
Great Greg,so good to see you in action again. Please keep broadening our musical horizons.
i cant not seem to find any videos to show notes on the long neck baglama why
Your voice is not clear...I have to strain my ears to hear what you say..especially when you strum simultaneously..thanks..
I just come back home from Turkey and i bought one saz guitar as a present to my husband who is a custom guitar maker in Bali, İndonesia and to my daughters who love playing guitar❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Did he just say Turkish instrument?😂😂😂😂
Question. In guitars the strings are ALWAYS numbered from high to low pitch. First string is a high E, 6th string is low E. Always. Is that really different, talking about a saz? Sure?
Hi Greg, What gauge strings have you used for this tuning, thanks Liam
Thanks for the tutorials. Could you zoom in more on your fingering?
Great tutorial and very informative...sounds delicious esp. with the low D and your playing is mellifluous
saz kurdish❤🇹🇯🎼🎶🎵🥰
Cool video, but usually u dont play full accords u just pull the strings (top, middle, bottom)whenever u use them, the pulling of all is mostly at ends of songs or columns
david gilmour !!!!!
Dearth of the Earth, but WHERE can I (we) get some reasonably easy music that would go well on Cittern or mandocello. Better yet...songs!?
Beautiful ❤
I Beg for More!!
I think you are the only person who would understand: I want to do a variant of Travis picking on my modified CGDAE instrument. Suggested patterns?
interesting but tuning is wrong. Check out Holborne's cittern School for authentic renaissance cittern tunings. ignoring which key you're tuning too the down stroke should pluck 3rd, root, 5th, 6th. You've go the right notes but the wrong way up hence why it sounds far more folksy than renaissance style.
Agreed, this confused me as well. I mean, unless he is using a tuning from a source we don't know. I hope he will comment to clarify.
MORE!!! Please
2:35 in this part you are playing it like a Greek tune. If it was with Tzouras or bouzouki, it would sound completely the same.
This is great! Does anyone know of a resource an English speaker could use to learn some traditional songs?
great video thank u
So talented.
What's is the easiest tune for beginners
Just a little correction, not zaz but Saz
This instrument is actually Kurdish. The Kurds call it Saz. S as in Saw. The Turks call it Baglama or something.
Also, any good 12 string can be strung up and retuned to be cittern like - even better I think, with the big box.
Hey Greg...how about a tutorial for CGDAE tuning?
Bravo ! you made this great song sound good and I know it is not easy to do a cover of Neil. BTW; I also have a 1968 H1265
what string guages for this tuning if my scale length is same as yours ?
When do people understand that baglama (short neck) is different from the long neck (bozuk/düzen. Long neck was invented a while ago with 23 curtains, later the Kurds invented the baglama (short neck) 19 curtains to simplefy the playing style so you didnt have to move your hand up and down. Long neck has been around for centuries and short neck only a couple hundred years.
Thnx Greg, I just recieved this wanderful instrument as a gift from my sister, travelling Turkey and now I know how to tune it. I am a mandolin, 5 string banjo and guitar player, so I hope to learn it quiet soon. Ciao
I am a messianic Jew and I heard a gentleman who plays for Joshua Aaron play this instrument. I would love to learn to play this instrument playing psalms. Do you have anything in print. Here is the instrument
Hi. what do you actually tune each of 3 strings. ie, lowest strings are tuned to octave. Middle unison same i believe. What about the top 2 strings? Octave or same. İ mostly hear them in octaves
here there's a good answer I think - czcams.com/video/L67LiQ8QVEc/video.html
Lovely playing. Greg, is that a long or a short neck?
Greg, do you ever tune the high string to C# instead of D? gives a true Amaj for the bottom 4 courses. I'm sure there a many good tunings. I'm just looking to get the same instrument you have here.
Hi Greg...can I contact you watsap...I need help getting one ..I dunno what and where ?
Thanks! I love this sound. Greetings from Poland!

Is this the D A E A D tuning? If so, how to easily transpose in order to play common chords for folks songs...G... Em...D...C...Am... etc. Must be a computer program to do this??? Thanks very much for your inspired passionate playing of these beautiful instruments. You might like Planxty Irwin, and other O'Carolyn compositions.
This is awesome Greg. Thanks for the tutorial.
What a beautiful medieval sounding instrument.
